Act 0: Pass the Torch
There was once a time where a Nomad thought he'd be dead after six months. The news that there was nothing that could be done to undo the damage broke him in two. . .
But. . . what he did not realise was that there's always hope in the darkest of times, and a certain construct though long gone into the deepest darkest part of the net had reminded him that. Sometimes when he dreamed, he'd be greeted by him, wearing a proud smile and with a cigarette in his chromed hand.
Inside this pleasant dream, he'd be in a familiar bar, where not only greeted by the Rockstar, but by the closest friend he lost in his life. His best friend always had a smile, beckoning him to join for a drink of celebration. It may have been only a dream, but for him it was good enough. A constant reminder that he was not alone, that he had people that still care for him, call him and treat him like family.
The chromed handed Rockstar would always raise a glass, followed by familiar faces. In unity they all raised their own and always gave the dreamer a reason to wake up smiling and motivated.
"To V!"
"You keep fightin"
"You ain't alone V!"
"No matter what, I have your back!"
It always ended on a good note. No sudden nightmare, no corpo military unit or gang to ruin the moment. Just V and his friends in the Afterlife in Night City, having a good time. . .
Then he'd wake up. . .
V woke up to see his still sleeping partner Panam Palmer beside him in their tent. He then looked to the small mirror to look at himself. For a young man, he looked wise beyond his age. The black and white eyes stared back, analysing the reflection in detail. His cyberware evident around his eyes, plated in silver, the neatly trimed silver beard and slicked back hair with bangs hanging in front of his face.
The rest of his body was also well kept. His life as Nomad taught him to keep strong, move fast and never let your guard down. With a flick of his hand, his mantis blades flipped out of his arm, revealing his cybernetic inner workings in the process. Not a single part was damaged, nor was his blades dull or bent. V's hands barely had skin, only covered in carbon fiber cyberware in the plam and the back of it, almost resembling fingerless gloves.
After retracting his blades, he looked closer at the now faint but small scaring on the side of his temple the life saving operation left behind. "I'm still here. . ." He said quietly with a warm smile.
He soon felt warm arms snake around his waist. The arms that held onto him throughout the toughest hardships in their lives. "You're still here V." Panam said in response, kissing his shoulder before resting her head on it.
"That Doc didn't lie when they said that they could undo the damage. . . Can't believe they were the one responsible for the Relic. . ." V turned to wrap his arm around Panam, pulling her close to plant a kiss on her forehead.
The sleepy lady kissed back on the lips, keeping close to his warm, cosy body. "It was a gamble. . . but what matters is you're here now." Her words always gave V a reason to smile. She stroked his face in a gentle move.
"Yeah. . . You gonna have to try harder to get rid of me Panam." A weak chuckle left his throat, his mind suddenly snapping back to the moment he left Night City, and saying goodbye to his only living family member.
On the outskirts of Night City. . . Several months ago. . .
"So it's true. . . You're leaving." A female voice said, standing behind him. V turned around with a small smile. "I know you need to go but, what am I gonna do?" She asked him, certain that she'd panic without his help or guidance.
V approached her, "You've come a long way. You're stronger than you think and you've managed this far sis. . . It's okay to be scared, but you know I'm always on the other end of the phone." He took out a small rectangular device, "Plus you have this now. I even put in your favourite band too with all their albums."
He could see his sister stim a little with joy, "Now remember what I taught you Keira. Mindfullness. I'll send you the detes to your new apartment. Megabuilding H10, floor eight and number zero seven one six."
"I'll look after it V." Keira said, a little tear leaving her cybernetic blue eyes. "Just p-please don't forget about me." She embraced her big brother, who returned the gesture.
Panam's heart melted at the scene, and also approached the siblings, she could see how similar in appearence they were. Like her brother, she too had silver hair, though mid length and a blue streak through it. A little smaller in height, and wore a blue and green motorcycle suit.
Keira looked to Panam and hugged her, "You keep him safe, and please. . . make sure he gets fixed in time." She was met with a returned hug. The younger sibling eventually released her hold, wiping her tears away.
The fellow Nomad smiled, "Whatever it takes, V's gonna get through this. You have my word. You just keep pushing forward and keep that head high, got it?" Panam accepted the little nod from her. "We better get goin' or we'll miss our window." She said rushing back to the car, leaving V and Keira to say their goodbyes.
V looked at his little sister and hugged one last time. "Fly high little Fox." He said her special little nickname, "Once I get passed the wall, I'll message you. I promise."
Keira responded swiftly, "Fly high Wolf. Now go and soar free." She reluctantly let go of her big brother, backing away from him.
With no more words, V turned and dashed towards the car and upon entering, he gave one last smile. The younger sibling smiled back and waved them off, driving towards the desert. A sad sigh left her throat before she put on her helmet, climbing onto her bike and setting the coordinates to her new home. It was going to be a long drive and rather listen to the radio, she tapped on her newly given music player, selected her favourite band and pressed play, and smiled at the first song before beginning her journey home.
Present day: Night City
Elderflower soda. . . Keira's favourite drink to have at Tom's Diner, alongside a bowl of lentil soup with crusty bread. Sitting at a table by herself, she could watch the people go by from the window, using her upgraded scanner to see who they were, their work status, and how many eddies were they worth on the NCPD bounty list. Before V left, he passed his apartment along with a large amount of eddies to ensure she lived comfortably.
After her lunch, she stay seated and waited for someone. A large man walked in, spotting her instantly. He wore a grey suit, his hair tied into a ponytail, and with a clean shaven face. Casually walking up to the table, he sat down facing Keira, and spoke quietly.
"Your "client" has found the man we've been after for well over a month. . . Reared his ugly head at the new Kiss Kiss club, just beside Okada's place. She's letting you go ahead and deal with him." He stated, "Remember. He's extremely dangerous."
Keira took a sip of her drink, "I've read the brief. You needn't remind me Sir." She politely said, focusing on the ice in her glass instead of giving direct eye contact. Though the man looked right at her, he somewhat understood why she wouldn't.
Without another word, he nodded and left her to finish her lunch. The job wasn't until nightfall, which gave her time to plan out what to do until then. "Grab some snacks for the apartment, watch the tv for a while, put on some club clothes, and then head off to the club." She mentally laid out her plan, letting an ice cube slide in her mouth before proceeding to crunch it.
"Cold. But nice." She added, ignoring a look of confusion by one of the old patrons in the diner. Eventually she left with a full stomach and begun to execute her plan. For tonight, she was on a mission and she intended on beginning her hunt. . .
And thus begins the story of the Fox of Night City!
End of Act 0
Author's Notes:
Greetings for those who haven't heard from me in so long. After a long unintentional hiatus, I've slowly started to get back into my writing and will try to return to stories that are yet to be finished, continued, etc etc.
The Spider-Man story is still on the go and I am slowly coming back to it also.
This Cyberpunk story is primarily set after the main story ( With Nomad V leaving with Panam Palmer, but also helping the many allies we meet within Night City such as Judy, Misty, Rogue and so many more. )
It will focus on a new OC who is also the younger sister of V. I also add that the character herself is in fact on the Autism Spectrum and is in fact Pansexual. I hope you all come to like Keira as she grows into not just the sibling of a Night City legend, but a legend herself.
