Early on, a short debate about the environment

Amanda has Sarek over for dinner to christen their budding friendship, with hopes for more but doubting her chances. But an old family recipe might bring a few surprises she never would have suspected.

"Doctor! We must leave now, or we, you and I, will die!" Spock was actually reasoning with him, but McCoy sensed he was only half a rational thought away from being nerve-pinched to unconsciousness. And Spock was a very rational guy.

A sequel of sorts to 'Learning Curve,' McCoy first learns of the existence of a mind link between Kirk and Spock when Jim is captured by the Gorn and tortured to within an inch of his life, the bond their only hope of finding him before it's too late.
