The 118 was just getting back from a call around noon, Bobby was making lunch and Buck was watching hen and chim play video games while Eddie was looking up summer camps for Chris.
But then everything changes for Buck.
Buck hears Bobby say behind him "can I help you?" Then he hears the ever familiar voice of Kelly Severide. The one that got away in Buck's eyes, the man who will always be the love of his life saying "hi im looking for-" buck interrupts kellys sentence by asking "Kel?"
"Hey Ev." Kelly says coming up the loft steps the rest of the way.
"Do we know who that is?" Chim asks Hen and Eddie who both shake their heads
"Um kel this is Captain Bobby Nash and hen and chem our paramedics and Eddie." Buck introduces everyone then adds "Everyone this is Lieutenant Kelly Severide my, uh my ex…" Buck says, gaining wide eyes from everyone but bobby.
"Hi nice to meet you Kelly, what house are you from?" Bobby asks, shaking kellys hand.
"Firehouse 51 out of chicago." Kelly says proudly.
"Chicago?" Chim squawks then adds "how do you two know each other then?"
"I uh, I lived there for 8 years before coming here, that's where I became a firefighter. We met when I was placed at 51 as a candidate." Buck explains
"How did we not know this?" asks Chim, Buck shrugs his shoulders saying, "You never really asked."
Evan then looks to Kelly and says "let's go down by the trucks and talk for a mintute.'' Kelly nods and follows Evan, watching his ass the entire time. Evan always had an amazing ass, Kelly thinks to himself.
"Hey." Evan says as they get out of view of his team also out of ear shot.
"Hey, you didn't tell them anything about your past?" Kelly asks right off the bat, making evan sigh.
"No, I didn't, it was too painful, to relive the good then realize I ruined it all." Evan explains.
Kelly cups Evan's cheek, Evans relaxing into his palm like a million times before, like no time has passed. "It wasn't your fault baby, i was on a downward spiral, and you needed to save yourself and that beautiful heart of yours and i get that, man if Shay could see the mess i made of everything she'd kick my ass." Kelly says with a sad chuckle.
"She would kick my ass for giving up on you when I should have been there for you." Evan says sadly.
"So Kel, what are you doing here?" Evan ask
"Well first off I need to tell you that Benny died." Kelly says sadly as he runs a rough hand over his face.
Evan is shocked to say the least. He never thought Benny Severide would die, the man was invincible.
"When? Are you okay? What happened?" Evan asks, putting a comforting hand on Kelly's forearm.
"Last week, he had a stroke and I didn't call you cause I didn't want you to drop everything for me. At least not until we got a chance to talk. And I'm dealing better than I did with Shay or Andy's death." Kelly explains.
"Well at least you know I'd drop everything to be there with you. I can't believe it was a stroke that took him out. Also it's good that you're dealing better. Evan says
Kelly sighs, nods then gets to the point. "Listen Ev, I wanna cut right to the chase before the bells go off." Kelly says, evan nods his encouragement.
Then Kelly takes a deep breath and says "I'm madly in love with you, have been since you were 18, I held off until you were 21 but it nearly killed me and the last 3 and a half years apart well, they have been really difficult for me because I realized what I had and what I lost because I was a stubborn bastard." He takes a breath then continues.
"I've finally realized that Chicago has nothing for me if you're not there, home is wherever you are, Ev i want to give us another chance, i know i don't deserve your forgiveness, but please forgive me and let me come home to you." Evan cups Kelly's face then brings his lips to kellys in a tender kiss.
Once they pull apart Evan says, "I've been madly in love with you since I was 18 and the last three years have been hell without you. I've tried moving on but I can't. You're the one that got away." Evan says as he takes kellys hands, then he continues. "I shouldn't have left you and we can't get that time back, but we can move forward from here. I'll always have you Kel, no matter what, I love you and need you like I need oxygen. I want to give us another chance as well." Evan says with that smirk that always makes Kelly weak in the knees, making Kelly smile in return.
They seal it with another tender kiss, then Kelly says "Ok, so i'm willing to move to L.A if that's what i have to do, to be with you." Kelly explained, just as the bells sound, both men groan.
Evan gives Kelly a spare key and the address to his apparemment, then says " go there, sleep, eat, relax, i'll be there first thing in the morning."
Kelly nods quickly, kisses Evan, then says "Be safe."
"Always." Evan says then goes to his turnout gear and hops into the truck.
Meanwhile in the truck, all eyes are on Buck.
"What?" he asks when he can't take the stares any longer.
"Well, some random guy shows up and you guys go talk for the biggest part of an hour and then you get a big ass smile on your face, wanna explain?" Eddie says and asks.
"Kellys not a random guy, he's, well , Kelly. We have so much history, and we are finally trying again. I've been waiting three and a half years to correct my mistake of leaving him, so I'm glad I have the chance now to fix things between us."
"Im glad your happy buckeroo, but why didnt you tell us about your past, or that you were gay?" Hen asks.
"I'm Bi, and i didnt know how you guys would react, a gay woman in this field of work is a lot different then a Bi man. God don't I ever know that." Ean says thinking of Shay.
He continues after a beat by saying "I didn't tell you about my past because it was too painful to relive
the good and the bad, to realize what a mistake I made by leaving Kelly when he needed me the most. It was too hard to tell you the truth after everything. I was scared of getting close again and losing anyone else, cause God knows I've lost too many people to this damn job, and I couldn't risk bearing my heart and soul just to lose someone else. But then you guys had to worm your way into my heart anyway, so it was pointless not to tell you guys, but I thought I was protecting myself and my heart from more heartache and sorrow,Buck explains.
"I'm sorry you've lost people to this job Buck, but we will always be here for you no matter what. So why don't you and Kelly come to Athenas and mine tomorrow night after shift for a BBQ, we will have one of our cookouts, and you can explain what you want then to us all if you want.'" Bobby says, making Buck forever grateful for the other man and thinks maybe they will get back to a good place after the lawsuit..
"Okay sounds good." Buck says just as they arrive at the scene.
It was a window washer stuck up 16 stories with their rope snapping, so Eddie and Buck made quick work of repelling down the building from the 17th floor to get the man down safely.
The rest of the shift went smoothly, they only had a few calls through the night so they all got some rest. Now it was time for Evan to go home to the love of his life, Kelly. It's been too long since he was able to go home to Kelly.
Evan drives back to his apartment, when he unlocks the door the smell of breakfast being cooked hits him in the face.
"Hey babe, how was the shift?" Kelly asks when he notices Evan entering the apartment.
"Hey yourself, it was good we got invited to bobby and athenas tonight for a BBQ with the rest of the 118 and their families. Evan says as he wraps his arms around Kelly's waist from behind, and kisses his neck.
"Mhmm, ok, should I be worried?" Kelly asks
"Nah, my sister will be there though as she is dating chim." Evan explains.
"Okay, I've never met your sister before, does she even know about me or your past?" Kelly asks as he turns around in Evan's arms and kisses him passionately.
Between kisses evan manages to say "yes she knows about you and a bit about my past." Evan explains as he pulls away from Kelly, Kelly then plates the bacon and pancakes. They eat in silence for a bit then Evan asks "so what are we doing? Is this just for a few days then you go home and I stay here with a broken heart? Because I don't think I can't lose you twice." Evan explained.
Kelly sighs, rubbing a rough hand over his face then says "I don't want this to be short and sweet, I want this for the long haul. If I have to move to L.A I will, I'll do anything to be with you Ev." He explained holding Evan's hand.
"Kel, I can't expect that of you, you have worked so hard to get to where you are." Evan says, then sighs and adds "I want you, I want us, so badly it hurts, but I can't ask you to come and live here and then you grow to resent me." He explained.
"Ev, I could never resent you baby. And I'm offering to come and live here, you're not asking me. I want to be wherever you are, I told you home is where you are, baby, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want us to grow old being married and die in our bed surrounded by you and our kids and grandkids hell maybe even a few great grandkids. I want us forever Ev." Kelly says as he gets up from the table and moves to where Evan is seated, he gets down on one knee, then he holds out a platinum band, Evan gasps, clasping a hand over his mouth.
Kelly then says "you are the love of my life, Ev, I want to promise you that no matter where life takes us I'll be by your side, no matter what. I want to spend the rest of my days with you, however long that might be, will you marry me Ev?" Kelly asks, evan nods his head rapidly, then says "of course I'll marry you!" Kelly slips the band on Evan's ring finger then they kiss passionately.
They take it to the bedroom and make love over and over again, until it's time to get ready for the BBQ.
