Lyrics: "A Case of you" by Joni Mitchell 1971.
Notes: Set during "Over the Rainbow" - Angel takes a time during Wesley's research to contemplate his loss.

======================

"Oh, you are in my blood like holy wine,

You taste so bitter and so sweet,

Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling

And I would still be on my feet,

I would still be on my feet"

"I'm frightened by the devil.

And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid,

I remember that time you told me, you said,

'Love is touching souls',

Well surely you touched mine"

==============================

Angel had found himself on the roof of the Hyperion; he had stepped out the moment the sunlight dispersed. Wesley was still working out how to find a portal to Lorne's dimension, Lorne was busy thinking up dumb reasons for staying behind and Cordy was gone. That was the clincher - the cause of Angel's distress. Cordy. Gone.

Angel had thinking to do. He needed to put his feelings into perspective. He was hurting, lost and confused in the maelstrom of emotions whirling through his consciousness. Surprise, too, had crept up on him. Surprise at the utter helplessness and emptiness he felt without Cordelia, and the complete necessity to get her back.

He had to find a way to her. She was the constant he needed - wanted - in his life. She had a light within her - a light that inspired him to fight on.

Wesley was the 'brains' of AI. Gunn - the bravado. However, Cordy - well, Cordy was the 'heart'. Angel stared out over the city, eyes drilling into every streetscape in his view - almost willing a portal to suddenly appear before him - and therefore take him back to his Cordy. His?. How trite was that? He didn't know where the portals lead. He didn't know if they would be able to return to LA - but it didn't matter. It didn't matter at all. Cordy was all that mattered.

Angel shook his head slightly in a bid to clear his thoughts - when he realised, with a little shiver - that his thoughts were clear. In fact, his thoughts were as crystal clear as they had ever been. Something had been niggling at the back of his consciousness ever since his much-misunderstood 'epiphany'. Something that was trying to exert its influence onto his destiny. It seemed to Angel, that Cordy's little 'dimension jump' was the catalyst to bring that 'something' to the fore.

Cordy was his destiny. Pure and simple - it was fated.

With a renewed energy and focus, Angel turned on his heel and stalked back towards the stairwell. Back to join the crusade to grab hold of his destiny - and to never let go.

"Oh, You are in my blood like holy wine

You taste so bitter and so sweet

Oh I could drink a case of you, darling

And I would still be on my feet

I would still be on my feet."
