Rogue had just emerged from the shower after a particularly rough solo session in the Danger Room. Gladiator and his Imperial Guard get ya ev'ry time, gal, she thought as she turned her neck from side to side. Entering her room she threw down her towel and put a light green dress on that 'complimented her eyes,' as Remy might tell her, the snake. She smiled at the thought of him.

"Gambit, Prince of t' Thieve's guild,"

As she was brushing her damp hair, cursing her frizzy curls all the while Scott's voice came over her intercom: "Rogue, I need you to come downstairs." That was it. No explanation. He didn't even ask, but that was to be expected from Scott. Ever the leader, always giving orders. Rogue always thought that spending years with Jean would mellow him out a little bit but no suck luck. She walked downstairs and was surprised by everyone's grim demeanor. Scott and Elizabeth were sitting on the couch, quite apparently waiting for her. They looked like they had engaged in full battle.

"left standin' like a fool,"

"Where's the rest of the crew?" Rogue asked. They, along with Remy, Ororo, and Hank had gone on a mission for a disturbance in New York. A new mutant had lost control of her powers and had been causing quite a big mess. None of the other X-Men were been in the house. "Rogue, the rest of the team is coming back to the mansion, but we wanted to tell you in private. The powers belonging to the teenager were kinetic-based. We managed to calm her down, but as we moved in her powers got out of control again. She accidentally struck an oil-filled semi and there was a large explosion."

"pain in his chest..."

"Remy," Rogue said, almost inaudibly. "Mah Gawd, is he ok?" They wouldn't meet her eyes. "Is he dead?" Scott finally looked at her. "Beast and Storm are with him now...Henry doesn't know if he's going to make it." Rogue barely heard Scott's last words as she was already flying down the hall. This explained the rain that suddenly popped up. No doubt Storm was upset, Gambit meant so much to her. Rogue shoved the door out of the way, ripping it off of it's hinges and entered the Med lab.

"cause she stole my heart..."

Ororo met Rogue's gaze, her eyes filled with tears. She quickly moved away from the bed, but put her hand one Rogue's shoulder as she walked away. "He does not have much time, my friend." Rogue knelt next his bed and gently took his hand. Henry had obviously cleaned Remy up a little, but he still looked so bad. He just looked so awful. Rogue bent her head and began to cry. She could feel her heart breaking. "Doncha leave me, ya swamp rat. Ah can't make it without ya. Lord, ah love ya so much." Rogue simply watched Remy. Taking him in with her senses. She would have given anything to look in his eyes one last time.

"gaspin' for air..."

There was so much Rogue wanted to tell Remy, but she simply couldn't form the word. So she just watched as his breath began to slow. Rogue took off her glove and gently caressed his face as she never could before. She gently smoothed Remy's hair away from his face and kissed him one last time. She knew that her powers wouldn't work at these last moments. There simply wasn't any life to be taken away.

"cause she took my breath away..."

Alarms began to go off when Remy's breathing finally stopped. Rogue walked away as Henry began to switch them off. She went up to the roof, where she and Remy had spent so many moments together and began to reflect. She remembered how they had gone on dates at Henry's Bar, and how he would kiss her gloved hand. Rogue suddenly stood and flew straight up in the air. Then she let herself fall, marveling at how the butterflys she got left so much like the feeling of being in love...
