Your Eyes

As I stand in front of you,
I look at you, but do not really see you.
At first, I see no reaction
on your battle-hardened face.
You must have known this was coming.
Our relationship could not survive on arguments.
It could not survive on distrust.
Distrust.
This is what it had come down to.
After all our years together.
You haven't been the same.
What happened to the Yamucha I used to know?
I remember when you used to be so shy around women.
You couldn't even speak to them.
But all that has changed.
I thought I knew you.
Maybe everything is my fault.
Maybe it is I that have changed.
You thought you knew me.
As I look into your eyes,
I see the hidden scars from your past.
I see hurt and suffering.
I see pain.
Your eyes penetrate my soul,
grasping for the one thing that cannot be found.
Love.
