Standing on the roof of the rebuilt apartment building across the street from the Eiffel Tower, Ladybug tapped her chin, her eyes narrowed in concentration, scanning the Champ de Mars, taking in the large pavilion tents being erected on the plaza between two of the tower legs. In the distance, she could just make out their wedding planner, Solenne, standing next to one of the workers and watching them secure the tarp in place. Marinette had strongly considered handling all the wedding details herself – she had been planning it in her head for the last four years, after all. In the end, however, her mother and Emilie had both insisted that she hire a planner. She was busy enough as it was, between the Heroes of Paris, Agreste, the Charity, her family… she couldn't overwork herself. They had more than enough of a budget to hire a good planner. And this way, she could just worry about the Heroes of Paris, about the security for the event.
Hopefully, there was going to be enough security.
Ladybug sighed heavily, watching the workmen put the final touches on the main pavilion. Rose and Juleka stood outside the pavilion, tapping their feet while the workmen finished. Beside Ladybug, Majestia stood with her arms folded, giving her a deadpan look. On her other side, Lupa Gris watched Ladybug, her expression a mix of fond and amused. Finally, Ladybug nodded. "This is the best place to set up," she announced to the other two. "Espina will have a clear view of everything in the park, and be able to coordinate with the others."
Lupa Gris shrugged. "I will let her know. I came out here the other day with Coyotemaria and Velocimonio to figure out the best place for them to set up. I decided the best place for them would be on the other side of the park, in that alleyway between those two buildings," she told Ladybug, pointing. "If anything happens, Velocimonio will get you and Cat Noir away to somewhere that you can transform."
"If we don't get there first," Majestia replied, raising an eyebrow in a challenge. "We'll be right there, after all."
"In that case, perhaps he can give you a head start!"
Ladybug's stomach clenched, the butterflies in her stomach leaping in anticipation. Only another day and she and Adrien would be married – formally, in front of their friends and family. Just one more day of the stress and excitement and anticipation, before all the hard work would be over. Yes, they were already married – or Ladybug and Cat Noir were already married – but this still felt so… different. This time, her father would be there to give her away. Her mother and Emilie would be there, sitting in the front row, wearing the dresses that Marinette had spent the last year designing for them. Even if she'd had to bring her mother's dress in for alterations last week to make room for the baby. Ladybug felt warmth in her chest at that thought. That might have been the most shocking news to come out of their time in Angola. She was going to have a baby brother or sister, one who would grow up in a world without Hawk Moth, without the Tarasque, without Killer Bee, maybe even without Night Bat. After spending the last four years of her life fighting against supervillains, she could hardly bring herself to imagine what it would be like, to grow up without any of them. But that was the world she wanted for her little brother or sister. That was the world she wanted her own child to grow up in.
But it still wasn't here. There were still enemies around, villains who might try to ruin the "biggest wedding in Paris," at least according to le Parisien.
"My people are going to focus on the perimeter," Lupa Gris assured Majestia. "But Velocimonio is the one with the speed to get our guests of honor – or hosts, rather – to a place where they can transform. Unless you are planning to bring Mercury in to do that."
Majestia frowned. "We have considered it," she admitted, "though we do not have an invitation for him."
Ladybug shrugged. "If we think it's necessary, we can get him an invitation – I don't think my mother's second cousin Feng is actually planning to attend. Although I am nervous about having too many people at the reception that Adrien and I don't actually know personally. What happens when someone asks us about him? Or when someone asks him about us?"
"Are you saying you actually know everyone on the guest list?" Lupa Gris teased her, smirking.
Ladybug raised an eyebrow. "Are you going to quiz me?" Lupa Gris arched an eyebrow in invitation. Turning to Pegasus, Ladybug instructed him, "Bring up the guest list."
He furrowed his eyebrows. "Is that really the wisest course of action, for Ladybug, Majestia, and Lupa Gris, to be reviewing the civilian guest list for the Agreste wedding in the middle of Paris?"
Ladybug hummed.
"Probably not," Majestia allowed.
Lupa Gris rolled her eyes. "You Heroes of Paris are so secretive."
Ladybug sighed. "Fine." Turning to Majestia she added, "Maybe I don't know everyone, but they should all be able to say they know me."
"No, that's fine with me," Majestia assured her. "I'm just glad you managed to get an invitation for Knightowl and me!"
Ladybug stifled a laugh. "How could I leave out my friend's android son's best friend's parents?"
"How indeed?" Pegasus mused wryly, quirking an eyebrow at Ladybug.
"So, my team will set up around the perimeter," Lupa Gris continued. "Espina will be in charge of that group."
Majestia glanced down to where the large tent was being erected. "With the number of heroes that will be there, I doubt we'll have any problems – but if there is a problem of some variety, you're not going to transform in the middle of your own wedding, Bug."
Ladybug hummed wryly. "I make no promises." Turning to Pegasus she added, "And we're good to go with the drones?"
Pegasus nodded. "Affirmative. Turing will have them programmed to stay out of sight – all except two, which I designed off of a commercial chassis. They will stay close by and take pictures of the reception."
Ladybug nodded. "Good. I–"
"There you are!"
Ladybug spun around in shock as Rena Rouge landed on the roof behind them, her hands planted on her hips. "What are you doing here?"
"Looking for the bride, obviously," Rena Rouge retorted, exasperated. "You should be at your parents' house, hanging out with the rest of the girls and getting ready for tomorrow!"
"I was just making sure–"
"–that the wedding would be safer than the Pope's visit," Rena Rouge finished, rolling her eyes. "It's going to be fine, girl. Literally the only supervillain who would have cared to interrupt your wedding was Lila fucking Rossi, and she's in jail now. It's going to be fine!"
"That's what we've been trying to tell her…" Lupa Gris interjected, raising an eyebrow at Ladybug expectantly.
Rena Rouge placed a hand on Ladybug's shoulder. "Now come on, girl. Tomorrow is your big day. You should actually be able to enjoy it!"
Ladybug resisted for a moment, looking back down toward the pavilions that had been fully set up. Strings of lights decorated the outside of the tarps, glimmering and glinting in the last afternoon sun. There was still so much left to be done, so much to worry about. But as Rena Rouge tugged on her arm, she allowed herself to breathe, slowly and deeply, and relaxed. She didn't need to drive herself to distraction to worry about this; she had friends who could help her out. And tomorrow, all of this would be over. Finally, she nodded in acceptance. "Fine," she agreed. "But there had better be tea there!"
