Captain Vincent Keryk stared at the screen for fifteen minutes straight. The Vedran Empress had headhunted him - built the biggest ship in the known universe - for him - and sent him on a
classified mission the Andromeda Ascendant was originally going to go on. Whatever happened to that Perseid - Captain Parim? Keryk's new ship, the Eye of the Storm, had a crew of 15 000 and
operations like no other ship. Keryk wondered why was he being sent here. What happened anyway? The ship's AI hologram was watching her captain sternly.
"The modifications to the slip drive are ready." While grasping his station, Keryk also wondered - why was one third of his crew security, and why was his entire crew the most superior forcelance
carriers in the galaxy.
"Transitting to slipstream in three, two one." The slip pulled the captain forward. He watched his Nietzchean pilot anticipate and move through the slipstream.
"Normal space...three, two, one." Again, the ship pulled the captain forward.
"I'm not reading any ships in the vicinity. I can, however, see where we are. 20 lightyears until the Andromeda Ascendant at its last known coordinates." His Perseid first officer noted. Keryk thought
back to his meeting with the Vedran Empress.....
"I want you to investigate the coordinates. We think there may be Magog here, so be careful." Empress Sucharitkul XII sat before Captain Keryk.
"I thought the Andromeda Ascendant.."
"You will recieve these orders and follow them."
"Yes, of course." Keryk lowers his head.
"Map the coordinates. If you find any Commonwealth ships, bring them to Commonwealth space."
.....
Keryk nods to his first officer.
"Move ahead, 25 psl." The Perseid says. After a lengthy period of time, a blip appears and everyone looks up. The AI looks surprised.
"It's the Andromeda Ascendant!"
"Hail them." Keryk orders.
"No response." The AI says.
.....bring them to Commonwealth space.....
"We'll have to get them to Tarn-Vedra. They are not beyond repair." Suddenly sounds erupted.
"I'm detecting ships punching into the hull! More are approaching!" The AI yells.
"Battle stations!" The lights dim and blue lights start blinking as the klaxon starts.
"Who are they?" The Perseid yells.
"Who else would it be?" Keryk yells. "We're in Magog space, aren't we?" The Perseid turns pale.
"Magog ships." At that exact moment, Keryk finished the puzzle.
Empress Sucharitkul wanted him to retrieve the Andromeda - so she sent a ship - well armed, well defended.
And the last piece fit in perfectly. The Andromeda was massacred. And the same was to happen to him.
It would seem, as the ship rocked violently, that his ship, the Eye of the Storm, was about to be inside the eye of the storm.
