A Xiaolin Showdown Story
Maxine Spicer's Xiaolin Adventures
Chapter 1
Little Sister's Arrival
Too make things interesting for this new story I've decided to write what comes to mind. I need to just embrace my ideas and go with it. Of course not everything that comes to mind could or would work but might as well give it a try. I mean it couldn't hurt to go forth with whatever thought(s) pops up yes? Give me your opinions down in the comment section and don't hold back. I can take it if it helps me improve. Now without further ado I will commence with the story. Hope you guys enjoy it.
Oh and throughout most of this story it will be from Maxine's Point of View. I will switch to Normal and the other character's POV but Maxine will be the main character in this story. Thus she will be telling everything from her POV. This story will be following the episodes from Xiaolin Showdown, but Maxine's arrival comes around the time after Citadel of Doom but before Master Monk Guan. Let's go with right before the Sands of Time. This first chapter or two will be my own meeting of the monks before we get to the good stuff.
~Maxine's POV~
The sound of David Bowie's voice ran through my ears. Headphones were plugged in my ears with the voice of my favorite artist singing through them. Sitting quietly in the back of a cab on my way home from boarding school. I could hardly wait to return home after a year aboard. My parents were pleased with my last report card, straight A's as usual, high marks, positive feedback from my teachers. Just the usual business for a prodigy child like myself, but I don't like to brag. With my high marks I had managed to talk my parents into letting me continue my education online from home. It wasn't that I didn't like my current living arrangements its just I don't feel challenged anymore at school. Not to mention I miss my older brother, Jack Spicer. He may not be perfect but he made things interesting and he knows how to make me laugh. Not to mention I like messing with the guy and believe me he is easy to mess with.
Now my parents were busy people who currently traveled for business and my big brother was left home doing his own thing. This included this whole 'take over the world' phase and I had talked mom and dad into letting me continue my schooling online from home so I could keep an eye on Jackie and make sure he didn't blow up the house with one of his inventions, again. They agreed seeing no trouble to my education and having someone responsible watch Jackie would put them at ease. Not saying my brother is irresponsible, he's just a tad...what's the word? Well...childish and...off sometimes. Yeah that best describes him. There is also clumsy, whinny, annoying, and idiotic but I would never say that out loud. I like Jack to have some dignity.
Looking at my watch the time read three seventeen in the afternoon. I had arrived at the airport from England at two. Gathered my belongings from baggage claim, called a cab, gave the guy directions, kicked back with some music and was waited. I should be reaching my house in the next three minutes judging on my current location outside. Our house was located near the woods. Perfect for privacy or in our case my brother's experiments. Hopefully he hadn't destroyed the house during my absence. No way was I going to call the folks and tell them the house is a wreak upon my arrival home. Speaking of which, my house came to view as the cab slowed down. I turned off my IPhone, putting it in my bag that I had put besides me when I entered the cab. Once the vehicle came to a complete stop I got out, grabbed my luggage from the back, paid and thanked the man, then made my way to the front door.
I can't wait to get out of this uniform. Dressing to look sophisticated everyday can be boring. Its not that I had a problem with the outfit. I just like wearing my own style of clothing. Need to mix things up once in a while. Upon approaching the front door I stopped about a foot from it. Knocking Jackie he probably had installed some sort of security system. I put down my bags, walked up to the door to have a better look. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary added outside of the door. Thinking for a moment I decided to go ahead and knock on the door. Figured some camera bot would pop out of a hidden spot in the wall and sure enough it did. The bot got super close to my face. So close that if Jackie were watching from the other side he could see the inside of my nose. Suddenly, I heard Jackie's voice coming from a loud speaker hidden somewhere nearby.
"Who dares enter the premises of Jack Spicer Evil Boy Genius?! State you name and business or be destroyed!"
Typical Jackie.
"Jackie its me, Maxine." I said pushing his camera bot away from my face. "I'm home from boarding school. Didn't mom and dad tell you I was coming back home today?"
"Maxine? Is that really you?"
"Yes Jackie, if you could move your camera bot away from my face you'd see it's me."
The camera bot moved back to have a better look at me from a different angle. I looked up and down at my body. Obviously Jackie wanted to make sure I wasn't someone impersonating his little sister.
"How do I know your really Maxine and not an imposter?"
Typical Jackie.
"You still sleep with a nightlight, your scared of clowns, you had a bed wetting problem till you were twelve, and you have a panic attack whenever your away from mom for more then a day. Need I go on or is that enough?"
Silence.
I obviously revealed to much private information but it was the only way to prove I was myself. Well other than reveal my birthmark on my stomach. No way I was doing that. Its embarrassing of me to show my birthmark to anyone.
The front door opened. Guess Jackie knew I was telling the truth. I went over to grab my bags before entering the house. The inside looked to be together like the outside. Looks like Jackie managed to keep blowing things up to a minimum this time.
"Jackie? Jackie?! Where are you Jackie?" I called out to my brother hoping he'd come out of his hiding spot to greet his little sister from being away for a year. As I walked further into the house I heard the sound of running feet. Jackie was hurrying to see me, but the sound of objects crashing and breaking told me another story. Wonder how many antiques of mom and dads he broke this time.
"Maxine!" Came Jack's voice as his slid past the opening next to me. Crashing into some more furniture. Typical Jackie. He composed himself walking up to the opening with an embarrassed smile on his face. "Forget you saw or heard that okay?"
I couldn't help but giggle as I put my luggage down to give Jackie a big hug. "Nice to see you haven't changed Jackie." I told him as we embraced.
"Nice to see you haven't changed much being in England for a whole year sis." Jack told me. "Though next time you want to prove your not an imposter don't reveal all my embarrassing secrets. What if you had another person with you?"
"Sorry Jackie but you know I'm not comfortable showing my birthmark. Sure that's the easiest way to prove I'm not an imposter but its fun teasing you with all your embarrassing secrets." I told him giggling in the process.
"Oh ha, ha very funny." Said Jack releasing me from the hug.
"Anyway didn't mom and dad tell you I was coming home? They agreed to let me continue my studies online since I'm acing all my classes. Besides, someone needs to make sure you don't destroy the house while mom and dad are away for work." I explained. "I thought they would have called or sent you a letter explaining I was coming back. I know they don't check up on you much but surely they informed you somehow."
"Well I've been pretty busy lately so I haven't gotten to the mail or answered any phone calls that came through." Jack told me. "An evil boy genius has other important priorities to focus on."
"Still trying to take over the world huh Jackie?" I said crossing my arms, showing a sly smirk on my face.
"Hey I'll have you know I'm getting close Maxine. I'm hunting down these objects called Shen Gong Wu which will bring me closer to world domination. Then you'll be eating your words as will everyone else who ever mocked me." Jack sounded determined and confident in himself when he said that. It was nice to see him like this but still highly unlikely to ever happen.
"Uh Jackie, what's Shen Gong Wu? Some sort of magical artifact by the sound of it."
"Oh it is or they are. Magical that is to answer your question. If you were asking me a question but they are magical. Shen Gong Wu are more than one object Maxine. Objects that hold a hidden power that I can use to my advantage to bring me closer to world domination baby." (cue evil laughter)
"And just where do you find these Shen Gong Wu?" I'll be honest I was a little doubtful of what my brother was saying. I've read plenty of science and history books with the occasional fantasy books but nothing I have read ever mentioned these so-called Shen Gong Wu.
"You don't believe me do you?" Jack asked.
"Honestly I'm skeptical of what your trying to explain to me." I replied. "I want to believe you but nothing that I've read has ever brought up the discussion of Shen Gong Wu."
"Ah but what if I show you proof that I have Shen Gong Wu on me? Would you change your outlook and believe me then?"
"If you have any Wu on you I'll believe you."
"Alright Maxine its a deal. To the lab!"
Jackie was pretty excited to show off this Wu he was talking about. It was still questionable to me but I would play along for Jackie's amusement. After all I'm not heartless. I don't purposely be little my brother to make him feel like a loser. I will only ever show fury at him if he's done something beyond stupidity. Luckily that hasn't happened, yet, but if and when it does there will be Hell to pay. We went downstairs where Jack had his lab set up. Guiding me over to the center of the room was a large table with some strange looking objects on it.
The best way to describe the objects is like this. One looked like a long staff with a monkey on the top part. Another object looked like regular chopsticks I'd use whenever we ordered Chinese and the last object was a blanket. A silver colored blanket with hints on black on it but a blanket none-the-less. Jack came up to the table looking excited. Clearly he wanted to share his thoughts with me.
"Okay Maxine prepare to be amazed for I Jack Spicer evil boy genius am about to blow your mind!" Jack sounded confident in himself as he picked up the staff with the monkey on it. "Now watch as I demonstrate the mighty power of...Monkey Staff!"
Upon calling out the name my brother turned into a monkey boy before my eyes. I was sure I was seeing things so I gave my eyes a quick rub but still he remained a monkey. Either I was going crazy or Jack was pulling my leg with one of his gadgets. Eyeing the tail I reached out, grabbed, and gave it a yank. Jack cried out in pain proving this wasn't a gag. That staff had somehow turned Jack into a monkey. I released the tail only to get scowled by Jack for pulling it in the first place. Guess this is what he was trying to tell me upstairs.
"Hold your horses Jackie, I'm sorry for pulling your...tail?" It sounded odd saying it a loud. "I was just checking that this wasn't a joke like when we were little. So this is what you were trying to tell me? That Monkey Staff a you called it. It is a Shen Gong Wu you spoke of?"
"You know it sister~! And that's not all I've got. Each Shen Gong Wu has a different power to it. All I have to do is call out its name and I can use it anyway I want." Jack told me putting down the staff, reversing himself back from monkey to boy. He then demonstrated the power of the other Wu.
The Changing Chopsticks shrunk him down to the size of a grain of rice, almost, figuratively speaking but he was tiny. Next came the Shroud of Shadows turning him invisible. That one impressed me. Being invisible would have given me more privacy from people who were constantly bugging me at school. Sometimes being a prodigy child genius could become a handful. Everyone, students, teachers they were always asking for my help and I barely had time for myself. If I had the Shroud of Shadows back then I could have had more time for myself. Well the past is in the past and I'm home now.
"I've got to hand it to you Jackie these are pretty cool Wu. Where in the world did you find such magical objects?" I had to know. I had to know every little detail to how Jackie acquired such artifacts.
"I'm glad you asked Maxine. You see while you were away at your fancy boarding school, I have been going around the world acquiring all sorts of Shen Gong Wu thanks to the assistance of my new companion."
"Your new companion?"
As if on cue a ghostly purple figure appeared besides Jack. The figure looked to be the length of football with some sort of mask for its face and the hair reminded me of Medusa's. Just watching it move freely like Medusa's snake hair gave me goosebumps. Though that was nothing compared to the voice. It was a deep raspy voice that had this screeching nails on a chalkboard sound. Now that was enough to send chills down my spine and make my eardrums pound. Judging from look of her face she wasn't amused being in her current situation. She scared poor Jackie who obviously didn't expect the element of surprise. By that I mean he got spooked when she popped out of nowhere. Jackie jumped a good foot in the air before running behind me.
"Jack quit fooling around! I am sensing a new Shen Gong Wu. We must hurry before the monks get it." She spoke clearly either ignoring or not noticing me. Course that thought disappeared when she made direct contact with me. "Who are you girl and what are you doing here?"
"I think a better question would be who are you and why are you scaring my brother?" I said which came as a shock to her. Apparently the word brother took her by surprise. Clearly Jackie didn't mention me to his little ghost freak. Not that I was complaining.
"Brother? Wait Jack is your brother?" Her gaze turned to Jack. "You never mentioned you have a sister Jack."
"Well she's been away at a boarding school in England. She just got back a couple minutes ago, and you've never asked me if I had any siblings or not." That was Jack's best excuse to the ghost. Not sure if she was going to let it go and my thoughts were correct.
"Even so just answer me this. Is she anything like you because if she is I'm not babysitting two idiots."
"Excuse me?" This was something I wasn't going to stand for. "Calling my brother and myself idiots? Who are you to call us idiots?! My brother is too good for some ghost hag like you! How about you do us a favor and go haunt someone else!"
Okay not my best comeback. I'm usually quiet and focus on my work or music when I get in the zone. I don't usually yell at people, but anyone who makes fun of my brother, I will not hold back giving them a piece of my mind. Old ghost hag starred at me for a few moments before letting out a dark laugh and smile. Least I'm pretty sure that was a smile.
"This one has spunk, I like her."
"Yep, that's my little sister for you. Girl is all about spunk." Jack said patting me on the shoulder. Praising me like any proud older sibling would. "Anyway what's this about a new Shen Gong Wu, Wuya?"
Wuya, that was the ghost's name? I could think of a few ways to make fun of such a name but I would not say them a loud unless Wuya pushed my buttons. I did not know Wuya as well as Jack probably does but I don't like her. She's loud, rude, and creepy looking. She reminds me of a movie prop used in horror movies, but its not like she can hurt me. More to the point now. There was mention of a new Shen Gong Wu. One of those objects Jackie showed me just now.
"Yes, I sense the Lightning Locket. Whoever possesses it can wield lightning from the palm of their hands." She explained.
"Cool I've always wanted to wield lightning." Jack said thoughtfully.
I shook my head. My brother always wants to do things that sound cool but are actually ridiculous. He's an absent minded kind of guy what can I say? Jackie just wants to look cool. Even if it means making an ass of himself. Honestly Jackie has done so many stupid things with himself its not even funny. I can't even begin to count the countless time our parents have taken him to the emergency room.
Frankly I wasn't sure if I wanted to get involved in this Shen Gong Wu business. Jack seemed to have things under control sort-to-speak. I mean he already had a few Shen Gong Wu on him and honestly I didn't want to be around Wuya.
"Okay well I don't want to hold you up Jackie. You and your uh acquaintance should go ahead and get that Shen Gong Wu. I'm going to my room to unpack my luggage." I told Jack as I started to make my exit. Only Jackie grabbed my arm to stop me.
"Hey wait a minute sis don't go. Why don't you come along and see your big brother in action?" Asked Jack.
"Action? Ha! The only action you ever provide is whimpering in fear and crying out when your Jack Bots are destroyed." Said Wuya making Jack look away sheepishly.
"I don't know Jackie..." I began. Honestly I don't feel like going out when I just got home. Course if I know my brother and I do, any second now he'll be giving me those puppy eyes and telling me why I should go with him. He has this way of guilting me into doing things for him and being a big softy I give in.
"Aw come on Maxine you'll be missing out on some exciting adventure and watching your big brother do what he does best." Said Jack.
"You mean cower in fear and cry for mom?" I said stating a fact which got Jack upset. He had a look on his face. Not the 'I'm going to start crying' but more 'I'll be pouting cause I'm mad at you right now' look.
Wuya just chuckled. She clearly found what I said about Jack funny much to Jack's annoyance.
"Perhaps you should come with us child." Wuya said to me. "You might have better luck at getting me the Wu than your brother."
"Look Wuya was it? Jackie gave me a demonstration of your so-called Wu and while I do find it impressive I've had a long flight from England and just want to relax. Besides Jackie is an inventor. A genius in the robotic world. He'll build something that can get your Wu better than I could." I explained making my way for the stairs; however, Wuya wasn't going to give up so soon and gave chase. She flew besides me and continued being a pest.
"Come now child, haven't you ever wanted to rule the world?"
"Nope."
"Well you could if you help me gather Shen Gong Wu."
"Nope."
"But with Shen Gong Wu you could become a powerful being of unstoppable power."
"Don't care now buzz off."
I shooed Wuya away and made my way upstairs. I thought I was out of the woods when Jackie flew up to me. Curtesy of his helipack grandma gave him last Christmas when he decided to go evil. He got the ability to fly and all I got was a handknitted sweater. It was a thoughtful gift but it was a tad big on me. I found that to be an advantage for creeping up and scaring Jackie. Ah good time, good memories; unfortunately, Jackie brought me back to reality when he called my name while shaking my shoulders.
"Hey, hey, hey come on Maxine. I know it doesn't sound exciting but who knows, you might like hunting for Wu more then you know." Jack began. "Come on I'm not asking for much just to come with me on this one Shen Gong Wu hunt. Please? Do it for your big brother?" He got down begging on his knees and of course he broke out the puppy eyes. Gets me every time.
With a heavy sigh I gave in. Agreeing to accompany Jack to the Shen Gong Wu. This pleased Wuya but I didn't care about her. As long as she keeps her mouth shut along the way so I could listen to my music then I'm good. Jack got up on his feet, took my hand, dragging me down the stairs somewhere. My guess is if we were going to travel we were going to need bigger transportation then the helipack.
Jack dragged me past so many inventions and machines that took up space in the lab. It wasn't hard to tell what was completed and what was still a work in progress. I could tell by first glance. Sure Jackie was dragging/running me past everything but I have a photographic memory. It takes me one look to remember what I've seen and I have to admit Jackie certainly kept himself busy down here. Is it any wonder the guy hardly ever gets out.
We soon slowed down stopping in front of a large aircraft. Jackie told me this would be our transportation to the Wu. Said he made a couple upgrades to it yesterday. Giving it an extra speed boost and turbo charge. The guy apparently had a need for speed. He pointed out the extra speed would help us get to the Shen Gong Wu faster. Guess we'll soon find out.
Ending the chapter on a cliffhanger
The rest of Maxine's first adventure shall continue in the next chapter
