Disclaimer : I do not own Avatar : The Last Airbender
Author's Notes : Okay , quick note before we get into this . I have adopted this story from HammerTide , because as of recently they have discontinued the story and I decided it would do no good to let a perfectly good idea go to waste . And I just happen to have been thinking of what would have happened to Azula if she had an actually good mother figure and some such .
But anyway , I will be reposting the original chapters with some light changes to them here and there but otherwise they will more or less remain the same.
With that said , let's get this story started !
Replaced...
That lingered in Azula's thoughts as she ran through the forest, she doesn't care about the dangers. She doesn't care about the voices that trailed behind her, pleading her to stop running. She ran, and ran, tears were in her eyes, her teeth grit, as she tried to hold her sob.
She couldn't take it, another blow to her pride. Her throne was already taken, her friends had abandoned her, her father deemed her worthless. And now...the gloves were off. She still ran through the Forgetful valley, the voices that begged her have long faded into oblivion.
How could she have miscalculated so badly ? She was perfect, she had done everything that she could , to be the perfect daughter. To be the prodigy that everyone wanted her to be and more, and achieved everything to perfection.
Or perhaps she had thought so.
Maybe she just had thought that she was perfect, as in the end; her birthright was taken by her worthless brother and her friends chose said brother over her.
I love Zuko more than I fear you.
Mai's words still stings in her mind . She could never forget how much her words had hurt . And even Ty Lee chose her brother over her.
And when she saw Zuko standing next to the waterbender, while she was chained to the ground like a rabid dog lashing out at its owner . She couldn't take it anymore .
Her world was a sham and she had accepted the gift of insanity. The humiliation that she had endured was too much. And then spending a year to rot in an asylum, to be forgotten by her nation and even her own family. They put her inside their because they wanted to get rid of her, no matter what Zuko claimed.
Azula already knew that Zuko was never someone she could depend on, or put her trust to even fulfill a single promise. He says one thing, but does the other. He came to her only when he needed something and then took it away as quickly.
When he was young, he came to ask for help, and when they have grown he came to take the crown from her, and then a year later after forgetting about her, he came to ask for help on searching their mother. He came to her only when he wants something, but he never came just for the sake of her, like what a brother should be .
When she fell down to the forest ground , rain started to pour as if weeping for the disgraced princess, she would just hope that Agni is merciful and strike her down with a lightning from the sky and just end it all.
End the suffering.
Everyone already abandoned her, her brother, her uncle, her mother , her friends and even her own father. Once her father had gotten what he needed, he discarded her like trash on the side of the road and forgotten about her . As if she were a mere afterthought in his mind .
She probably was .
Her mother replaced her with another. Had made the decision to forget about her and raised another daughter, to fill in her shoes. She thought she was perfect, a perfect daughter, a perfect student, a perfect sister and especially a perfect heir to the throne, but in the end, she realized those were just thoughts born from her own insecurity. And now, reality had hit her hard and realized that she was just someone that could be replaced when they see fit.
I love you Azula, I do.
The words lingered in her thoughts but she denied it. "No, you didn't Mother. No, you didn't. I already had known long before !" Azula yells, her voice was loud but no one was there. It was just her and the dark forest while the rain poured on her.
"I hope you're finally happy, mother ! I realized now. I was the blot that was in your perfect life ! You have a new daughter now, a perfectly good daughter that would do everything you want and be the good little girl you always dreamed of having !" Though her voice was fierce, the tears on her eyes couldn't be denied. "While as for me, I'm just a blemish to you ! You were right mother, I am indeed a monster, a monster that would die and rot in this forest ! Your wish has been finally granted !" She announced, curling her fists, and slamming it to the ground.
She considered it, considered just ending it here, and the pain would all be over.
Her hands moved in circular motion as the lightning sparked at the end of her fingers, she wanted to point it to her, to her heart. It would be quick and painless. Her death would be uneventful , just another girl committing suicide in the middle of a forest famous for that , and the people that detested her wouldn't even realize that their greatest wish had finally come true . While none would mourn for her at all.
No one mourns the wicked .
Her hands shook, pointing at her chest , but it never came through as her eyes rolled in the back of her head and she collapsed on the ground.
She leans down on the girl, her hands calmly putting the bangs of her hair aside. She motioned to her side as her pet Ostrich Horse come at her call. Gently, she lifted up the unconscious girl and straddled her to her ostrich horse, wondering how a girl would end up in a place like this. She could see that the girl was quite young, perhaps not even reaching adulthood yet . Many had gone into the valley, most would disappear and never be seen again, but none had ever come this far into the forest.
Usually, the spirits are unkind to adventurers, but for one to venture this far in the forest impressed her. She had wondered what resolve does this girl have that she would be able to have come to this place, unharmed . And she wanted to find out herself.
"It seems like we have a guest, Serenity. It has been quite sometime since we have someone under our house."
