Falling leaves of Red and Gold

Disclaimer: don't own anything, so don't sue me, it wouldn't be worth it anyway. All you'd get was my boots and a Lady Marmalade CD. The song is from an episode of Roswell and Majandra Delfino performs it so I guess she owns it too.
Summary: Kathryn goes to Chakotay's grave to tell him a few things.
Spoilers: Endgame and the whole Kathryn/Chakotay/Seven thing.
Rating: Nothing too harmful in here, I think a PG would do nicely.
A/N: I know she doesn't really tell him but I couldn't write it any other way. It takes place a couple of weeks before she does the whole 'time travel to save the voyager crew thingy'. And is it just me, or are the writers seriously not right in the head? They're blind not to get the J/C coupling right and for that they lose one fan cause she's slightly p***** off. Another thing, do you think that new series 'Enterprise' looks crap as well?
Feedback: Come on people, you know you want to. It's badass_wicca@hotmail.com ok?
Cool, enjoy!
Kathryn looked at the grave she had come to for the last two weeks. The earth hadn't settled yet, and the stone on top of it gleamed in the evening sunlight. She knew what she had to say, what she always came here to say, but for some reason she could never seem to get the strength to send the words out of her mouth. She had been here for over three hours. Earlier that day she had gotten a message from Lieutenant Barkley informing her that Tuvok's condition had worsened. She had come straight here, hoping to find courage enough to say what she needed to say.
The earth shall soon
Dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine.
But God, who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.
"Oh God, Chakotay. The family…our family's falling apart. If I don't go back soon, I won't be able to. I don't know what to do." She paused. " I could never tell you, I was too afraid. I know you could never love me like you loved her. When I saw her die, I was heartbroken for you. I just wanted to hold you, tell you everything would be alright. But I knew… I knew you would never be happy with anyone else again, not even me."
She choked out the last words as she watched a stray leaf fall onto his gravestone. It was red with streaks of gold, as her gray hair had once been when it was auburn. She bent down and picked it up in her aging hands. It seemed so fragile, so innocent, like she was now. As the sobs took over her, she sat on the ground next to the stone.
Yes when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease.
I shall posses
Within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
Suddenly she felt a great courage rise within her, and she began to say what she kept hidden for so long.
"But I remember the time we spent together on New Earth. You made it clear to me how you felt. And I was the fool who wanted to just be friends, I now I missed my chance, but now I'm going to take it all back and do it again and tell you how I really felt. I'll see you again soon, and I hope you waited for me in heaven, because I've waited for you long enough."
With that she put the leaf to her lips, kissed it, and laid it down on the gravestone.
And sure enough, a few weeks later, as fireworks of destruction filled the sky from the battle to get her past self home, she stood hand in hand with the man she had waited for for so long. No words were said between the two, for none were needed, as there was peace and understanding that nothing could break. And it would stay that way for all eternity.
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost
But now am found
Was blind but now I see.
