I ran through the forest, my bare feet already soaked from the wet foliage underfoot. "Come back here!" I yelled after my brother, but he just grinned back over his shoulder at me. He waved the tome he was holding at me like it was a winning prize. I growled under my breath and increased my pace. I had been in the middle of reading that tome when Jayden suddenly burst into my room and snatched it from my hands. "Come here!" I yelled again but since when had my brother listened to my instructions?
Suddenly I felt my foot catch on something. I fell hard and winced. Jayden glanced back at me and then came running over. He wasn't smiling anymore, sensing that this wasn't a game any longer. "Are you ok, sis?" he asked worriedly. I nodded and sighed. Then my eyes landed on the tome he was still gripping in his right hand. I suddenly leapt forward and grabbed it. Then I was off like a terrified muffie, sprinting through the forest with my brother yelling incoherently behind me.
Then, without warning I suddenly crashed into someone, sending them sprawling. I stopped running and gazed down at them. "I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there," I exclaimed holding out a hand to help her up. She wiped mud off her face and smiled up at me, before taking my hand. "It's ok. Nice to meet you, I'm Harley by the way." "I'm Catrin," We smiled at each other and then stood in a companionable silence.
Then my brother suddenly burst through the trees behind us, gasping for breath. "Gotta go!" I called before taking off again, running full speed at my house. I managed to stop just before I smashed into the door. I turned to give Harley a wave, before slamming the door in my brother's face.
