A/N: Why yes I am writing Gnomeo and Juliet fanfiction. Got a problem with it? Tell someone who cares lol
Sorry, not trying to be mean. Just trying to keep away the haters. Anyway! Whatever brought you to this story, I hope you'll enjoy! I'm not sure how long it'll be, but I'm hoping to keep it kinda short since it's my first Gnomeo and Juliet fanfic and I don't want it to drag on for too long. I've been fixating on this movie for years and I'm finally writing about it, so I'm really excited! I hope you guys will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it! I think we all wonder what would've happened if their secret wasn't discovered, so as a fanfic writer it's my job to bring that idea to life lol
And with that, let's let the story begin!
"You know, other people's hate..destroyed my love." Spoke the plastic flamingo known as Featherstone. "And I couldn't do nothing about it."
As much as it pained the two gnomes to know the story of how their new friend lost the love of his life and was abandoned for two decades, they needed to hear it. Only a while ago they were arguing and unintentionally hurt his feelings by taking their anger out on him. They didn't mean for it to happen. They didn't mean to even argue in the first place. It was only because of a misunderstanding, involving the feud that they were wrapped up in their entire lives. Only now, the whole ordeal seemed completely meaningless.
They were in love, and they weren't supposed to be. They knew this, they knew they were forbidden to be together, to even see each other. Gnomeo had spent his entire life hating the Reds and everything they worked for. He was responsible for most of the revenge plans. He was raised by Lady Bluebury, the leader of the Blue Garden, and therefor he always believed that Reds were evil and cruel.
As for Juliet, she was never directly involved in the quarrels between the gardens, but she was still raised to despise the Blues and to stay as far away from them as possible. Her father—Lord Redbrick, leader of the Reds—had kept her on her pedestal to keep her safe from their enemies (among other dangers as well). She knew just as well as Gnomeo that she could never be with a Blue.
But by some crazy, unpredictable circumstance, they fell in love anyway. At first they didn't even know they were from feuding gardens. But when they found out, their feelings didn't change—they merely just became complicated. They were risking everything just to be together, but it was a risk they both were clearly willing to take. Only Featherstone and their friends, Nanette and Shroom, knew about their situation. No one else could know, otherwise all hell would break loose.
Standing in what was left of the old greenhouse that belonged to the Lawrence couple twenty years ago, Featherstone managed to end their fight by explaining to them that he and his beloved were separated simply because other people couldn't get along. He was left alone for so long because people let hate take over their hearts.
"But you," He turned to them with a sad smile, "You can."
They knew exactly what he was trying to tell them.
At this point, what they were fighting about was long forgotten. Looking back on it now, it just seemed silly. How could they let something like their feuding families get in between them? It didn't stop them the night they met and agreed to see each other again. So why would now be any different?
Gnomeo sighed, gently placing his hand on Featherstone to show any sort of solace. He began to wonder if things would ever change between the gardens. The Reds and Blues had been fighting for as long as he could remember. Even before his father died, there was always tension among the neighboring gnomes. Things were only getting worse as the days went by. The Blues were getting angrier, the Reds were becoming more reckless. It was only a matter of time before they all destroyed each other.
And if that day were to come, he didn't want to be apart of it, nor did he want anything to happen to Juliet. If they ever truly wanted to be happy together, they wouldn't achieve it by staying in separate gardens, pretending that they hated each other's guts. Honestly, it killed Gnomeo to act like he hated her. He could never. He didn't care what color her hat was, he just wanted to be with her, no matter what it took.
An idea came to his mind. A crazy, absolutely ridiculous idea. But ever since meeting Juliet, his mind was always clouded and he never thought straight anyway.
He turned to the red gnome, taking her hands to pull her aside. "You know, I think that crazy, pink plastic bird might be right." He said, "What if we never went back?"
Upon hearing his suggestion, Featherstone's face lit up with delight and he let out an excited gasp. Clearly he loved the idea, mostly since it meant he would get to spend more time with the two of them.
Juliet, however, was reluctant to agree. "Never go back?" She questioned, glancing to the side. "But what about my father? And Nanette? And the Red Garden?"
Gnomeo couldn't say he blamed her for having so many doubts. He knew what he was proposing was a big, risky step to take. He knew the life they would both be abandoning. He would miss his mother and his best friend, Benny. He would miss the gnomes he grew to consider family, the garden he knew as his home. But if giving all of that up was what it took to stay with Juliet, then so be it.
"You see, the truth is, over there, we're enemies. But here?" He said, looking around at the greenhouse they were in—the place where they first met. "Here, we're a matching pair!"
Still holding onto her hands, he got down on his knee, fully prepared to give up his entire life to the girl that turned his world upside down. The girl of his dreams. The girl who stole his heart, and could keep it forever.
"Juliet, will you stay here and build a garden with me?"
As hesitant as she was a moment ago, Juliet knew her answer already. She didn't need to think about it. Sure, she would miss her father and her friends, but it wasn't like the Red Garden would fall apart without her. If they couldn't accept her love for Gnomeo, then she would stay somewhere where their love was not only accepted, but supported.
"I'd love to." She smiled.
She felt something nudge up against her. When she turned her head, she saw that it was Gnomeo's little friend, Shroom, holding up the Cupid's Arrow Orchid that she found the night before. The very orchid that brought them together in the first place. Juliet silently thanked the mushroom as she took the flower from him, grateful that he was giving them his blessing. If only the others were as accepting as him.
The young couple found some soil in the ground and decided to put the orchid there. They carefully placed it in the soil, where it would grow and flourish from now on. The first of hopefully many beautiful plants in their new garden, and it looked perfect.
As they finished planting it, Juliet placed her hands over his before they stood up. They placed the palms of their hands against each other, staring loving into each other's eyes.
This was it, there was no going back now. Strangely enough, they weren't scared. They weren't worried about leaving their families behind. Honestly, they didn't give a damn. They were here where they truly belonged; together in peace.
The rest of the world vanished around them. They felt as if they were the only two people left, the only two people that mattered. From now on, it was just going to be them in their garden of love. No hate or vengeance or unwanted anger was allowed. No one from the Red or Blue garden was going to take away what they had.
They slowly pressed their lips together, sealing their love with a passionate kiss. At last they could be together and not have to hide it. No more lies, no more secrets, no more deceit. They were together and that was all that mattered.
