Chicken Soup
By Shi no Tenshi
He was sick. The great Heero Yuy, one who'd saved the world on more than one occasion had caught the flu. A simple sickness which made his nose stuffy and his throat scratchy. Even his wild brown hair had fallen limp, bending to the virus' will. The power of his death glare had been minimized to one even a 5 year-old could muster. Basically, he was miserable.
The mahogany door to his bedroom in the Peacecraft mansion creaked open, and one sea blue eye and a strands of golden hair became visible to the Formerly-Perfect-But-Now-Kinda-Sick Soldier. He closed his eyes and grinned in spite of himself. Relena…
Sure enough, it was Relena, with a bowl of golden goodness in her hand. "I brought you something to drink," she said with a smile. Sitting on a chair, she moved a spoonful of chicken soup to Heero's lips. A cobalt blue eye opened and glanced wearily at her, before moving onto the silver spoon.
"Drink it," Relena encouraged, light dancing in her eyes. "Whenever I was sick as a little girl, my mother always made me a bowl of chicken soup. It always made me feel better."
Heero grunted, but parted his lips and took a sip of the soup. The nourishment slid down his throat, soothing it and coaxing it to stop throbbing. His headache died down, and a feeling of warmth spread throughout his body. After downing the rest of the soup, he closed his eyes again and let a small sigh escape from his lips.
The clock on the wall ticked minutes by before Relena bent to kiss Heero goodnight. However, she was stopped before she did so, by his hand suddenly covering his mouth. Surprised, she blinked, and looked questioningly at his pale face.
"You'll get sick too."
Adding another item to the mental list of reasons why she loved Heero (which she used in defense of herself frequently), the former queen of the world smiled and settled for a quick peck on his forehead. "Goodnight then," she said and exited the room, her face glowing with happiness, pleasure, and most of all…love.
