Author's notes

Kyaa! I'm writing a romance fic! It's the end of the world! Ok, the world's not really ending. On the other hand, it IS my first romance fic, not to mention my first fanfic, so go easy on the criticism. I'm not used to exploiting other people's characters to write (I usually write original stories, not that I've ever finished one.), so I'm very sorry if the people are a little out of character. Oh, and this is a Fuu x Ferio fic, so if you don't like that pairing…well, this is your warning. Anyway, enough of my rambling, on with the story!

The Eye of the Hurricane

Fuu sat alone in her bedroom. Ten years ago, she would have been spending time outside with her precious friends, Hikaru and Umi. Ten years ago, she never would have been this lonely. But now was not ten years ago. Time had marched unstoppably onwards, slowly changing Fuu's life for the worse. Her friends had drifted away to forge their own lives with their loved ones, leaving Fuu alone as time and distance slowly forced a wedge between the Magic Knights. She did not blame them for going away, but she did miss her friends, and envied them. She wished she could have someone to love and forge a new life with. Once, she thought that was possible. But, the love of her life, too, grew distant, leaving her more alone than ever. She did not blame him, either. He was stubbornly doing what he felt was right, and that stubbornness when it came to moral issues was one of the things she loved in him. One of many things. Though curiously, it seem that his distance had caused her more pain and loneliness than her friends', though she would not say that she loved them any less than him. Perhaps it was because her love for him was of a different type than her love for her friends. But despite the fact that she didn't blame them, she was incredibly lonely. Not to mention incredibly bored.

Fuu sat restlessly at her desk, wondering what she could do to make herself feel better. Her roving eyes settled on a piece of lined notebook paper.

"Perhaps writing out my emotions will help me sort things out…" Fuu said out loud to no one in particular. Taking a quill out of the ink (unfortunately, Cephiro had yet to invent either pencils or pens, and importing them was expensive), Fuu began to pour her heart out into a poem that defined herself.

My heart is the eye of a hurricane

A storm's winds protect it from harm

But my guardian wind is also my captor

From which my heart can't escape Its blinding winds obscure

What happiness I have

They push away

My loves and friends

And keep me sadly alone

Those who have reached

My sanctuary/cell

Were gradually pushed away

By these never-ending winds

Won't you please brave the hurricane

And comfort my lonely soul

Won't you please,

Suddenly a voice rang out, "Fuu-sama! Fuu-sama, you're needed! Someone's been attacked by a monster!" In response, Fuu barreled out the door and towards the palace gates. Someone needed her healing magic. The poem was blown to the floor by her departure, the last line left unwritten.

Disclaimer:

Fuu, Cephiro, Umi, Hikaru, etc. belong to clamp and bunch of other people who don't happen to be me. The poem is mine.

Chapter 2 will be up whenever I finish it.

Please R&R. All flames will be used to ignite my little brother's hair.
