(A twist on Dave Matthew's "The Dreaming Tree")
Standing here, spirits softly
Whispering to me
'Long before your time,
Here stood the Deku Tree.'
Below Him I sat
For hours at a time
Now time takes away
What forever took to find.
Forever to find refuge under the Great Deku Tree's forever
protecting wing. Without Him, I am nothing. Only a poor, lost, lonely soul. Without
a purpose. Why was I born? Why was I chosen for this quest? I am so different
from the others and if I died it wouldn't matter. That's why I was chosen.
I feel the fall of dark.
How I long to be,
Beneath the Deku Tree.
Of course, I do have one friend. "Saria...." I
whispered.
When the girl who first I kissed
Promised she'd be mine.
But now everything is changing. I may never see her again. It was
hard enough to part with my mother. I was only an infant, but I'll always
remember...
Remembered Mother's words
There beneath the tree
"No matter what the world,
You'll always be my baby.
Mother come quick
The Deku Tree has died.
A fear I cannot hide
The Deku Tree has died.
Then Saria was at my side. I looked into her eyes. Those
beautiful blue, crystaline eyes. Just like mine, I thought. But her eyes were
always happy and filled with pure joy. Mine were... empty. "Link what are
you doing? What's happening to you?" Her voice shook with fear.
This thing I do.
I do not deny that
I knew I would leave you now.
Then I realized that for her to be strong, I had to be strong. I
dried my eyes with a sleeve, scratching the side of my face on my wooden
Deku Shield. I really would have to get used to this.
I would leave you up
to your own devices.
Will you not talk?
Can you take pity?
I don't ask much,
But won't you speak?
Please...
"Saria, the Deku Tree told me that I must leave, on a
journey. I don't know when I'll be back... or if... I'll be back." Our
roads were splitting... Our worlds crashing down..
Wilted so and soured.
Black tears stain the cheeks
That once were so admired.
There on my Mother's knee
How she had promised me
"You'll always be my baby."
Mother come quick
The Deku Tree has died.
I can't find my way home.
And there's no place to hide
The Deku Tree has died.
Now, seven long years after that fateful day, I stood in the
Sacred Forest Meadow, Saria's words ringing in my head, her cries for help.
Save me... please."
What did you think? I hope you liked it. I hope I didn't make
Link, The Mighty Hero of Time, look too much like a whimp. But let's just put
it this way... His adventure is only just beginning and the scars of battle has
not yet callused his soul.. HA! How's that for poetic. (Yuck). R/R I'd like to
see if I should change my style a bit for future fics. Love ya's.
