Lullaby
The world turns slowly, in night enveloped,
Through the light from which it developed.
The demons command me - who am I to deny?
Come, friend, and I'll sing my fearful lullaby.
Darkness falls, but I shall not cease,
Till a cruel heart's beating is brought to peace!
You grieve not, beast, so neither can I,
Till I sing you my vengeful lullaby.
Poor, tortured spark, so lost and betrayed.
Is your revenge really worth the price that you paid?
Hush, dearest playmate, re-learn to cry,
And I shall sing you a dark lullaby.
Monster, stand back! You shall not catch me,
Like you did those I loved when you broke free.
I hear it forever, each day that goes by;
The elegy you sung them, their last lullaby.
Watch that knife, my friend, it comes very close!
You gave up your life when the hunt you chose.
Stand still, now, and release will be nigh.
Be calm and listen to Death's soft lullaby.
My death before yours? Oh, no, I think not!
I shall victor, creep, and leave you to rot!
For the dark words you whispered, if just to defy
Your masters, I'll sing you my cold lullaby
And then what, my friend, what happens from there?
You cannot destroy this bond that we share.
You live without me? Oh, please, what a lie!
You can't exist without the monster's lullaby!
Be still, foul beast! I am nothing like you!
That can't be wrong, it has to be true.
I'm no monster, like you; I would rather die.
So stand away and silence your vile lullaby.
Cower you may, but forget not what's real.
Your spark is not fooled by your mind's childish spiel.
Try as you wish, but it's no use to deny,
Someday you'll sing my lone lullaby...
Come back here, monster, and tell me the truth!
This folly is wrong, a lie so uncouth!
How dare you defile that on which I rely?
It cannot be so, I'll not sing your lullaby...
