"Look at him," Daisy scoffed.
Lucina couldn't help but nod.
The Sarasaland Princess, of course, was talking about Angelo. The two Fighters sat on couches in the rest area of the Smash Mansion, watching as the swordsman chatted with Terry about…something. Whatever it was, it must have been exciting. And a bit hilarious. Angelo would frequently laugh at something Terry said. It looked like he was having the time of his life.
And that's what drove Daisy crazy.
"No one?" she asked incredulously.
Min Min overheard the conversation and walked up to them. Her ARMS were inactive at the moment. "Yeah," she said. "No one."
Lucina shook her head. "I fail to believe how that is possible."
"Surely he has eyes for someone," Mythra commented, accompanied by Pyra as they walked up to the other girls.
Min Min sighed. "It sure doesn't seem that way."
Samus, who'd been walking around without her Power Suit on, noticed the conversation. "Are you guys talking about the romantic enigma that is Angelo?" she asked them.
Daisy nodded. "Has he ever said a word to you, Samus?"
The bounty hunter shook her head. "Nothing other than a few minor things, like in battle. Stuff like, 'Good fight!' or 'That was fun!'"
Daisy sighed in exasperation. "I just don't understand how someone so…so…so–"
"Perfect?" Corrin, the female one, said with a dreamy sigh, leaning against the back of a couch as she joined their discussion.
None of the other girls argued with her. In fact, most of them agreed with the half-dragon.
Angelo was kind, smart, funny, friendly, competitive, feisty, creative, very good at battling, and altogether, too good to be true.
Too good to be alone.
"Maybe he's already had his heart broken in the past?" Wii Fit Trainer suggested, walking up to them.
Lucina shook her head. "I do not think he's ever been with any of us. What about you guys?"
All the other girls shook their heads.
"Maybe someone from his own dimension?" Zelda questioned, also joining their conversation. "Although I'm not sure if there is anyone like that from his dimension, seeing as how he's a Mii Fighter."
Byleth, the female one, passed by and started to smile as she approached. Then she noticed their expressions. She followed their gaze and saw Angelo mid-laugh after hearing something from Terry again. A frown took over her face then.
"So you are discussing the matter of Angelo's romantic situation, I take it?" she asked.
Pyra sighed. "Yeah. I think it's just baffling to us."
Corrin suddenly turned to Daisy. "Wait a minute. I thought you were with Luigi, Daisy."
The princess scoffed. "I dumped him. He's so scared of everything. Not the kind of guy I want. I want someone confident and brave, you know? Someone–"
"Like Angelo," Peach finished, walking up to them. She sat herself down next to Lucina.
The swordswoman frowned. "And what about you? What about Mario?"
The princess sighed. "I'm afraid we have chosen to go our separate ways. He's always been too forward with our relationship, and it just wasn't working out for me."
Mythra lowered her head, seemingly lost in thought. At that moment, something appeared in a flash of light in the midst of their group.
"Good morning, ladies!" Palutena said cheerfully as teleported in. When no one responded, she took note of their expressions and followed their gaze to Angelo.
"Ah, yes," she said. "He is a bit of a charmer, isn't he?"
Min Min snorted. "That's a huge understatement."
Roslina soon joined them as well. "Maybe it is…for the best. He seems…happy right now."
Bayonetta laughed as she walked up to them. "That is the corniest thing I've ever heard! Do you really believe that he's completely happy right now?"
No one else laughed. The fact that he was having such a good time talking to Terry was an answer in and of itself.
They all snapped to attention as Angelo stood and waved good-bye to Terry. Then he walked off.
"Where's he going?" Mythra asked.
Byleth snorted. "He's probably off to train with Meta Knight or someone else."
"He's always training. Doesn't he have anything better to do?" Daisy asked with barely contained frustration.
Lucina looked taken aback. "I can respect wanting to keep your sword skills…um–"
"Sharp?" Zelda said with a small smile.
Just then, Robin, the female one, walked up to their group with a big yawn, stretching her arms above her head.
"Ahhh, good morning, girls!" she said.
"Hey, Robin," Corrin greeted the tactician.
Immediately, Robin frowned. "Why are you all so down? Wait, don't tell me…It's Angelo, isn't it?"
The girls all mumbled their agreement.
She sighed. "Do not take this the wrong way, but do you all honestly believe he would be happy with one of you guys? This whole thing teeters on the border of obsession."
Peach shook her head. "Yes, but he is…he is…" he voice trailed off.
"He is perfect," Palutena finished. "Too perfect to not be with someone."
Rosalina sighed and acquired a dreamy look in her eyes. "If only he would notice us…"
Mythra laughed, then quickly covered her mouth. "I'm sorry, but I'm surprised he hasn't noticed me or Pyra. You've seen all the other guys, right? They stare, and it's not in the eyes. Angelo, on the other hand, seems to accept us for who we are on the inside," she said. "I'd almost prefer it if he stared, if it meant he'd actually look at me for once."
Pyra nodded in agreement. "I imagine that would get old and annoying pretty fast, however."
Mythra paused. "Okay, maybe you're right."
Daisy put a hand to her chin. "Just think. If he were to be with one of us, who would it be? Because I have no idea."
"How about a contest?"
All eyes turned to Samus.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Bayonetta asked her.
A mischievous smile blossomed on the bounty hunter's face. "If we're so sure that Angelo is meant to be with one of us, why don't we prove it? Let's see who can be the one to get Angelo to love them."
It was a crazy plan, a far-fetched wager.
And yet, the mental gears of all the girls began to turn.
Except for Robin.
"You cannot be serious!" the tactician exclaimed. "Angelo is not some prize to be fought over! He's a living, breathing person!"
Min Min frowned. "Why? You don't wanna join us?" she asked the other Fighter.
Robin huffed. "Never in a million years. I am already happily married to Chrom, and I would like to keep it that way. And Zelda, aren't you with Link? Surely, you wouldn't dream of going after Angelo as well!"
Zelda gave her a sad smile. "I had to break up with Link. I…guess you could say that the 'strong and silent type' isn't exactly my type. It just wasn't working out between us."
Robin spluttered. "But…Surely…You all cannot be thinking about going through with this!"
And yet she was wrong. For once, dead wrong. A competitive edge seemed to shine in every pair of eyes present.
Daisy crossed her arms. "Wait. Every bet has losers. What happens to the losers?"
No one seemed to have any good suggestions. Then, Peach raised her hand.
"The losers have to spend a week inside Brinstar."
The entire group seemed to shudder at the same time. Brinstar was a decent stage to fight on, but to stay for a week? The smell alone was enough to make anyone's insides want to come out, even Wario.
"I hate that idea," Samus said. "Let's do it."
"Anyone else object?" Corrin called.
The other girls all shifted, but no one said a word.
Robin was red in the face. "This…ridiculous venture of yours will only end in disaster. Heartbreak, even. I do not recommend going through with this."
They didn't seem to hear her. With the wager settled, the girls now only had one target in mind: Angelo's heart.
"Alright, whoever is the first to win Angelo's love wins!" Lucina stated, standing up.
"May the best girl win," Daisy said with a nod.
Just then, Leaf wandered up to their group. She noted them all with a suspicious expression. "What are you guys talking about?" she asked.
The other girls looked at Leaf, a child, then thought about Angelo, a grown adult.
They laughed.
Oh. My. Goodness.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to write for such a large group of characters? You have to make sure you separate all their personalities and dialogue so it doesn't get confusing, not to mention that you have to make sure you don't overuse or underuse a specific character.
Nevertheless, this story is really fun to write. Poor Angelo. He has no idea what's coming to him
