Chapter 01

A/N: Welcome to my Yu-Gi-Oh story, Parallel. I'm not sure of an upload schedule yet, but I know at least one chapter will be uploaded every Wednesday, like my other stories. Here we're mostly following the English anime version of Yu-Gi-Oh, although there will be tiny references to the Japanese anime and manga. It's a fully completed story, so you don't have to worry about it not being completed/updated unless I stop uploading for whatever reason. Most of the chapters are short, less than 1000 words, as a writing practice exercise for myself, so if you like stories with short chapters, this one is for you.

The plotline of this story has been written down in full since 2018. I decided to finally write it. Apparently coming up with a plotline, not starting to write it until half a decade later and not posting it for anyone else to read another half a decade later is my thing. -shrugs-

I hope you enjoy this variation of the Original Yu-Gi-Oh gang's story. Without further ado, let's get started.

. . . . .

Domino High School somehow managed to be both a peaceful, yet annoying place. Except for today. Seto pushed his thick glasses up on his nose, even though they hadn't needed to be adjusted. Joseph Wheeler and Tristan Taylor were both disrupting him from reading his book. It wasn't any of his business, but why did Tea Gardner have to be late this morning? An even better question was, why did they have to be so early alongside him? Not that it was any of his business, but who came to school early just to play a game by themselves?

His words caught in his throat, wanting to voice these concerns and questions aloud for a strange reason he couldn't discern. He ducked his head, went back to his book, and pretended Yugi Moto did not just climb on top of the desk in an effort to get his precious, incomplete, golden, 3D Pyramid puzzle back from Joseph Wheeler.

Two shouts in rapid succession. Two yelps. One from Joseph, and the other from Tristan Taylor. He should have read outside this morning. He didn't look up. It wasn't any of his business.

"What the fuck, man!?" Joseph yelled with a muffled voice.

"Don't take things that aren't yours, you dipshit!" Yugi Moto sounded quite upset.

He would be too, if someone had taken something of his, but he didn't know if he'd be willing to go that far for it. Noah would just get him another if he asked nicely. He ducked his head lower. Probably.

"Now fuck off already, or I'll pop you again!"

"Dude, wait!" Tristan sounded quite alarmed.

He looked up, just in time to see Yugi Moto forget he was standing on a desk. He walked right off and tumbled. He mostly caught himself as he fell, but it wasn't enough to stop him from smacking his face into the desk in front of him. The box he retrieved, and the pieces of the puzzle clattered and scattered all over the classroom floor around them.

He had to give him props, or at least Noah would. Yugi gasped like he was going to scream once he landed on the ground, but clamped his mouth shut instead. Tea was not going to be happy to see that splotch of blood on her desk. Blood? He looked back down again. Nope. Not dealing with that. Back to the book.

Yugi curled up on himself and around what was completed of his puzzle. He nursed his forehead and nose. Tristan and Joseph freaked out around him, suddenly trying to help. He tuned them out. Footsteps and then...

"Hey, bookworm! Mitsura!" Joseph's hands slammed on his desk.

He wasn't going to look up again, but everyone insisted on calling him 'Kaiba', when he kept asking them to call him 'Mitsura'. Ironically, Joseph, Tristan and Yugi were a few classmates who actually did call him 'Mitsura'.

"Yes?" He lowered his book, partially closing it as he set it on his desk, using his finger to mark his page.

"You're gonna do us a favor." Joseph leaned in close in an effort to look threatening. The way his eyes widened, and his frown belied his calm however.

And that's how he wound up escorting Yugi to the nurses office at 7AM on a Tuesday morning. All he had wanted to do was read his book, but apparently that was too much to ask for. He could have gotten away without helping, but then Tristan and Joseph would have turned on him. Noah would be proud, maybe his step-father, but it would bring more trouble and worry than it was worth.

The nurse let him sit outside, because he wasn't a fan of blood. He opened up his book again, and got to reading. As a neutral third party, the principal and nurse would expect him to explain what happened. He wasn't sure why that was necessary. Everyone knew there was currently a three way between Joseph, Yugi and some nobody named Ushio. Somehow, Yugi was winning. He supposed Yugi had much more to lose than them in some way.

A shadow covered him. He continued reading. "What is it, Joseph?"

"Call me Joey."

He looked up.

Joseph...Joey was holding Yugi's puzzle box, lid included. He looked awfully serious for someone who started the altercation. "Could you give this to him when he comes out?"

Words died in his mouth. 'You could always give it to him yourself.' He closed his eyes, and took the box from him.

"Thanks." Joseph...Joey turned right back around and walked away without another word.

He peeked inside the heavy golden box. 'Hm, wasn't he almost finished...?' He closed the lid, and switched the places of it and his book. Wasn't his problem. Back to reading.
