Watershed…Anew….

Notes Part 1: This story is based on my first solo Smallville story of mine called Watershed. I've really wanted to go back over the years and revise it. It is a post-eppie for Red. For its twentieth anniversary, I wanted to recraft it and add some stuff. (Okay I added a LOT of stuff.) The comments, both positive and negative in Sweet and , were really helpful so thank you. By the way, I'm treating Clark and Kal as two different personas. Consequently, they don't necessarily share memories.

Notes Part 2: Smallville belongs to DC and the CW. Miranda and her family are my characters. Please send comments to dante0220 .

Introduction

Jor-El, Last Guardian Spirit of Krypton, laments….

In Krypton's last days, I discovered our society's impending doom. Alas, Disaster beat against our door. I had little choice. I could not save Lara or myself. Time permitted me to build a Ship large enough for one small passenger to brave the void. We placed Kal-El in the craft with Hope and Love to guide him. We launched him away just as the Floor gave way and Death claimed us.

Faith in what I had seen during my own trial in Smallville forty years earlier. Primitive Thinking still ruled Earth culture. Still, in Hiram Kent, I saw a good man. Louise's inspiration goes without saying. Even as I care for Lara, she and I knew my heart belonged to Louise. I thought, as my father and other Kryptonians before us did, the Earth Foster Experience would teach appreciation to our children. The Kents found Kal-El as I intended. What they did, however, overstepped their prerogative. They raised him as…human. Frailty instead of Strength instilled in Kal-El. This I did not plan for. I made that point another half of a solar cycle later.

On Krypton, we know how different shades of Kryptonite affect our physiology. Green makes us sick and will eventually kill us. Blue acts akin to Rao on us. Gold takes away any abilities granted by the Yellow Sun. Pink, on the other hand, can grant Kryptonian physiology onto any other race. Purple can strip away Green's fatal effects. Rumor has it that purple can also transfer life force from one body to another. And, as you all know, Red acts on us much as the Nicodemus flower does on Earthers. Inhibitions are released. For a Kryptonian under Yellow Sun, it is very dangerous. Kal-El in Earthbound Ignorance put such a ring on. Jonathan Kent in Earthbound Ignorance goaded Kal-El to wear it. Disaster and Exposure were inevitable.

Now that the ring is gone, Kal-El tries to return to his 'Earther Life'. His emotions' lead cloak weigh down on him. He pines like a human. Rather than take on Responsibility's lead like one of the House of El, he cringes. What a disappointment. The others around him pin blame.

May they all work to a solution. This account shows how an attempt was made….
