Prismo slowly opened his eye and let out a deep satisfying yawn. Not that he had actually been asleep. He didn't sleep as a rule, being the dream of a man. What would a dream dream of anyway. No what he did was more of a meditative trance. A way for him to pass the eons.
Now you might be wondering just why he, a being of supreme cosmic power, would do such a thing. Well, the thing was Prismo was incredibly bored.
And there is nothing on worth watching right now. He thought to himself as observed the room. The same four cheese yellow walls his room was made of. Check. He looked passed the walls to where the old man that dreamed about him slept. Still asleep, good.
Finally, his eyes fell to the only opening into his home. There was no door on it seeing as he was plopped down right in the center of the multiverse. He looked from the present to the future and saw no immediate visitor.
"Looks like Prismo the Wish Master isn't need today." He muttered to himself. Which was fine he supposed the whole wish giver thing was only a hoody a way for him to hopefully have visitors every once in a while.
Time for my other job then, but where is it? Prismo looked around until he spotted it. His arm stretch along the floor towards his prize. Prismo did not look like an ordinary man. He was more like the shadow of a man, who was completely pink with yellow eyes.
His fingers curled around his prized tool and pulled it close. Relaxing as best he could he lifted the remote and pressed a button. The wall opposite of him flickered before displaying map.
It was unlike any map in the multiverse. First of it didn't display land masses but the worlds those land masses were on. It was also updated in real time as each world flowed on an unseen current through the infinite space between worlds.
He watched those worlds as they moved sometimes, they came close enough that they brushed against each other. Such closeness allowed for things to cross from one world to another. Which was always fun to watch.
Prismo observed countless worlds like these, searching them out and ever vigilant of anything that could spill from them and over into other world. Such was Prismo duties As long as it remained within the world of which it originated Prismo could not interfere. For all his power Prismo was basically a janitor Keeping everything tidy and neat. It was a taxing job, but somebody had to do it.
"What the hell do you think you're doing."
the sudden words spoken in a place that should have no one in it in and the anger behind them startled Prismo. His awareness fell away from the world he was observing and into the room of which he laid. Eyes open wide as he looked for whoever spoke. He didn't have to try hard the man was standing right there in the center of the room staring up at him.
The figure wore a cloak that covered everything but his head. He had bright blue spiky hair and a set of horns growing out of them. An angular face with patchwork skin that resembled scales his eyes had deep golden iris with black reptilian slits for pupils.
"Arc?" Prismo asked, more out of confusion than anything else. "What are you doing here?"
Arc scowled at the shadow of the man when he spoke his voice was a deep growl. "What am I doing here You ask. What I've always done clean up your messes."
"What mess are you talking about?"
"I know how your idiotic desire to please everyone you meet keeps causing problems. But this goes beyond anything you have done before." Arc snapped.
Now Prismo considered himself a laid-back kind of guy. But well even he had his limits.
"Just because I consider you a friend doesn't mean you can come in here and insult me." Prismo loomed over the little man, his voice losing its jovial cheer. "And don't think that little trinket around your arm is going to keep me from banishing you from my domain and into the crappiest most desolate little world I can find. Now why are you here."
Arc looked unfazed by his threats, but Prismo noted the shifting of the man's feet as he shifted into a more combative stance.
"This." Arc said raising a clawed hand toward the screen. "Is why I'm here."
The screen shifted scenes revealing the map of another section of the multiverse. Prismo stared at the map confused until he noted what was wrong and if he paled his entire body becoming stark white.
"Oh, that's not good."
"Yeah." Arc sighed. "That was my reaction too."
The worlds within that section of dimensional space were moving strangely. It wasn't obvious at first glance until you took in the whole other and saw the way all of them were moving. Slowly they were circling each other and with circuit they got a little closer and closer until they collided. Like water down the drain all the worlds were moving until they collide it into a single point. A single world.
"A Convergence event and on such a scale." Prismo noted. "That shouldn't be possible."
"Not naturally anyway." Arc said, then added. "This is all you fault by the way."
Prismo looked at the man aghast. "How is this my fault."
"Look closely and you'll see the hand behind this mess. They weren't subtle about it either, they wanted us to know it was them." Arc instructed grouchily.
Prismo did as he said, observing it in a way that couldn't truly be described. He saw the flow of power directing things and understood.
"That's not possible it couldn't have been them they were locked up." Prismo said, refusing to believe what he saw. If it was true, then there was only one way it was possible. If he put all the pieces together then it was truly his fault.
Arc wouldn't give him such luxury.
"I thought so too." Arc said, his anger raising. "So, I investigated how it could be possible. You want to know where my first stop was?"
"The prison?"
"The prison." Arc smiled it wasn't a nice smile. "They were still rebuilding the thing by the time I got there. Do you know the prisoner that started this jailbreak, what they were in for?"
Prismo said nothing.
"Killing a Wishmaster, killing you." Arc glared at him. "how the hell did somebody kill a person as paranoid as you."
"Well, that's kind of a long story." Prismo began, but Arc cut him off.
"Does it start by somebody asking you for help?" Arc asked.
Prismo again said nothing.
"You colossal idiot!" Arc exploded. "Did you even think about consequences of your actions, of what this could mean to everyone. The things trapped in that prison could give nightmares nightmares. and you let them Out!"
Prismo jerked back from the man's anger, his own irritation had faded because Arc spoke the truth. Instead of yelling back he went into problem solving mode, trying to figure out just what he could do.
"I'm guessing the reason you're here is because you tried to do something and failed." Prismo said, working through his available options.
"They're become more crafty since being looked up. Somehow, they've learned to hide from my perception. it's why I'm here I need you to point them out for me so I can take them down." Arc raised hand became encased by a metal gauntlet, the malevolent angry within it put Prismo on edge.
Prismo knew what Arc was talking about and would have none of it.
"You do that, and tens of billions of people will die." Prismo said.
"They're going to die regardless." Arc snapped. "I could try to get closer but there's a risk they might sense me and flee then I might not be able track them down again. I got lucky this time, might not happen again. This could be our only chance to head this off before something worse happens."
Damm him. Prismo thought. He had a point, and this could be their best shot but still. He took another look at those worlds Searching through them hoping that there was something he could use OK. He looked and he found it. A grin split his face at the site that greeted him, it was a long shot but still better odds for those people then what Ark had planned.
"Listen I have an idea. One of those worlds is about to perform a summoning ritual and they have a set of those weapons for whoever they call upon to use." Prismo spoke fast. "See, I know a guy that has a surprisingly good history of stopping this type of thing. Just let me tweak that world's summoning ritual to bring him there. Then we just sit back and watch him work."
Arc looked at him, calculations spinning behind those cold eyes of his.
"When he fails." Arc spoke as if it was inevitable. "And your boss finds out we had a chance to stop them but didn't. The both of us are in a world of trouble."
"If my guy fails which he won't, then you can erase the world and him along with it. I'll even throw in a Wish to make it happen." Prismo said.
"You'll be risking that instead of billions dying it could be the end of everything." Arc warned, but was already lowering his hand, the gauntlet disappearing into motes of light.
"I trust him, he never let me down before." Prismo said.
Arc looked from the wall where the worlds were displayed to Prismo. They stared each other down then with a sigh Arc asked. "What's his name?"
Finn was startled awake from his dream of stars and comets by a gentle hand prodding him. A part of him said it was important but the memory of it was already slipping from his mind. Finn blinked bleary as he opened his eyes, his mind still clouded from the drug induced slumber, only to be blinded by a bright light.
He hissed in pain as the light seared his eyes. He covered his eyes with his hands to escape it, one hand was warm against his face while the other was blistering cold.
"Oh, sorry about that. Okay it should be safe to opened your eyes." A familiar voice said.
When Finn uncovered his eyes this time he could thankfully see. He was laying on an operating table in one of the most high-tech labs he had ever seen. Standing over him to his left and right were two of the women closest to Finn's heart.
"Wha…" Finn tried to connect his thoughts, but it was like his mind was running through maple syrup. He looked to the woman on his right. "Bonnie what's going on?"
Bonnie also known as Princess Bubblegum was one of Finn's oldest and closest friend. She was also a 6'ft tall and made entirely out of pink bubblegum, hence the title. Bonnie leaned over Finn to inspect him, peering deep into his eyes. Giving him an up-close look of her refined and beautiful face. This close he could also smell the cloying sweet and fruity scent that always followed her around, since she was you know made out of gum.
"That's just the anesthesia talking Finn. Give it a second and it'll come back to you." Bonnie pushed up her glasses a smile on her lips and pushed her cotton candy hair behind her hot pink ear. She was dressed in blue scrubs, but she could make anything she wore amazing. Finn had a crush on her growing up, and even though it had faded a part of him would always hold a torch for his Princess.
"We didn't use to much did we." A worried voice cut in from his left. "Is there anything else that feels off Finn."
Finn evaluated his limbs and found nothing wrong with the three of them. He turned to his left, there stood a woman with a face similar to his. Blond hair that trailed to her shoulders framed her pale skin and electric blue eyes. She was also dressed in blue scrubs. Atop her head rested a fur cap with two ear nubs sticking out of it.
Her name was Minerva, but Finn called her by something else.
"I'm fine Mom." Finn said. The aftereffects of the drugs were passing, and Finn remembered why he was here. He reached over to his right arm and touched metal. "You finished with my new arm."
A few years back on an adventure to an interdimensional prison Finn had lost his right arm trying to stop the prisoners from escaping. He had failed and lost his arm as a result. One of the prisoners was his father, Finn still had trouble thinking about Martin sometimes.
Finn sighed shifting to a seated position on the table to better examined his new arm. It matched his flesh and blood one in size and shape. A little on the heavy side but not anything to bad, it'd take some time before Finn would be comfortable with it. It was a nice arm but nothing exceptional.
"I thought you said this was an upgrade but I'm not seeing it." Finn grunted as he got off the table. He walked around the room to wake his legs up and even threw in a few jabs with his right to see how it function.
"That is where you're wrong Finn." Bonnie puffed her cheeks out in annoyance. She took out a tablet and a 3-d imagine floated above it. It was a dissembled version of his arm. "This might be one of the greatest things I have ever made."
She looked over to Minerva and coughed into her fist.
"The best thing we have ever built." Bonnie corrected herself.
"Oh no." Minerva waved her arms in denial. "I'm not a scientist. The only thing I did was provide you with the blueprints and research of people much more intelligent than me. The fact that you could do so much with it would have made those people really happy."
"Oh." Bonnie's cheeks turned even pinker. "Well, I'm glad you trusted me with them in the first place."
"It was to help Finn, so I didn't need to think twice. He trusts you so will I." Minerva spoke with absolute faith in her son.
"You really are a remarkable woman. To do what you did takes more courage than even I could muster." Bonnie praised her a slight smile on her face.
"Thank you, and the same right back at you. I doubt there is a single being as capable as you in the world." Minerva smiled back.
There was something between them that Finn what nothing to do with. He shuffled over to Bonnie to whisper in her ear so his mother wouldn't hear.
"Don't you already have a girlfriend. Stop flirting with my Mom!" Finn hissed incredulous that he would even have to say such a thing in the first place.
Bonnie let out an affronted gasp.
"First of all, that is not what I was doing at all. Secondly Marci and I have an open relationship so she wouldn't have a problem with it anyway." Bonnie pointed out.
"Really?" Out of all the response Finn could have gotten that was not one he expected.
"We're immortals Finn." Bonnie shrugged. "Trying to keep things so tightly bound is why we broke up in the first place. Infact your Mom is one to and who knows how things might pan out in a century or two."
"Bonnie, no." Finn refused to even think about it.
She gave him a queer look as if just realizing something.
"I don't know whether I'm happy were close enough that you feel comfortable calling me by my first name or annoyed it's been over a year since you called me Princess." Bonnie complained halfheartedly.
Finn bowed theatrically surprising both women.
"You were telling me about my arm." Finn paused then continued. "Princess."
"Brat." Bonnie chortled, then spoke in her royal voice. "You may refer to us as Bonnie, it pleases us. Also put on a shirt."
Finn laughed and took the shirt his mother offered him and sat back on the table. Waiting for Bonnie presentation. Bonnie coughed into her fist and got started.
"Founder Island technology was centered around body modification and enhancement for humanity to better survive this chaotic world. Using that as the base and some of the more experimental ideas I was able to design your arm with several functions in mind."
Even though he didn't need to Finn held up a hand as he asked. "Functions?"
"Onboard computer with an A.I. helper. A cross-dimensional communication device in case you ended up on another dimension again. An inbuilt scanner to take note of practically anything from a person to unidentified technology. But the best feature I think is the mini fabricator and conversion device I built into your forearm." Bonnie grinned widen to mad scientist level as she listed off her additions to Finn's arm.
Finn mind spun out of control as he tried to make sense of it all.
"A Fabricator?" He asked.
"What do you know about Digi-resin Finn?" Bonnie asked.
"It's that programable matter stuff that the other humans used to build their city in a few months." Finn answered with as much knowledge as he had. Which wasn't much.
"Such a fascinating concept, to break down the materials around you into their base molecules and then reconstruct them into whatever you wanted. The only problem was that the devices used was so big as to be unwieldy." Then a prideful some would even say arrogant look came upon Bonnie's face. "Until now that is!"
On the image of Finn's arm two parts lit up and became the only thing visible.
"With these Finn you can convert any materials you around into Digi-resin and them turn that into anything you can imagine. But if you can't think of anything I downloaded a variety of devises that you're A.I. can craft." Bonnie had a look of 'praise me now' on her face, but something else she said caught Finn's attention.
"A.I.?" Finn asked, and a third voice spoke up.
[That would be me. Hello Finn, I am pleased to meet you.] The voice while feminine had a slightly metallic tinge to it. It also echoed strangely in Finn's ear.
"Ahhh!" Finn let out a high-pitched wail as he jerked his head around trying to find the source of the voice, but there was no one but the three of them. "What was that? I heard a voice."
"Did she finally introduce herself." Bonnie tapped on her tablet again and the image projecting from it vanished.
"She?" Finn kept searching for the voice.
[Down here.] The voice said helpfully.
When Finn looked down, he still didn't see anything, anything but his arm.
Finn open and close his mouth struggling to find the words to describe how he felt in the moment nothing came to mind.
"I guess that I should leave the introductions to you then." Bonnie said with a laugh.
[Understood, once again hello Finn. My name is Owl, I am an A.I. an artificial intelligence. My primary directives is to assist you with anything you may require.] The voice, Owl, Finn realized was speaking directly into his mind.
"Why Owl." Stunned Finn asked the first thing that came to mind.
"A bit of a mythology joke." Minerva spoke up.
"Mom?"
"Yes Dear."
"Why can I hear Owl in my head."
"That simple Finn, she is speaking to you through your implant." Minerva explained.
"Oh, that makes since." Finn nodded his understanding, before exploding with a shout. "What Implant!?"
"I keep forgetting sometimes that you wouldn't know of such things. You see, all children born on Founder's island have an implant put in them when they're born. It helps us to keep track of them and monitor their location. Unfortunately, yours was damaged during your departure from the island. I fixed it while you were under."
"is it like the one in Susan?"
"No, the ones in the Seekers are a bit outdated and external. You on the other hand have a newer version that I just finished upgrading with the newest software update."
"So, what's it do."
"What does the chip do."
"Allows you to connect and communicate with others who have the implant on the Island's information network. Also, you can access the internet with it."
"That's it?" Finn said disappointed. "Susan could do all kinds of stuff."
"Susan was a high ranked Seeker and earned her upgrades through her diligent service to the island." Minerva scolded her son. "Whiles yours is the basic set of a civilian. If you had remained with the Island and chosen a vocation that would have changed. As one rises through their respective standing, they are given greater boons. Upgrades and apps could be purchased to better one's implant with various bonuses."
"You must have been pretty high ranked yourself Mom." Finn commented. But instead of being happy with his praise Minerva's shoulders slumped.
"I wasn't particularly high up the rankings as Helpers go, somewhat mid-tier if I'm actually being honest. But when that virus swept through the Island it had wiped out almost all people in the higher tiers. I was made the highest-ranking person by default." Minerva shuddered in discomfort. "Then when I did what I did I became the leader of the entire Island."
But, after taking over Mom was so worried about the survivors that she took it upon herself and her army of identical robots to manage running the Island alone. Keeping anyone else from gaining any positions of power on the Island. That was then and this is now Minerva was stepping back and letting the people make the decisions for themselves again.
Finn walked across the room and hugged his mom, she was stiff and cold as steel. It didn't bother Finn, it would never bother him.
"Thank you, Finn." Minerva whispered returning the gesture and pushing Finn away. "But where not exactly done with the demonstration yet. With you implant the things Owl picks up with her sensor suite can be transmitted directly to your H.U.D."
A golden spark danced across Finn's eyes, and he turned to look. It danced around him in an unseen wind to an unheard rhythm. It was then quickly joined by another and another, soon enough Finn found himself in the middle of a golden twister. It was an awe-inspiring sight. Was this a part of the demonstration?
[Warning! Unknown energy spike detected. Recommended actions: evacuated the area.] Owl's shout answered that question.
Finn tried to move but his body was frozen in place, he tried to speak but his mouth wouldn't move. The last thing he saw before the golden light consumed him was the terrified stares of Bonnie and Minerva.
