"Look at me now, I've come so far/ Now I'm a superstar!/ Refuse to be marred/ And weighed down by these scars!"

Angelo sang into the night, not caring how loud his voice was. He was alone, and no one was bound to hear him. That's why he chose this time and this spot to sing his song.

He sat on the cliff edge overlooking the sea, not too far from the Smash Mansion. Down below, the waves crashed against the rock in a monotonous beat, which provided the perfect background noise. The grass felt nice under him, and the cool night air rustled with the faintest of breezes. The stars were out in full force tonight, and Angelo couldn't help but marvel at the jewels of the night sky. The full moon was out as well, giving him enough light to see by.

The song he sang was of his own creation. He wrote it in secret, having never told anyone, not even Meta Knight or Terry, his closest friends.

He found that somewhat amusing. He faced every battle in the Smash Mansion without fear. He never backed down from a challenge, and he was always up for anything. And yet, he was too scared of what others might think of his song.

He sang a few more verses, enjoying the freedom of the night, when someone behind him said, "That's a nice song."

His heart slammed against his chest as he whirled around to face the newcomer, his sword instantly appearing in his hands. Corrin yelped as Angelo thrust the tip of his blade against her throat, stopping her cold.

"WHOA!" she shouted, throwing up her hands. "I come in peace! Calm down!"

Angelo took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. Then he lowered his sword. He hadn't meant to react like that. Then again, Corrin shouldn't have snuck up on him like that.

"Sorry," he said. "I was, uh, kind of in the moment."

"I could tell," she said, fingering the spot where the blade touched her neck.

"What are you doing here, Corrin?" he asked, not rudely.

Corrin seemed to remember something then, and that's when her face turned red. "Oh! I-I, uh, um…" she stammered. "I-I couldn't…sleep. Yes, I couldn't sleep, so I, um…d-decided to go for…a walk."

Angelo nodded. He'd felt the exact same way that night.

The half-dragon gestured to where he was sitting. "W-what are you doing out here?"

Angelo shrugged. "Couldn't sleep either. Needed a place to think, clear my head."

Corrin tilted her head. "Oh, alright."

Angelo willed his sword to disappear, then turned and sat back down in his spot. He heard the other Fighter join him shortly afterwards, sitting down a few feet to his right.

Angelo was pretty sure he knew why Corrin was really here. It had come to his attention that she acted a little…strange around him. Her voice tended to rise an octave or two when she was talking to him, and she could never maintain eye contact with him for more than a few seconds. Her cheeks would turn red and she would stammer and stumble over her words. He also tended to catch her staring at him, and when he noticed, she would quickly turn away, her face flushed with embarrassment.

Of course, he wasn't blind to what this meant. He knew it added up to one thing: Corrin had a crush on him.

He wasn't sure how he felt about that. He'd barely ever spoken to Corrin. His feelings for Corrin weren't quite the same as hers. To Angelo, she was a neutral party; neither his friend nor his enemy.

The two of them gazed at the stars together in silence for a short while. Angelo was a little annoyed that he couldn't sing his song anymore, but he was also a little relieved that he now had someone to share the night with.

Corrin cleared her throat. "So, um, that song…I don't think I've ever, um, heard it before. W-what is it called?"

Angelo glanced at her for a second, deciding whether or not he should share. The half-dragon was twisting a lock of her silver hair with a single finger, her lips pressed together nervously. Her eyes were fixed on the ground in front of her.

Deciding to take a chance, he told her, "That's because I wrote it. It's a song of my own."

Corrin's eyes widened. "Oh, wow! I didn't think you, um, wrote your own songs."

Angelo shook his head. "Not really. This is the only one I've ever written. It's…kind of a new experience for me, but it's really fun."

Corrin looked at him and opened her mouth to say something, then noticed he was looking at her. Her cheeks acquired a red tint and she quickly turned away, tugging nervously at her hair.

"What's it, um, called?" she asked.

"I…haven't decided on a name yet. I've written the whole song, figured out the melody, worked out the lyrics, done literally everything else. And yet, I can't decide what I want to name it. Crazy how that works," he said with a small laugh.

The other Fighter laughed weakly as well, but her eyes held no humor. In fact, she looked kind of scared. It was pretty obvious that she was dying to say something, but she couldn't bring herself to say it out loud.

So Angelo was shocked when she took a deep breath and said, "A-Angelo, I…um, there is something that I, uh, w-want to tell you that…has been on my m-mind for…a while n-now."

He waited.

"Well, I-I think that you are…a, uh, pretty nice person, and you're g-good at fighting in battles and you're just…" She sighed and covered her face. "No. No, that's not what I wanted to say."

Corrin took another deep breath. "Let me start over. I…well, I have these feelings in…m-my heart, and I've n-never really…shared them with a-anyone before, because…b-because…I don't know why, but…no one else knows a-about this, and I felt…as if I-I should tell you myself and see how y-you feel about it."

Angelo remained completely silent as he stared at the half-dragon. He felt like he was watching a bird in the grass. One sudden move, one loud noise, and it would fly away, frightened.

The red in her cheeks deepened as she nervously balled her fists in her lap, not looking Angelo in the eye as she scooted a few inches closer to him. "I guess…w-what I am really trying to say is…is that…that…I-I…well…"

Angelo nodded ever so slightly, quietly encouraging her to continue. This was the moment of truth, he realized.

Corrin scooted a little closer to him, tightening her fists. In the moonlight, her silver hair seemed to shine like polished titanium, and she looked to be on the verge of tears as she slowly raised her head to look at Angelo.

When their eyes met, the red in her cheeks deepened even further. Her chest moved up and down a little as she tried to control her breathing. Ever so slowly, she seemed to regain her composure while Angelo waited for her to go on.

At last, she opened her mouth to speak. "I…I…I-I think…I…love you, Angelo."

He was so distracted by her words, so focused on whether or not she might actually say it, that he almost didn't notice what happened next.

Corrin leaned in and kissed him, her soft lips pressing against his. It was a short kiss, but Angelo could feel all the affection she truly felt for him in that brief contact. Her earlier words were meek and insignificant in comparison to what he sensed in that kiss.

The swordsman also realized that deep down, he had some of the same feelings for Corrin. He just hadn't fully comprehended them after all this time.

Finding a partner for his heart was a concept that had crossed Angelo's mind multiple times. He wondered which Fighter in the Smash Mansion would be a good match for him. Unfortunately, his options weren't exactly the best for him. Peach, Daisy, Zelda, and Robin already had their own love interests. Lucina and Byleth were too serious for him. Leaf was too young. Palutena was a goddess. He was pretty sure Wii Fit Trainer wasn't even human. Zero Suit Samus scared him a little. Rosalina was too quiet and reserved. Bayonetta was too brash in a way for him. He had no feelings for Pyra norMythra nor Min Min. Isabelle was a dog, so she was out of the question.

Corrin, on the other hand, seemed to be the best fit for him. She was the closest to his age and he liked her peppy personality. He had no idea that she had these feelings for him, and now he was kind of glad that she had told him.

Corrin pulled away, the edges of her eyes glistening with tears. She took a nervous breath and looked Angelo in the eyes again, probably trying to gauge his reaction. Her expression was one of anticipation…and a little bit of fear.

The move had left him utterly speechless. He couldn't have been more stunned if he'd been hit by Corrin's fully charged Neutral-B.

For a moment, it was absolutely still, absolutely quiet. Even the gentle breeze had died down, as if the whole world was holding its breath, waiting for Angelo's response.

Then he smiled and reached for her face, brushing a lock of silver hair out of Corrin's eyes. Her shaky breath was the only sound in the night as the two Fighters gazed into each other's eyes. A lone tear finally escaped and made its way down the half-dragon's cheek, glistening like quicksilver.

"Corrin," Angelo said at last. "I think I might feel the same way."

Corrin let out a laugh, and more tears of joy began to spill from her eyes. She leaned in and kissed him again, and Angelo's entire body heated up. Somewhere in his heart, it felt like a darkness had lifted, a darkness borne of uncertainty for his future. All of his doubts and all of his fear about finding someone to share his love drained away as they held the kiss for a few seconds, and he had to admit that it felt pretty good.

The other Fighter finally pulled away and gasped for air, trying to control herself as tears continued to stream down her face.

"Whoa, whoa!" Angelo said, gently grabbing her shoulders. "Hey, what's wrong?"

Corrin let out a half laugh, half sob noise as she wiped her eyes. "I'm just…s-so happy… so unbelievably relieved that…I-I'm not crazy, you know? Y-you feel the same way, and it's a little m-much to take in, an-"

"Hey, it's okay, it's okay," he said, pulling her in a little closer. "It took me a while to realize, but yeah, I do feel the same way. I love you too, Corrin."

Corrin smiled through her tears and threw her arms around him, kissing him once more. Angelo wrapped his own arms around her, and the two Fighters sat in each other's embrace, alone in the night except for each other, and they both knew that they couldn't have been happier.

They held the kiss for the longest time. It might've been seconds, but it felt like forever. Corrin's tongue softly pressed against Angelo's lips, as if asking to be let in. He opened his mouth slightly and granted her entry. He never understood why people described others as tasty when they were attracted to them, but now he saw the reason. She tasted sweet in Angelo's mouth, and he hungered for more, wanted her all to himself, and he knew she felt the exact same way.

The other Fighter made a small noise and suddenly pulled away, gasping for air again. Her crimson eyes seemed to shine with the pure joy she must have been feeling, and he couldn't help but smile at her.

She took Angelo's hand and held it for a second, not doing anything with it, just enjoying the contact.

"So…" she said, tilting her head slightly. "Are you going to finish singing your song?"

Angelo looked away and gazed at the stars. "Nah, I'm good for now."

"What?" she asked incredulously, clutching his hand to her chest. "Please? I think it sounds really good, judging from the little I got to hear of it."

The swordsman laughed and looked at her again, her big red eyes pleading with him.

He couldn't say no to those eyes. It would kill him inside.

"You really wanna hear it?" he asked her.

She nodded.

"Alright, alright," he relented. "I'll sing my song for you. But only for you. I'm...not ready to show it to anyone else yet."

"Thank you," the half-dragon said with a satisfactory smile. She scooted closer until they were snuggling together, then leaned forward and rested her head against his chest. "Plus," she added. "I think you have a nice voice."

Hearing that gave him the courage he needed to continue. So, wrapping his arms around Corrin, he started his song from the top. Gradually, his voice got stronger, and the night rang with the sound of his song.

What do you guys think? My first romantic story. Not too bad, I think.
