A/N:

So, is anyone interested in a crossover between an old sitcom and a slightly obscure show from Thailand? If you are, welcome, you have very niche tastes.

For anyone not familiar with Saved by the Bell, I would recommend checking out the "Zack Morris is Trash" YouTube series by Funny or Die before reading. The episodes are short and hilarious. You don't have to be familiar with Saved by the Bell to enjoy this story, but it will help some; the fic will make a few references to events from the show, most or all of which are also referenced in Zack Morris is Trash. Again though, it's not necessary if you're really only here for the "Girl from Nowhere" side of things.

For anyone not familiar with Girl from Nowhere, no worries. It's an anthology series in season 1, and the story from season 2 won't have anything to do with this fic. So as an anthology series, you really don't need to have seen it before, you can just jump right in. That said, I'd recommend finding the show's theme song on YouTube before reading, as it's really good and sets the mood; I never skipped it when watching the show.

Disclaimer: I don't own Girl from Nowhere or Saved by the Bell (or Zack Morris is Trash for that matter.)

คบคนพาล พาลไปหาผิด คบบัณฑิต บัณฑิตพาไปหาผล

If you have bad friends, they lead you to bad. If you have wise friends, they lead you to good. –Thai proverb.

In school, you learn about math, science, history, language, and about other people. What they expect from each other, how their personalities interact, and how they make friends, enemies, and lovers. School is supposed to fashion children into useful members of a society. But what if a student cannot learn, or doesn't want to? What if they are taught the same lessons over and over again, but they never learn a thing? Maybe then a student gets a failing grade at being human.

Chapter 1: Foreign Exchange

"Money, the source of all good in the world." Zack Morris smirked, leafing through a fat stack of mostly one dollar bills.

Zack opened his locker and put away his hard-earned cash, along with all the bogus doctor's notes he hadn't managed to sell yet.

"Nerds are my best customers, hands down. Nobody wants them on their team in gym class, and they don't want to go to gym class at all. Could there be a more honest business?" Zack asked with a charming smile.

"Careful Zack, you're coming awfully close to impersonating a doctor." His friend Jessie warned him, and Zack jumped, he hadn't known she was there. Yes, he had been talking to himself, what of it?

"Knowing Preppy it's only a matter of time until he tries that for real." Smirked his friend/rival, A.C. Slater.

"Relax Jessie, there's actually a very good reason I'm selling these doctor's notes." Zack assured her.

"Oh, and what's that Zack?" She asked, in a tone that clearly suggested she was only humoring him. It was a familiar tone coming from her.

"Well, we eat out at the Max like, every day, and my allowance doesn't cover those kinds of expenses."

"That's actually not a bad point." Slater muttered.

"Have you considered getting an actual job Zack?" Jessie pressed.

Zack broke out into laughter at that absurd suggestion, and even Slater joined in, because the thought of Zack doing an honest day's work if he didn't have to was just too funny.

Jessie rolled her eyes and walked off.

At the ring of the school's bell, Zack parted ways with Slater and made his way up the staircase, heading to his first class, maneuvering himself to walk just beneath a couple of cute girls wearing jeans that they looked so good in. "Well," Zack admitted, amending his earlier statement, "maybe money isn't the sole source of good in the world." He finished the self-satisfied monologue he had started earlier with another smirk and a playful wag of his eyebrows.

Zack entered his science class and sat in his seat carefully positioned near a couple of nerds, including his minion… ah, best friend, Screech. Not only were nerds his best customers when he was selling passes to get out of gym class, but they were also the only students worth copying off of. Though Zack would copy off of pretty much anyone in a pinch. Any port in a storm, right? Anyway, it was always great if you could find a seat with at least one nerd nearby you, and with a pretty girl on your other side.

Zack relaxed in his seat, prepared to studiously ignore his dorky science teacher, but class didn't start quite the way it usually did.

"Good morning everyone!" Dr. Mertz smiled. He seemed as cheerful as ever, which was impressive considering he had a doctorate degree and yet he was teaching a high school science class. "I have a bit of a surprise for you today. We have a new foreign exchange student starting with us, coming all the way from Thailand. Come in and introduce yourself dear!"

"Thailand?" Zack asked Screech.

"A country in Southeast Asia." Screech whispered back.

Zack smiled. In his experience, Asians weren't very sporty. Maybe the kid would be willing to buy a get-out-of-gym-for-eight-bucks pass.

All thoughts of making eight bucks flew out of Zack's head when the new student walked in, heading up to the front of the classroom. Zack's mouth fell open. The new girl was a solid ten on the babe-o-meter.

"Hello, I'm Nanno" the new girl introduced herself sweetly. "Nice to meet you."

"Damn I love this school" Zack muttered, before putting on his most charming grin, one filled with perfect, pearly white teeth. Today was shaping up to be a very good day indeed. Zack gave Nanno a smile, but because he surrounded himself mostly with nerds to cheat off of, there was unfortunately nowhere near him for Nanno to sit, so he'd have to wait until after class to introduce himself.

Science class dragged on, and by the time it was over, Zack was eager to introduce himself to Nanno. Sadly, she was closer to the door than him. Zack tried to push through the crowd, but his idiot classmates kept getting in his way, and all Zack could see of Nanno was the back of her head as she moved further and further away from him. Zack made it out into the hallway and caught a glimpse of long, jet black hair. He tried again to make his way through the crowd to her, but he never could seem to catch up to her, and after a little she seemed to disappear into the crowd, and Zack couldn't find her again. Zack pouted in frustration.

"Hey Zack" Kelly greeted, and Zack's frustration melted away.

"Hey Kelly, good to see you." Zack smiled, eyeing her up and down. For once Zack was being honest, it literally was good to see Kelly Kapowski, the kindest, most popular, hottest girl in school. Kelly was one of Zack's closest friends, and although he had blown it with her in the past, if he had it his way, they'd be more than friends again soon.

"That was some class huh? Honestly, I'm afraid I'm starting to fall behind in science, and we've got that big test Friday too." Kelly shared worriedly.

"Oh? I think I can help you out if you want." Zack offered, not letting on that he had no idea they had a test coming up.

"I don't need a cheat sheet Zack, and I just need some help understanding some of the material. Physics is just a little tough is all."

"Now, now, who said anything about cheat sheets?" Zack denied, mentally discarding plan A and going with plan B. "I was going to offer to help you study, if you can come over to my place tonight."

Kelly smiled wryly. "Thanks but no thanks Zack. Don't think I haven't noticed that studying isn't high on your to-do list whenever I come over to, you know, study." Kelly giggled.

Zack thought about trying to convince her that he had changed, but even he knew you could only try the same trick so many times. Plus, if she came over and actually expected to study, he was screwed. And besides, he had plans with the new girl, even if she didn't know it yet.

"I might not be the best studier" Zack shrugged. "I can ask Screech to help you out. I'm pretty sure he knows more science than our teacher does."

Kelly frowned, remembering the last time Screech had tutored her. Things had gone well, a little too well even. She had ended up practically dating Screech, before he broke things off. She felt a little annoyed that Zack either had forgotten all about that or just didn't care enough to be more sensitive. On the other hand, she certainly knew how effective a tutor Screech was, so she agreed as long as Screech was ok with it.

And that out of the way, Zack was back on the hunt.

Lunchbox in hand, Jessie entered the cafeteria along with her friend Lisa. The two were heading to their usual seats, when they saw the new girl, Nanno, sitting by herself at a table near to where they usually sat. Jessie gave Lisa a nudge and glanced Nanno's way, and the two of them headed over to meet her. Jessie felt it was her duty to check in on the girl, since she was class president ever since her oldest friend, Zack Morris, turned over the position to her, though only after beating her in the class election by running a neo-fascist campaign. Besides, Bayside High rarely received foreign exchange students, and never one from Thailand, so Jessie was curious.

"Sawasdee kha" Jessie greeted the girl.

"Sawasdee kha" the girl greeted in return with a smile. "It's kind of you to greet me in my own language. I'm Nanno, nice to meet you!"

"I'm Jessie, and this is Lisa. Do you mind if we sit down?"

"Not at all. Most people seem a little shy about coming to meet me, like they're a little intimidated. I feel the same way though, this being my first day of school in America."

Lisa interjected "You know in America we don't have school uniforms, not in public school anyways. It kind of looks like your dressed in a uniform from your old school or something." She said, eyeing Nanno's white dress shirt and black skirt.

Nanno laughed a little. "This isn't actually the uniform of any school in particular, but it is similar to what school uniforms in Thailand typically look like. I guess it made coming to this new school more comfortable to me. Besides, I don't really know anything about American fashion." She smiled self-deprecatingly.

Lisa's eyes practically lit up with a light of their own. "Today's your lucky day new girl! If you want to know about American fashion, all's you have to do is talk to me, I'll tell you everything you want to know."

"Everything she wants to know and then some" Jessie joked, and Lisa rolled her eyes, but continued on undeterred.

"We should meet up after school, put a little color in your wardrobe." She offered.

"I'd like that, thank you so much." Nanno agreed, a look of happiness and slight relief on her face.

"And I can show you around Bayside." Jessie joined in. "As class president, I'm happy to help out new students. I can show you the library, some good places to eat… and I can let you know who's trouble." She added, gesturing to Zack Morris as he came into the cafeteria, and earning a chuckle from Lisa.

"That little guy? He doesn't look like he would hurt a fly." Nanno said, confused.

Jessie and Lisa were confused for a moment too, before they realized Nanno was referring to Zack's geeky shadow, Screech.

"Not that clueless gremlin" Lisa rolled her eyes again. Screech was an old friend of hers, but his constantly asking her out on dates over the past few years had exhausted what little patience she had. It didn't help that she was about as attracted to him as Frosty the Snowman was to the Gobi Desert.

"No" she continued "Jessie means the blonde troublemaker beside him."

"Careful around him" Jessie warned. But Nanno had a look of mild interest in her eyes.

"I don't know" she mused, lifting a finger to twirl her hair. "Even if he's trouble, he might be worth it."

Jessie shook her head, now suspecting she was talking to Zack's next fling. The latest in a long line.

"Well, don't say I didn't warn you. By the way, your English is really good. You even said Screech wouldn't hurt a fly; that was an appropriate use of an English idiom. You're very good." Jessie complimented.

Nanno smiled a little mysteriously this time. "Thank you, I've been practicing English for quite a long time now."

By now Zack had gotten his lunch, and he made a beeline for the girls. Now in addition to Screech, their friends Kelly and A.C. Slater had joined him, and they all sat down at the table. Introductions were made.

"So Nanno" Zack said when introductions were out of the way, speaking sympathetically. "It must be a little confusing, suddenly being in a whole new country right? Luckily for you, I know the USA like the back of my hand. I could pencil you in after school if you need someone to show you around." Zack offered, speaking a little slowly, as though Nanno was maybe still struggling with English.

"That's very kind of you" Nanno smiled shyly "But actually the three of us already made plans to go shopping after school, and Jessie here will be showing me around."

"Besides" Jessie intervened "Don't you have track and field after school today Zack?"

Zack opted to pretend he had forgotten about that, rather than let on that he had been planning to blow it off so he could take his chances with the new girl. "Oh man" Zack frowned "I totally spaced on that. Sorry, I guess you'll just have to make do with Jessie." He said sympathetically.

Jessie rolled her eyes, and no one except Nanno looked like they bought Zack's story of forgetting track and field, but Zack wasn't finished yet.

"Well, maybe another day then. Jessie's alright, but if you really want to have fun around here, I'm your guy." Zack smirked. A little arrogant charm never hurt with the ladies, and besides, he really was, in his own opinion, the only one here who really knew how to have fun.

"Sure" Nanno agreed mildly "Maybe I can hang out with you guys on the weekend, if that's alright?"

The others agreed readily, while Zack pouted internally, realizing the girl had evaded his offer to hang out exclusively with Zack.

A.C. Slater smiled watching Zack fail to secure a date. But if Zack wanted to ask out other girls right in front of Kelly, who was Slater to let that opportunity pass by?

"Hey Kelly, while we're all making plans, how about you and me go to the movies tonight. There's a new Robin Hood movie in theaters, looks pretty cool."

"Sorry Slater" Kelly said, "I'm behind in science class, there's a big test coming up, and Screech offered to tutor me tonight."

Slater tuned out Screech's subsequent enthusiastic ramblings about science junk. Turned down for a study date with Screech? Slater didn't want to be mean to poor Screech, but privately he admitted that one stung. And judging by Zack's smirk, Zack knew it too. Before he could say something about the last time Kelly and Screech studied together and make an ass out of himself, Slater caught himself and reigned it in. Kelly cared about her grades, there was no need to be a jerk about it.

The group conversed throughout the rest of lunch, Zack trying and failing to flirt with Nanno, who was polite enough but seemingly not interested. Jessie raised an eyebrow at one point, feeling curious. Nanno had seemed interested enough when she first saw Zack come in, was she playing hard to get now? Or maybe she had just lost interest when Zack opened his mouth; Zack could be a bit of a bottom feeder, so Jessie wouldn't blame Nanno for changing her mind about him. It would be smart of her, even. The bell rang, and Jessie gave up pondering about it and refocused on what really mattered in life, her studies.
