The Many Changes

Disclaimer: Still don't own it

A/N: Thank you everyone who reviewed. I really appreciated it. Here's the next chapter, which I tried to make longer.

"Arnold?", she said again, this time louder. "Hey Helga. How was your summer?", Arnold asked. "Good.", she said lying. Her summer was spent listening to her parents fuss over her sister. Olga had come to visit for the summer, making Helga miserable. Her father decided that since Olga was visiting, Helga should spend all of her time with her.

Not that Helga had anything better to do. She and Phoebe had grown apart over the years. This was because Phoebe was now going out with Gerald and all of her free time was spent with him. Arnold was now with the in crowd and rarely saw Helga. He still spent time with Gerald, but they weren't as close as they had been in the fourth grade. Helga pretty much kept to herself.

She had long ago given up her pink bow and dress. She now wore jeans and t-shirts and kept her hair down. She wasn't the only one who changed physically. Phoebe still looked about the same, except she had contact lenses in place of her glasses. Gerald didn't have his red shirts anymore either. He and Arnold both wore whatever was in at the time. Also, Arnold had given up his blue hat that he had cherished so much as a child. This had broken Helga's heart, but she knew that he had changed and had to except it.

"I hope they don't ask anymore about my summer.", she thought, not wanting to talk about Olga. But the fates weren't on her side. "What did you do?", Phoebe asked. "Not much.", she said, hoping to avoid a discussion about her sister.

She didn't bother asking about how their summer was. She already knew. Phoebe and Gerald spent every waking minute together and Arnold was now going out with Nicole, a girl who had moved there a few months before. They seemed really happy together and Helga was glad. Glad for Arnold, but sad for herself. She had tried to move on, but it was impossible. She never had gotten up the courage to tell Arnold how she felt about him. Now she felt like she would never get the chance. "I've missed the boat.", she thought sadly.

Before they could ask anymore questions, she quickly ran into the school. Once inside, she hurried for homeroom, hoping that they wouldn't be there. The last thing she needed was another confrontation with them.

A/N: I'll try to post the next chapter soon. That is if anyone wants it.
