The Summoning Spell is a Jerk

Louise's familiars across so many stories can be powerful, strange, or mysterious! But what of those times when a roll of the dice goes bad, when the Void itself lacks common sense or is just apathetic? This is a collection of oneshots dedicated to the worst possible familiars that any Louise could ever have. (Feel free to use any of them for your own stories, if you wish.)

1. Boom

Louise trembled. This was her last chance. "Pentagon of the five elements, bring forth my familiar!"

Silence. A long silence. Louise could feel the spell searching, testing, seeking a perfect match for her.

The crowd started muttering as seconds went by. Kirche in particular leaned down towards Tabitha. "What is she waiting for? She tried the spell three times. If it failed, she'd be screeching about it. Is it working…?"

Tabitha's eyes narrowed.

Louise could sense the spell looking, discarding what would be perfectly good familiars. A dragon passed by and Louise would've cried out if the spell wasn't taking all of her energy. Creatures big and small, common and rare. And Louise began to realize that the spell, the Void, was pushing past them with intent.

A bright and shining hope began filling her. It wasn't that these creatures were too good for her, it was that they were unworthy of her. Her familiar was to be something far greater than a glorified flying lizard or a fancy chimera.

Every creature of this world was analyzed and discarded. Another world opened up, and the spell began searching anew. And as soon as it discarded every creature of this new world, it opened another. And another.

At this point, the audience had become restless. Someone jeered, but was immediately reprimanded by Colbert. Louise would have laughed if she could. They were here to witness her ascendancy. From this day on, she would be the Zero no more.

Finally, in the midst of what seemed to be a ball of fire, the spell found something. There was a violent wrenching in the fabric of reality, and then a large blast of air as her new familiar materialized in the spell circle. For a moment, Louise could see its form: humanoid, with pitch-black skin, claws, and wings.

And then it exploded, vaporizing the entire school. Louise died without ever knowing what hit her.

A/N: Louise summons Ash Beast from Worm. Because the perfect match for someone who continually makes explosions is a being that continually produces explosions. Of course, the minimum safe distance from Ash Beast is… farther than ten feet. Welp, guess Halkegenia is doomed.
