Hello to all! Welcome to the new story. A few things: first, we wanted to mention Kit (Christopher) is NOT named after Chris Colfer. As we mention later, he is named after Finn's dad. We are thinking this will be around 18 chapters, but it may be a few more or less. We will let everyone know when we find out. As for warnings, specific warnings will be posted in the individual chapters, but this story will include explicit sexual content. Furthermore, we will use themes of kink and BDSM (elements include but are not limited to: bondage, breathplay, kinks, food play, spanking, degradation kink, come play, and orgasm denial. There will be no blood play, extreme pain, edge play other than mild choking, or anything too extreme.) Later in the story, there will be discussion of abuse endured by main characters. If any of these things bother you or you think it's not for you, please consider another story. You can send us a message if you are concerned and we can explain further. The title of our story/chapters comes from the Adam Lambert album Velvet (is anyone surprised? Lol) Highly recommend.

We just focus on Kurt this first chapter, but we pick up with Blaine next time! Please feel free to give us your thoughts/feelings. Feel free to follow us on Instagram (kandaklaine26) for bonus content/updates.

Warning: Finn's death is discussed in this chapter. Not graphic.

Okay, enough talking. We hope you enjoy! -A and K

"We are almost there, sweetie," Kurt said to the child strapped into the seat next to him as he brushed strands of blond hair to the side. The toddler whined impatiently and Kurt gave him a toy in hopes it would distract him long enough for them to arrive at their new home. It worked and he clutched it with his chubby little fingers to examine it further. Kurt smiled, his heart warming at the sight of the precious boy. He himself was momentarily distracted by the exciting sprawl of Los Angeles whirring by as the driver made another turn and they were going up the mountain. He might have spent too much on their new house, but the view was exquisite and if he was trading his home of New York for LA, then it better have a damn good view. At least that's how he justified it when he explained it to his dad.

Kurt glanced at his phone. No response from Rachel. She might have been mad he had left New York, but she hadn't spoken to him in months so he honestly had no idea. He looked down to the child next to him sadly. It sucked, but he understood. The boy looked at him with sparkling brown eyes, grinning happily. God, he could have been Finn's twin. He even had that same dopey smile. Kurt smiled back at him and kissed his tiny nose.

"What do you think, Kit? California could be fun!"

Kit just slobbered and showed off his tiny little teeth in response before mumbling something unintelligible. Kurt was choosing to believe Kit was trying to hold conversation. All the books said to talk to them as much as possible, so he did in hopes Kit would start talking soon. He said a few words, but Kurt worried he might be behind. Burt told him to relax and that Kit would talk when he was good and ready. Kurt didn't really stop worrying though. What if the trauma he faced early on in life had kept him from talking?

He remembered the day he got the call. Finn's voice had been strained and laden with anxiety.

"She says she's pregnant, Kurt! I don't know what to do! We had sex one time! And I know it was the real thing now before you say anything sarcastic. I know about sex now."

"Okay," Kurt had said, trying to calm down his stepbrother as he turned in his fancy chair in his office at Vogue. He had an important meeting in half an hour, but this was family. He could push it back if needed. "Slow down. Now, who is pregnant?"

"This girl I met at a frat party I went to with Puck! I was kind of drunk and so was she and I guess we did it without protection. It was a one time thing and honestly, I had forgotten her name, but she visited me at my dorm and told me she was pregnant!"

Kurt rubbed his face. Now wasn't the time for him to be judgmental. Finn needed help. He sounded close to tears. "She's completely sure it's yours? You don't think she's trying to lie to you?"

Finn sighed. "No, she's really nice and I believe her. Plus, right after that party she broke her leg and she said she hasn't slept with anyone since because she's self conscious about it. She brought me a sonogram…"

"Okay." Kurt wasn't sure he completely believed the story, but if it wasn't actually Finn's, the truth would come out. "So what are you going to do?"

Finn made a distraught noise. "See, that's the thing. She asked me that too. She said we could both chip in money to… Get rid of it… But… I don't know…"

"Finn?"

"It's my kid, Kurt."

Kurt blew out a deep breath. "Finn, you are a sweetheart, but you don't know that for sure. This is a really big deal! You're really young to be a father—"

"I know. I know… But back in high school, the whole deal with Quinn… it got me thinking about the next time it happened…"

"You're kind of making it hard to believe this was an accident…"

Finn ignored that. "I thought about it and I knew that if it happened again… Well, for real, that I wanted this. I know I'm young, but I can't explain it. When she told me, I just knew. It's like it's destiny."

"Not using a condom isn't destiny, it's just irresponsibility."

"Easy for a gay guy to say. You don't even have to use condoms!" Finn retorted.

Kurt tried to choke Finn through the phone. "Still have to use condoms, Finn. Do me a huge favor and research just a tiny bit before you say any more ignorant things."

"Kurt, dude, I really need your support on this. I still have to tell Mom and Burt and I'm scared."

In the end, Kurt did support him. Their parents did too, even if they weren't completely thrilled with the situation. They were worried that Finn would drop out of school where he was on track to become a teacher and have to work at the tire shop full time, but he promised he wouldn't. He decided to move back in with them and allow them to help out some.

The mother turned out to be a sweet girl named Felicity who agreed to have the baby with the conditions that Finn take full custody of the child and let her go back to her own life. Finn agreed and was surprisingly helpful through the whole thing.

Unfortunately, it seemed Felicity had a problem with alcoholism, so she ended up spending most of her pregnancy in rehab which Kurt was kind of glad for. After Kit was born, she stuck to her word and signed over her rights to Finn. Sadly, they found out a month later that she died of alcohol poisoning.

While Kurt had his doubts at first about Finn being Kit's father, once the child was in front of them, there were zero doubts. Carole whispered in tearful awe that it was as if she had traveled back in time and was holding an infant Finn again. He was named Christopher after Finn's father and Kurt after his step brother (he tried to name the baby Burt Kurt, but thankfully they convinced him otherwise. Burt gently told him that he would rather the honor go to his own father than him.)

Finn was an amazing father. He still worked at the tire shop and went to school, oftentimes while wearing his infant son. Burt even had a tiny pair of coveralls made with his name on them. He studied while feeding him a bottle, stayed up with him when he was sick, and taught him all his best Glee dance moves. There weren't many places that Finn went without his favorite sidekick.

Kurt adored being Kit's uncle. He flew in for the birth and sobbed when the tiny wiggly bundle was first placed in his arms. He became that guy who would torture random people in the elevator by showing them one of the hundreds of pictures of Kit on his phone. He sent the cutest little outfits he had bought or made that he insisted Finn dress him up in when they had their weekly FaceTime calls. And when they visited Kurt in New York or Kurt came to Ohio, he would immediately scoop the child up and only let him go when he was accused of hogging the baby.

He was loving his life: his dad and Carole were doing great health-wise, he was living out his dreams in New York, becoming a success in the fashion industry, dabbling in some entertainment, dating a nice guy, and his brother was finally happy with his own life. Kit was just the cherry at the very top.

However, like he had previously experienced, Kurt found that life was like a roller coaster. One minute he was working so hard, struggling to get to the top of the hill and then he was there, basking in the fact that he had made it so high. But then came the drop, stealing his breath as he plummeted down unexpectedly.

The accident was sudden. Finn was there one day, gone the next. Kurt still couldn't fathom the fact that his brother wasn't there anymore as he jumped on the first airplane he could and raced to Lima. The funeral was nice, but Kurt didn't care. He was too busy taking care of his nephew, making sure he was bathed and fed and changed and snuggled as he looked around curiously for his father and called out for him. It broke his heart every time. That had been the only positive to come from Finn's death; Kit wasn't with him when it happened and therefore was safe. Kurt pretty much felt like he was on autopilot through the whole ordeal in between raging at circumstances out of his control and bursting into bouts of uncontrollable crying. This lasted until about a week after the funeral when they went to read Finn's will.

Kurt was surprised that Finn had a will. He didn't think Finn would have made that a priority, but he did although there wasn't much he needed to put in there. They all four sat huddled in the lawyer's office on that rainy day, Burt with his arm wrapped securely around Carole who barely spoke in the days after the accident. Kurt and Burt both comforted her as much as they could, but they were hurting too and they all just needed to grieve. They were mainly concerned with what Finn had allotted financially for the care of his son and the three had agreed to put any of Finn's money aside for the boy when he was older. They had already gone through half of the will and all three had puffy, red eyes from crying. Kit sat balanced on Kurt's knee, chewing on a teething biscuit and gurgling softly. He was six months old.

"I leave the care of my son Christopher Kurt Hudson to my brother Kurt Elizabeth Hummel." The lawyer read monotonously as he had done with the rest of the will.

Kurt's head whipped up at that line as he interrupted what the lawyer said next.

"Excuse me, what did you just say?"

"Mr. Hudson left custody of the child to you, Mr. Hummel."

Kurt nearly dropped the burp cloth he was using to wipe Kit's face as he stared blankly at the lawyer.

"Wha- He... he left Kit to me? But I'm his uncle!"

Burt and Carole looked just as shocked as Kurt, having assumed they would be taking custody of Kit.

"Let me give you all a minute." The lawyer said delicately. "Oh, he wrote this letter for you, just in case. Just know that if you waive guardianship, the child can be placed with another family. His age would be a plus since most couples want to adopt early."

"No!" Kurt almost shouted. "He's not going into the system! I... I don't know what to do, but we can't..."

Burt reached over and grasped Kurt's arm. "Son, calm down. No one is taking Kit." He turned to the lawyer who nodded discreetly and slipped out the door. Kurt was shaking his head and clutching Kit close to his chest. Burt scooted towards him and pried his arms open. "Kurt, you need to let Kit go. You're about to squeeze him to death."

Kurt gasped and immediately let the fussing child be scooped into Carole's arms. She cuddled him close while Burt rubbed Kurt's back. "I need you to breathe, kid. Good. Now, did Finn ever mention anything about this to you?"

Kurt shook his head, still feeling bewildered and dizzy. "No! I mean, I remember him saying I would be a great dad someday, but he never said anything about this..." he trailed off, staring unseeingly at a plant in the corner.

Burt looked to Carole who shrugged as she rocked Kit gently. The baby was starting to fall asleep.

"Why don't you read the letter, kiddo. You don't have to read it out loud if you don't want to."

Kurt took a shuddering breath and ripped open the envelope, tears immediately filling his eyes at the familiar, blocky lettering. He sniffed and composed himself enough to read it out loud.

"Hey, dude. This is really weird writing this, but I guess it's necessary. I tried to get the lawyer to let me make a video where I spin around in a chair like in a spy movie and say, "if you see this, I'm already dead," but he said this would be better. Sorry about the joke, but I figured everyone would be really down and I wanted to cheer you guys up. Anyway, I know you're probably wondering why in the world I left Kit to you. Hopefully you won't ever have to read this and Kit will be super old before I kick the bucket, but just in case, I had to tell you that I wanted it to be you. I think Burt and Mom would be great parents (I mean, they did a great job with us haha), but I just feel like you would be the best choice for Kit. He loves you so much and when I think about who would raise him if I was gone, I feel peace knowing it would be you. I probably should have asked you first, but I know how you love surprises! That was supposed to be a joke too. So, the reason I chose you was because Kit needs a dad and he needs someone to teach him how to be a good, accepting person. You taught me that, and I want you to teach him. I know you have your own plans and dreams, but I know you also want kids someday. I'd be fine with that. I really hope that if something happens to me, you take him in. I never planned on becoming a dad so young, but from the moment I held Christopher, I knew there was no other choice. He owned my heart. I think that's why I know you were the best choice, because I know you felt it too. That day in the hospital, I saw your face. Then you told me about all the paperwork I needed to do and insurance and walked me through it all. You got me thinking about this and I knew you would be able to handle all the stuff I hadn't thought about. You're the right choice, dude. Thank you, Kurt. Not just for taking in Kit, but for being my brother and my family. Love, Finn."

Kurt was openly sobbing by the end, as well at Burt and Carole. He noticed another section on the next page that had Carole's name on it and he handed it to her wordlessly. It wasn't meant for him to read and he wasn't even sure he could handle it.

She took it and once she realized what it was, she folded in into a small square and tucked it away in her purse. "I can't right now… Not right now."

Burt and Kurt nodded in understanding.

They resumed the meeting once they had calmed down enough and the rest was read without anymore surprises. Before they left, Carole took Kit to go change his diaper and Burt pulled Kurt aside.

"Before you ask, I have no idea what I'm going to do," Kurt said as he rubbed his eyes, sore from all the crying. "I want to honor Finn's wishes, but I'm in no position to have a kid right now… I love Kit, I do, but with my job and Harry…"

"Kurt, hey, of course." He rested a comforting hand on Kurt's shoulder. Kurt held onto it for dear life. "Of course you need to think about this. It's a life changing thing. I remember when Finn was trying to figure out what to do when Kit's mother told him she was pregnant. It's a really difficult choice, no matter what. It's a huge responsibility and you need to be honest about whether you can handle it or not. So take this week. Think about it and think hard, for his sake and yours. Talk to your boyfriend. He might not be ready for this either. At the end of the week, if you still haven't decided, Carole and I will take him."

"But she's still so upset—"

"She is, but she's a strong person. She's been through a lot. This is her grandchild and I know she won't let anything happen to him. Kit will be taken care of, one way or another. You make the choice for you. I know it's what he wanted, but I want you to be sure. Okay?"

Kurt nodded, his eyes somehow filling with tears again. He thought he would have run out by this point.

In the end, it only took three days for Kurt to decide to take Kit. He really thought hard, but in the end he knew it was the right choice. It was what he wanted. It was what Finn wanted. There was still one problem though: his boyfriend Harry.

Kurt sat in the floor with Kit, toys spread out around him as he rolled a ball towards the baby. He predictably grabbed it in his chubby hands and tried to shove it in his mouth.

"So you'll be home Friday?" Harry asked.

"Saturday," Kurt replied as he shifted his phone to his other hand and watched Kit crawl towards a little stuffed monkey. "There has been a slight change of plans…"

"Okay." Harry sounded distracted. Kurt normally would ask what was going on, but he was kind of annoyed with his boyfriend. Truth be told, he wanted Harry to come with him, but the man said he was too busy with work and couldn't make it. It hurt, but Kurt tried to be understanding. He already had enough to deal with being a very busy lawyer.

"I wanted to talk to you about something."

Harry grunted in reply. Kurt rolled his eyes.

"So, we went to read Finn's will a few days ago and he left me something."

"Wow, I didn't think he had much money."

Kurt bit back a scathing reply. He loved Harry, but the guy was way too practical sometimes. "It's not money… Look, so you remember my nephew Kit?"

The baby looked up at his name and gurgled happily, drool dripping down his tiny chin. Kurt gently wiped his mouth with a burp cloth.

"Yeah…"

"So, how would you feel about him coming to live with us?

The silence was absolute. Kurt swallowed against his dry throat.

"I can convert my home office into a nursery and I'll get a nanny… I can afford it… You won't have to do anything! I know it's a lot, but I really want to—"

"Okay, okay. Wait, so you are bringing a baby home? Kurt, we can't…"

Kurt gnawed his lip. "I'm not asking you to do a lot! I know you have work. I do too, but it's going to be fine! You have to meet him! He's just the cutest—"

"Kurt. No. I'm sorry, but no."

"I thought you wanted kids?" Kurt tried. "He's a really good baby!"

"I do, but not right now! Not at the end of the week! It's really unfair of you to just dump this on me without even talking to me first."

"We're talking now…"

"No, you've clearly already decided. Look, I love you, but I can't do this. I'm not ready. I know this whole thing has been hard on you and I don't want to hurt you right now, but I can't do it."

Kurt blinked his tears away. "Are you breaking up with me?"

"You are kind of breaking up with me."

There wasn't much to say after that. Kurt thought maybe Harry would change his mind and wouldn't move out like he threatened. Once he saw Kit and fell in love with him, he would change his mind. Except that he didn't. Kurt moved his nephew into his apartment that was cleared of Harry's things the next week and spent the next few weeks crying himself to sleep.

It was a difficult adjustment, going from only worrying about himself and his own needs to suddenly having a tiny person to take care of. The transition was far from seamless, but they made it and a few months later things were better.

They all missed Finn, but they bonded closer than ever and soon Kurt's old life seemed like a dream. He didn't regret his decision to adopt Kit, but he did miss his freedom and he was incredibly lonely.

His dad and Carole kept up with him and Kit of course, but they were in Ohio and still grieving.

Kurt really didn't consider anyone at Vogue where he worked a friend and most of them couldn't relate to his situation at all.

Rachel had pretty much fallen off the map completely. Part of him understood because of Finn, but another part of him was kind of upset with her abandoning him in his time of need. She hadn't come to the funeral and had only seen a picture of Kit once. Kurt figured it was just too hard for her.

Mercedes and even Santana checked in from where they were working on an album together in LA, but phone calls could only do so much.

He missed Harry terribly, but he knew it was for the best. This was the direction his life was going and if he was unwilling to even try, Kurt didn't need him.

Which led to a scary new adventure: dating as a young, single, gay dad.

Kurt tried the apps. People were either looking for hookups, uninterested in someone who had a kid at twenty-four, or were just downright creepy. He wanted a movie-worthy meet cute anyway, or a storybook whirlwind romance, not something as simple as meeting online.

He tried networking and bars. Maybe he was too off his game since he hadn't dated in so long or maybe he was exhausted from being up all night with a teething baby and working full time or maybe it was because he was having more conversations with his nephew-turned-son's stuffed animals than actual adults. He had zero luck.

After one such night where he was pretty brutally rejected, Kurt trudged home and crawled into his empty bed. He lay in the dark, tears streaming down his face as he told himself he would be alone forever. By the time Kit graduated and went off to college, he would be too old to find love. (Kurt was definitely feeling sorry for himself and being a tad dramatic, but he had some to drink and really had gotten his feelings hurt.)

Just as he was about to cry himself to sleep, a cry echoed over the baby monitor that rested on Kurt's nightstand. He went to the child, the sight of the sweet boy making his heart flip and feel a little better. He picked up Kit, wiped his tears away, and pointed at the little framed picture of Finn beside his bed.

"Daddy is always there, sweetheart. He's watching over you."

Kit watched Kurt for awhile, grabbing at his face and then smiling brightly.

"Dada!"

A sob broke loose from Kurt's throat and he wasn't sure if Kit was calling him that or he might have understood about his actual father, but Kurt understood something then. He knew it wasn't about just him, but it was him and Kit. He would never be alone when he had him.

This was his son now in his eyes.

A few weeks later, the promotion was offered. It was a daunting proposition at first, leaving the city that had become his home and moving somewhere totally new, but it was exciting too! It could be a place for him and Kit to start fresh without old memories plaguing them. Something about it called to him besides the money or the prospect of heading his own division at the fashion magazine. This was their chance to start anew and make their own way. It wasn't ideal being farther away from his dad and Carole, but he could fly them out to see them anytime he wanted. Additionally, Mercedes and Santana lived there and Kurt was eager to reconnect with his old friends.

With a sense of adventure and a quickening heartbeat, Kurt opened the door to their new home and hiked Kit up higher on his hip. The baby looked around curiously at the bright, clean interior along with Kurt. Movers bustled around them, setting all of their things in their new places. Kurt showed Kit his room and they stared out the window at the gorgeous view of mountains and the city below them in the valley.

"We are going to be fine, baby." Kurt pressed his lips to the downy softness of Kit's hair. And they would. They were survivors. Their new bond had been borne of tragedy and the cruel unfairness of life, but they had each other and that's all that mattered. "Welcome home."
