Logan was sitting at his computers working on the next Streaming Freedom
broadcast when Max silently appeared in the door way. He was getting used to it. She
showed up when she wanted to, stayed only as long as she wanted, and then left when she
wanted. He admired that, but wasn't used to not having the complete control. Maybe it
was her independence that he loved so much. But a fast paced girl like her would never
go for a cripple like him.
His thoughts went back again to that fateful day when he was shot. He knew that
he was supposed to be careful, but no matter how he could have prepared, he never
thought that he would end up in a wheelchair. He had a chance before, but now, he was
just...
"Whatcha doin' there?" Max interrupted his thoughts.
"Just finishing up," Logan said as he turned around to see her standing there, as
usual. She was so beautiful.... "What can I do for you today, Max?"
The smile, it was there; always just out of his reach.
"Hmmm, I am getting predictable, aren't I? Actually I just stopped by to see if
you needed me for anything. Normal is on a rampage, and I figure it's best to stay out of
his way for a while. But to tell you the truth, I'm bored."
"I didn't think that genetically engineered super girls could get bored."
"Untrue," she said moving out of the door way. "There's only so much you can
do in this place until you've done it all. Especially when you don't sleep."
"I think I saw a car about 3 blocks from here that you haven't stripped yet," Logan
said with a smile.
"You can only strip so many cars."
The phone interrupted them.
"Hold that thought," Logan said picking up the phone. Max turned around, not
wanting to invade on his private phone calls. But then, it was Logan, and she would
probably be in on it anyway, so she decided to listen in anyway.
"Logan, man, I need your help. I know that after all you've done for me, setting
me up with a new identity and all... is this line secure?" a man on the other end whispered.
"Yes, Alan, now what's wrong?"
Alan paused. "I think I'm being followed again. But this time it's not the police.
It's someone new. I don't know. All I know is that I need out, and I need out now."
"I'll do what I can, call me back in two hours, if I can get it set up, I'll have you
out before tomorrow." He hung up the phone.
"What's that guy's problem?" Max asked.
"He's being followed, but by who, I don't know yet."
"Do you need my help?" She asked nonchantley. She didn't want to seem to eager
to help even though she was.
"Maybe. I'll have to get more information first."
"Okay, you know my number. Been doing anything else?"
"No. Not really." There was a strange silence. "Is there something wrong Max?"
"Why would there be anything wrong?" She asked, she was distracted by
something.
"Like I said before, maybe you're getting predictable."
"No, actually, I was wondering, if you're not doing anything else, if you'd like to
go outside... the weather is really nice, and you look like you could use a little sun light."
"It's a nice thought, but I'm kinda busy right now. But I'll take you up on it
later." he said without looking up. 'Stupid,' he thought to himself. She was asking him
to go for a walk, and he blows her off.
"Alright. Well, gotta blaze," Max was disappointed, and even a little
embarrassed. 'Stupid' she thought to herself. What was she thinking, and how lame!
Asking Logan outside because he looked like he could use some sunlight. Now that really
made her sound desperate.
She brushed it off and headed back to Jam Pony. Herbal would have some incite,
and he wouldn't ask so many questions.
Being cautious, she exited Logan's building. The last thing she needed to deal
with was protecting Logan at home becuase she lead some thugs to him.
