Title: Paper Angels
Series: Weiss Kruez
Genre: Fluff
Rating: G
Notes: Really, really short. Author notes at the bottom this time.
"You must have an angel looking out for you." The voice was
exasperated and tinged with awe. The boy made no move to answer,
picking himself up off the street as the sunset glinted off his
red hair. He started to turn around, walk away from the scene of
the accident. Seeing that he was unhurt, and gratful for the fact,
the motorist sped off.
An angel? Hardly. Fujimiya Ran slid his hands deeply into his
pockets as he walked in the shadows of the street. That woman
had been driving so slowly that she probably couldn't have hurt
him if she had aimed. His violet eyes traveled the length of
the city with the sharp gaze of a starving stray, his body tensed
from unbreakable habit. A small yen coin was kicked from under his
feet as he paced, and Ran barely noticed as it fell clanging into
the gutter. His mind traveled back to the car and it's driver.
He really should have been paying better attention. She had caught
him just as he had stepped off the curb...He paused to wave off
a little bird that had swooped too close, trilling loudly with
indignation as he shooed it away. Shaking his head, he continued to
walk, his thoughts still occupied. His fingers travelled to his side,
pressing against the orange fabric where the vehicle had caught him.
Not even a bruise. In fact, now that he considered it, he hadn't
even lost his breath at the impact. And the landing had been
almost gentle, for all he had been hit by a moving vehicle.
"Lucky, I suppose..." He murmered to himself, the long sides of
his bangs slapping lightly at his cheeks.
"Lucky?" The wind seemed to echo him , and as Ran shut
his eyes to enjoy the fresh evning gusts, something landed against
his chest and fell to the ground with a crinkle. He stepped back
instinctivly, eyes narrowed and ready for confrontation, but as he
looked down by his feet he was struck dumb, his breath leaving
with an emotional impact that most likely would have rivaled
the car.
A wrinkled paper airplane had just landed at his feet.
~end
A/N: I was just reading this thing on how people who have died
try to care for those they've left behind and try to contact
them with things like pennies(or yen coins ^^) from heaven,
birds, etc...but somehow I think Ran would need a bit more
convicing...And I love Botan. I love RanxBotan. That's all.
