Jordan backed off away from Angel and seemed to take a minute to regroup herself before talking again.
"I'm sorry. Things like that happen to me all the time, and I just can't control them," Jordan explained. Angel was still a bit shook up by what had just happened. "I've had six vampire husbands so far, and all were very evil. All were also killed by the slayer," she added with a bit of bitterness in her voice. "After each death, I always found someone else quickly. The more evil the vampire was, the more attracted I was to them."
Angel sat for a second and let all of what he had heard soak in. "What about your family?," he asked, scratching his chin. "Do they know about all of this?."
"They were killed when I was fifteen by a group of demons while I was at a friend's house," Jordan replied quietly.
"Oh. I'm sorry..."
"Thanks."
"So, you said you've been married six times?," Angel said with astonishment in his voice. Jordan nodded her head.
"Yes, my first marriage was shortly after my family died."
"And did any of your husbands ever try to bite you?," Angel asked her.
"Not that I recall..."
"Are you married right now?."
"No. I decided to get help from you after my last husband was killed."
"When was that?," Angel asked as he jotted down all the information in her file.
"Last night."
Angel looked up from his writing and noticed for the first time how exhausted Jordan looked. Her eyes were puffy, not only from lack of sleep, but also from crying. She had probably rode all night in a taxi cab to get to Angel.
"Would you like to stay here until we sort your case out?," Angel asked her.
"I was sort of hoping you would ask that. I couldn't check into a hotel or anything since I'm not old enough, so I brought my bags here," Jordan said and stood up. "They're in your lobby." The two of them exited Angel's office and went into the lobby where Cordy, Wes and Gunn were waiting behind the desk for their next client. Angel gasped as he saw the mountain of luggages and clothes chests. Jordan knew it looked like a lot of stuff, but she had left a lot behind.
"Did I mention that all of my husbands were very wealthy?," Jordan asked, trying to make a joke out of all her stuff.
"Hey guys, this is Jordan. She's going to be staying here for a while, as you can see," Angel said to his three friends. They all greeted Jordan and Angel continued on. "Cordy, would you please show her to one of our spare rooms while Gunn, Wes and I carry her things down?."
"Sure. This way, Jordan," Cordy said as she led her down some stairs and down a hallway. Angel looked after them and contemplated what had happened. He could still taste Jordan's lip gloss on his lips.
"This is going to be one hell of a case," he thought to himself as he picked up a suitcase.
