When Water Meets Wind
A Haruka and Michiru fiction

She stood at the window and sighed softly, watching the waves below her come in slowly at the change of the tide. It was bothering her again tonight. This aching desire that had settled its weight upon her heart. 'I'm not getting any older,' she thought with bitterness. 'I want this. I need this.' And as her lover woke and turned to her, she wiped a small tear from her cheek.

Her arms slid around Michiru's waist and she lightly kissed her neck. "Michiru, what's wrong?"

"I'm fine, Haruka. Go back to bed."

Haruka shook her head and looked out at the ocean. "Something's bothering you."

"No, I'm fine."

"Don't lie to yourself."

Michiru lowered her head. "Haruka," she said after a moment, "I want a baby."

"What?"

"I want a baby. A family."

"We already have Hotaru..."

"No. Hotaru is wonderful and I love her as much as I could love anyone but Haruka, I want a baby. Something that's a part of me."

"Is this because of my flirting with Serena because you know it didn't mean anything - "

"It's not because of that. It's me, Haruka. There's something inside me saying that I have to have a baby or my life isn't complete. Don't you feel that way too?"

"No. I may be as much a woman as you are but somethings just don't come naturually like they do for you."

"Well, this feeling, this desire, it's growing stronger. I'm almost 30 you know and I feel so old."

"Hey. I just turned 30 two months ago."

"I didn't mean to offend you. But I feel like if I don't have a family now, I never will."

"Is it what you really want, Michiru?"

Michiru leaned into her lover's arms and looked into her eyes. "More than anything, Haruka."

"Then it will be done."

"Really, Haruka? You want this?"

"If it makes you happy, I do. We'll go first thing tomorrow."

Neither spoke for a moment as they let the words and what the promise of tomorrow will bring. In the darkness, she finally let herself go, crying out loud.

Haruka turned Michiru to face her and looked into her eyes. "Tears, my love?"

"Happy tears, love. Only happy tears."

Haruka placed her hand on Michiru's cheek and drew her to her in a kiss. Their kiss grew with increasing desire and minutes later gentle water met strong wind. Later, they lay there in bed, arms wrapped around each other and being lulled asleep by the sound of the ocean, and happily thought about the future they would share tomorrow.
