Berry here again.
The X-Men aint mine, Marvel's being all uppity about selling them off,
pfft. Okay, I have a lot more work done
on "An X-Men's Trip" but, damn, I really hate the title. Feel free to mail me suggestions, I'm
thinking any title is better than the one I've got ;) "Eternity and aDay" is kinda a stand alone story, but the main
character is the same from "Tomorrow is Blinded by Yesterday" & "Forever is
Within the Moment" (the 2nd which I'm still working on, yes I wrote
them outta order, go me!) In any case,
enjoy and please review!!! It
makes my world go 'round ;)

Eternity and a Day
Another
drop of crimson fell from her eyes. It
stained the wooden pew where she'd been sitting for the last hour waiting for
him until he had finally arrived. The
silence wore on for both of them, neither daring to speak. In a low voice, she whispered again,
"don't."
The woman
next to him clearly disturbed the man the way she wept blood.
"Don'
what?" he spoke softly. Although it was
well into the long bleak night and everyone had left the holy place of worship,
he still had something against raising his voice in a church any more than he
had to. Chalk it up to a Catholic
upbringing.
She turned
to look at him, trying to wipe away the tears, leaving scarlet streaks in their
wake. "Don't go."
He paused,
the moment warring on. "Don't go… to
dem?"
"Yes. I couldn't sleep at night if I had to kill
you."
Not that
the man was worried for his life. The
woman on his right had to be about twenty years his senior, although she had
aged well. She was beautiful at any age
with her high cheek bones and deep blue eyes.
The dim light provided by the candles brought out the red highlights in
her hair. Her body was lean and
feminine, not toned or muscled like his female teammates were.
"Why would
you kill me? I just met you chere."
A sad smile
played on her lips. "I must make sure
your teammates do not find those book they are currently looking for. I have looked into all possibilities and I'm
afraid death is the only answer to stop it from coming."
"How did
you know what they were up to?"
"I know I
lot more than I let on Remy."
A chill ran
through his body as she, a complete stranger he'd never met until just a few
minutes ago in the old forgotten church, spoke his name. "I see you know my name also, neh? You a mutant like me I presume?"
She turned
away from him to wipe away another dark ruby tear. "Yes… like you."
Her let her
compose herself as she refused to look at him for long moments. "I am precognitive. If I don't stop them, you can't even
conceive the horrors that will come of it."
"But you'd
feel bad 'bout killing me?"
"Something
like that Remy."
Again, the
softness in her voice bled as she said his name out loud. "And what do I call you seeing as how you
know mine?"
"Infinity." She got up and left him to ponder as she
walked to the rows of candles. She lit
the wick to one and silently made a pray, pleaded for the strength. For her.
For him. For everything that has
and hasn't happened yet.
She turned
to look at him one last time. "I've
always loved your eyes." And with that,
she was gone.
So much
said in such little words to him, and yet, still more left unsaid. The eternal enigma of it all. The never
ending cycle of yesterday, today and tomorrow blended together to give way to
what?
Every hardship; every joy; every temptation is a
challenge of the spirit; that the human soul may prove itself. The great chain
of necessity wherewith we are bound has divine significance; and nothing
happens which has not some service in working out the sublime destiny of the
human soul.
