IN A GALAXY NO LONGER SO FAR AWAY... (So long ago it seems) A boy stands to look at the stars as the extensive construction on the new space platform continues, lights flash as the welders carry on with their drudgery. A brighter light draws his eyes, above the platform and so far away, a comet slowly makes it way across the night sky. He raises his hand to it, as if grasping, reaching, reaching...
(The present)... and then closes to form a fist to shake at the streaking mass of rock and ice. "Accursed rock!" He flushed. "Do not let your emotions get the better of you Ni Hon Win. No good will come of it in your future, we are going through a great change in all of our lives." "But..." Ni Hon was interrupted by the larger man, "I know what happened to your friend, and it wasn't the comet's fault and you know that." "Yes sir." But inwardly Hon still hated the beautiful red, pink and white streak that marred the sky and his life.
Ni Hon was looked down upon by the other children as he was growing up, at the recessicial period out in the park behind the school he was confronted many times. No one ever fought him, it seemed as they feared him as much as they scorned him. During one such confrontation, a group of teens challenged him to fight. He declined, but they surrounded him and told him that he didn't have a choice. Just as the fight got on, another boy stepped up, and the circle broke before him. Everyone fled, even the teaching units that were betting on the "strange one" to lose...
Since that day the two of them were inseparable, they found out the reason that everyone feared them was because of their high mitochondrion levels. A sure sign of some latent power. They sensed it around the boys as they walked past. Ni Hon and Dar Taul made a solemn pact to go into Jedi training together. After the spaceport was finished, Dar Taul was placed on assignment to survey the comet, which was a strange enough phenomenon in itself, defense systems didn't allow space rocks or debris through the shield perimeter.
He landed and took samples, then the intercom crackled "Wait! I think I see something else... Smokes! It's another planet!" He had spotted another planet from the surface of the comet, and came back a hero. They sent him and a small diplomatic group to this planet, just in case it was already populated. As they neared the planet's surface, we lost all communication, but the video feed was intact. They were shot down. They saw the light at the last second and were yelling as the small craft was destroyed. The camera still worked once it had crashed on the planet. Minutes later, "Not really an advanced species, one missile took'em out! Hehehaahhaa!" A very ugly person with many decorations on his shoulders left those words burned into his mind. "Well Ni, it is time to move on. You have many tasks to accomplish."
