Disclaimer : Mulder, Scully, and Skinner belong to Chris Carter and 1013 and all of them that are not me. Agent Putnia is mine, and the jello belongs to itself.
Author's note: Just a random bit that popped into my head and demanded to be written. I know it's bad. I'm sorry.
"Mulder, could you come here for a moment?" Mulder stepped into the room to find Scully craning her neck, staring at something on the ceiling.
"What's going on, Scully? There's a few layers of floor in between you and the stars-" She turned her head and rolled her eyes at him.
"Come here and look at this." She pointed to the green spot staining the uniform gray of the conference room ceiling.
"What is it?" Mulder asked. Scully shrugged.
"I don't know. It appears to be leaking from the room upstairs."
"What's upstairs?"
"I think it's that new agent's office."
"New agent? Oh, you mean that weird woman with all the birds?" Scully snorted.
"Agent Putnia is very nice, Mulder." A moment later there was a sound behind them, and a woman slightly younger than Scully came into the room. She had brown hair pulled back into a ponytail and a little cockateal perched on her shoulder. She glanced at the green spot on the ceiling and bit her lip.
"It's leaking down here too, then..."
"Agent Putnia?" asked Scully.
"There's this green goo leaking through my ceiling and onto my floor. I came to see if it was going through my floor too."
"Do you have any idea what it is?" Mulder questioned. She shook her head.
"None. It smells funny, but I can't identify the odor."
"Would you mind if we went up to your office to take a look?" Scully asked. Putnia shook her head.
"No, go ahead."
As the three filed up the stairs, Mulder grinned at his partner.
"Looks like we've got an X-file in our very own building!" Scully shook her head.
"We'll see, Mulder, we'll see. Don't get too excited." Sure enough, there was a steady trail of the green goo dripping from the ceiling to the floor in Putnia's office. While Mulder stared at the parrot poster on the wall, Scully examined the goo. She put on a rubber glove and wiped some of the stuff on her finger, then sniffed it.
"It smells... fruity," she finally concluded. Scully then dug a little tube out of her pocket and scooped the goo into it.
"I'll take this down to the lab and analyze it. Mulder, Agent Putnia, why don't you go see what's on the next floor?" Mulder nodded and headed for the stairs again, the other agent at his heels.
When the partners met up again about 15 minutes later, they both spoke at once.
"Well?"
"The room's locked," Mulder announced, while Scully said,
"It's lime jello."
"Lime jello?" Mulder repeated. Scully nodded.
"Hasn't fully set. The room's locked, you say? What room is it?" Mulder shrugged.
"We don't know. There's nothing on the door, and I've never really paid any attention to it before."
"We should probably get a custodian or something..." After they located a custodian, and after said custodian cleaned up the mess in Putnia's office and brought fresh newspapers for her cockateal's cage, he followed the three agents upstairs and unlocked the door. What they saw stunned them all.
There stood Assistant Direction Walter Skinner, ankle deep in liquid lime jello.
"Sir??" asked Scully, dumbstruck. Skinner spun around, splashing the jello.
"Agents! What are you doing here?"
"Well, there was this green goo leaking into my office and the conference room below that," Agent Putnia began.
"So we were investigating, and the search led us here," Mulder added.
"Sir, what's going on?" Skinner looked sheepish.
"Let me just put it this way, agents. When a door is locked, it's locked for a reason."
