9:57 A.M. – Somewhere in Hawaii

As he gazed out across the vistas of Hawaii, he couldn't help but chuckle to himself.

After all, he'd thought up a real hum-dinger of a scheme this time around.

Naturally, like most of the spies' rogues' gallery, he'd heard through the grapevine that two of his most hated of the spies were engaged.

So, then the next question came to mind: how to antagonize them, specifically?

Then, he remembered Mat was originally from Hawaii, and Alex had always wanted to visit there.

And thus was his latest plan ready to unwind.

As he continued to lay low while searching for his target, he couldn't help but chuckle to himself.

"How am I so brilliant?" Kyle Katz laughed to himself.

Eventually, he found something worthy of stealing, though he decided to sit back and wait to actually steal it until the spies were on his tail.

He wanted this one to hurt Mat, after all.

Totally Spies: The New Adventures

Episode 66: Sentimental Showdown

Story Rated: T for Teen

Story Created: September 24th, 2022

Story Summary: The ninety-third co-op project between Mat49324 and The Blue Time Ranger and episode sixty-six of our mission-based series Totally Spies: The New Adventures. Kyle Katz is back on the scene, but this time he's stealing things from Hawaii, much to Mat's dismay. Naturally, the spies are off to put Kyle in his place, but when Blaine panics using a new gadget, it backfires and hurts Mat. Of course, that leaves Sam suspicious and Clover on the defensive, not a good thing when you're dealing with a criminal as slippery as Kyle. And with Blaine pulled from the mission and the team down two members, they're gonna have to give it their all to stop Kyle from stealing irreplaceable Hawaiian treasures...

Author's Notes from Mat49324: Well, after we finished The Sticky Stalker Situation, it's time for our next project, which will hit home for Mat – and Alex in a way. If you know from the TV series that Alex has said Hawaii is her dream destination, I think you may figure out where this mission's taking the spy team to. Need a hint? Reference what she says in S1's The Getaway. If you keep on reading, you might learn a little something about Hawaiian culture and lifestyle; otherwise, if you've been there, maybe you know a few things already. On another note, we're just 7 projects away from 100 co-op projects between us overall, and when we reach 100, that'll be a milestone for the both of us; simultaneously, once I get to 116 projects, I'll reach 100 TS projects authored alone. When will that happen? Who knows. Anyway, here's The Blue Time Ranger for anything he'd like to say.

Author's Notes from The Blue Time Ranger: We're getting close to a hundred co-op projects together, and that's quite the milestone. Looking back to my old S.P.D. Gold Ranger account, there's a lot of those older stories that I just can't stand anymore (example: what in the hell was I thinking with the Sonic crossover?!), but I'd like to redo some of them someday now that I'm so much better at this than I was at 16. But, for right now, we're headed off to Hawaii for another scrap with so-called "ladies' man" Kyle Katz. I don't have much else to say, so let's ROLL IT!

And Now, the Obligatory Disclaimer: Mat49324 and The Blue Time Ranger do not own anything related to Totally Spies or any of its affiliations. It belongs solely to Marathon Media Group, Image Entertainment Corporation, Vincent Chalvon-Demersay, and David Michel. The only things of this story we DO own are any characters created by us truly for the story (in this case, Nick, Haruka, Bridget, May, Nozomi, Dawn, and Melissa on my side, and Mathew on his side). Any characters or things we don't own, we are just borrowing with no intent of copyright infringement, only for the entertainment of our readers. Besides, if we did own Totally Spies, which we don't, why would we be writing fiction on a fan site?

Act 1: Sun, Surf and Scoundrels

1:49 P.M. – Malibu University

It was another usual day at the Mali-U campus. Some of the spies had finished some lunch a little while ago, and some were cooling off at the penthouse pool. Melissa, Dawn, and Nozomi were already in the pool while Alex, Britney, and Clover were tanning as well.

Sam, Haruka, Bridget, and May were the only ones with non-class duties – Sam with a shift at the Mali-U café, and Haruka, May, and Bridget had some water polo practice to prepare for their season pretty soon. Blaine had beach volleyball practice himself. Nick and Mat had a weekly desk meeting at the Mali-U student paper that just ended, but as they left, Nick immediately noticed Mat was less than happy with something, and it wasn't hard to figure out it was Mat's Supercross season.

"Bro, you've been pretty hush-hush lately," Nick replied, trying to get Mat to open up.

("Numb Little Bug" by Em Beihold plays)

"Honestly, this 2009 Supercross season has been more frustrating than exciting for me," Mat sighed. "If it wasn't for the Lites West title chase being one to watch, I'd be bored as hell..."

"It couldn't be that bad, huh?" Nick wondered.

"I don't know," Mat sighed again. "Ever since Phoenix, I had so much hope and that's being squashed like a bug! James Stewart's on a 7-race win streak... new points leader by 3... and Chad Reed hasn't even led a lap since the Anaheim opener!"

Since that Anaheim 1 opener, which was won by JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) Yamaha's Josh Grant #33, it had been all James Stewart on his #7 San Manuel Yamaha. After Anaheim 1 where Suzuki's Chad Reed crashed with James Stewart and finished 3rd to Stewart's 19th, what was once an 18-point gap after round 1 for Reed was no more. James Stewart had taken his 7th consecutive win of the 2009 season after the last race in Atlanta; Chad Reed had to settle for 7 straight 2nd place finishes, but suffered terrible starts since round 3 at Anaheim 2 when he crashed after the first turn.

Nick remembered very well over the weekend how PO'd Mat was at Atlanta when Chad Reed nailed the holeshot in his heat race, only to goof up his start in the main while James Stewart ran away with yet another win. He remembered Mat was completely aggravated after that since that told the whole story of why Chad Reed had yet to take a win on that Suzuki and was forced to battle for 2nd place with Kawasaki rookie Ryan Villopoto #2.

Atlanta was career win #32 for Stewart, but more importantly, he was now the new points leader after Chad Reed took the points lead after his come-from-behind ride to 2nd at Anaheim 2 during his string of 2nd place finishes, and round 1 winner Josh Grant had his results go every which way.

"I've never seen this side of Chad Reed before because this was NEVER a problem for him... EVER!" Mat complained.

It was obvious to Nick that Mat was really running out of patience.

"Everyone has their bad runs sometimes, honestly," Nick quipped. "I remember this one football team I really liked as a kid. Their kicker usually always had really good seasons, but there was one year that he kinda sucked at it. He was back to normal the year after, but people really lost their patience with him after that."

"Did you?" Mat wondered.

"Not really," Nick answered. "Most players usually have a slump year that they just have to get out of their system. It's one of the many things I learned about sports."

"I guess I got some hope after Atlanta, but that race was just too frustrating," Mat added. "I guess the only good part is that it hasn't affected my grades."

"Hey, man, I'm glad you haven't shut out Melissa and Britney... and especially Sam!" Nick replied.

"You didn't have to tell me at all," Mat quipped. "They saw how pissed I got, too..."

"But I won't disagree what you said about the West Lites series being something to watch," Nick replied as they went back to the penthouse.

"Yeah indeed," Mat stated, feeling better on talking about that. "Jake Weimer's been showing me something, but seeing Jason Lawrence go through even more trouble is proving me right that he let that Lites West title go to his head, but it seems like Ryan Dungey has shown he's not intimidated by anything – especially at Anaheim 3."

"Holy crapbaskets, that was a showdown," Nick laughed, remembering how that particular race had gone down near the end.

Both of the boys had made it to the penthouse to see all the fun going on between who was there.

"HELP SHE'S TRYING TO YANK MY LEGS OFF!" Melissa shouted as she frantically swam away from Dawn, who was swimming towards her with a very teasing look on her face.

"Dawn got splashed pretty hard earlier, and now Melissa's losing her head over it," Nozomi giggled. "Honestly, these two are a pair."

"Yeah, but a pair of what?" Alex laughed.

Sam was just walking out in her light pink one-piece swimsuit when she noticed Mat and was understandably worried for her fiancée.

"I sure hope you're okay after last Saturday, Mat-honey," Sam told him.

"You ever feel like you got your hopes up like I did?" Mat wondered.

"Well, we're all behind you, Mat," Melissa spoke up. "We're not giving up on Chad Reed, either."

"Hey, dude," Nick stated as he changed to his swim shorts. "I have to ask you – how can you tell these certain things just by looking at Chad Reed?"

"Yeah, I was wondering the same thing," Melissa added.

"When you've followed a sport as long as I have, you just know," Mat quipped.

"Well, that's legit," Alex replied.

"I'm certainly hoping next week at Indianapolis will be the one where I'm grinning widely," Mat stated.

"For our sake, we hope so, too," Nozomi replied. "Especially after how frustrated you looked, too."

Sam was the most worried at that time...

3:01 P.M. – The Spies' Penthouse

The Previous Saturday

It was the Atlanta Supercross and Mat had been grinning widely at seeing Suzuki's Chad Reed rocket out of the gate in his heat race.

"I think this could be the one," Mat replied with a big grin on his face.

Reed put in a lot of hard laps after a brief battle with Team Kawasaki rookie Ryan Villopoto on his #2 KX450F and easily won the heat race. At this time, Chad Reed and James Stewart were tied for the points lead at 152 each, but Stewart was on a 6-race win streak, while Chad Reed was going through a 5-race run of terrible starts and leading zero laps since that Anaheim 1 battle.

"He looks fast, I'll give him that," Haruka commented.

"Let's see if that speed can help him out," Bridget quipped.

"This coming from the speed master herself?" Nick teased.

"My dear Nick, if there's anything I've learned from track and field, it's that speed isn't the only thing that gets you places," Bridget proclaimed.

Sadly, when the main came around, Chad Reed's chances at the win were already diminished when Team Yamaha's Josh Hill #75 jumped the gate, and Chad was a half-second late out of the gate. Stewart took the holeshot and closed the door on a battle for the win.

Upon seeing the start, Mat was completely aggravated and fell backwards with his hands on his head.

"...my dude," Nick stated.

"Ouch," May quipped.

"I feel ya on that one," Melissa noted.

"THAT'S the trouble!" Mat chastised. "The starts! I had so much hope after Anaheim and Phoenix, and this is now SIX FRIGGIN' RACES IN A ROW that Chad Reed doesn't get a good start! I AM SO FREAKING SICK OF THIS!"

From that point on, Reed had to fight up to 2nd place for the seventh race in a row and made a handful of mistakes. Mat seeing James Stewart take the checkered flag for his 7th straight win of the 2009 season was just as painful as that meant that #7 Yamaha was the new points leader with 177 to Reed's 174 after Chad Reed took command after his come-from-behind ride to 2nd place at Anaheim 2 after crashing on the opening lap and putting in lap times TWO SECONDS FASTER than James Stewart.

As the live broadcast came to an end, Mat stormed away in complete disgust, much to Sam's worry.

"I wish there was something we could do," Britney replied.

"As much as I wish to as well, I'm afraid all we CAN do is what Mat's doing – wait and see," May sighed.

"Even if Chad Reed's having a bad year, I know that's not the end of it," Nick quipped. "Sometimes, you've just gotta get the bad luck out of the way and you're gold."

"Yeah, I don't think it's time to call it quits on Reed yet," Dawn proclaimed.

Sam immediately went to find Mat, who had just gone to their dorm room. Nick noticed this and was immediately relieved Mat let Sam in despite how pissed he was.

Just as things got back to reality, Mat then brought up something that happened to Nick during their weekly desk meeting at the Mali-U paper.

"By the way, since nobody's part of the paper like Nick and I are," Mat stated. "Our editor assigned Nick to all girls water polo games until baseball starts."

Nick rolled his eyes at hearing that, but...

"Ooh, Nick's assigned to girls water polo?" a voice asked.

They looked to see that was Haruka who asked that as she, May, and Bridget had returned from water polo practice, and Nick was chuckling in pure embarrassment.

"I wasn't counting on that," Mat immediately stated as everybody started chuckling at the unforeseen circumstances.

"How about that, Nick? That means you get to cover all of our awesomeness!" May laughed as she ran up to hug Nick.

"That also means I'll be watching you, Haruka, so don't even think of trying your usual shenanigans," Nick teased. "Because I'm on to you."

"Oh, are you now?" Haruka giggled.

While the spies all talked about everything under the sun, they seemingly didn't notice part of the penthouse roof opening up to reveal a large metal tube aimed directly towards them.

The instant it attempted to suction the spies up, though, Nick quickly raised his hand to surround everyone with a psychic bubble.

"Keep trying, Jerry," Nick quipped as he waited until the suction stopped to dissipate the bubble. "Maybe one of these days you'll get me with that."

Knowing that it was mission time, the spies all suited up and flew up through the tube themselves.

2:16 P.M. – W.O.O.H.P. Headquarters

Jerry's Office

Once the entire team was assembled in Jerry's office, they got right down to business.

"All right, Jer, who's on the agenda today?" Alex asked.

RiCO did the honors, waving her right hand to change the office viewscreen to a mugshot of Kyle Katz.

"Oh, wonderful, now we have to deal with this chauvinistic weed-whacker again," Mat groaned.

"...huh. That's an image," Sam quipped.

"What wonderfully whacked scheme does he have up his sleeves this time?" Clover wondered.

"Honestly, we're not sure yet," iCO admitted as she appeared in the office as well. "When we found out he'd escaped, RiCO and I tracked him down to somewhere in Hawaii."

"Wait, what the hell is he doing in Hawaii, of all places?!" Mat gasped in surprise.

"I guess that's what we're gonna have to find out," Nick quipped as the spies moved to grab their gadget loadout.

"We've also included a brand new gadget called the Boomerang Bazooka," RiCO told the spies.

"Yes, consider it similar to your Boomerang Buzzsaw Barrettes," Jerry replied. "Except this can program to go after whatever your target is."

"Sounds like a winner," Britney commented.

"I've tested the gadget in the Datascape a thousand times and it didn't backfire," RiCO told the others.

"Well, maybe Kyle Katz will meet his match this way," Sam replied.

When the spies had all settled in and the Skyskimmer took off for Hawaii, Nick couldn't help but notice that Mat looked a little uneasy, no doubt concerned about exactly what the heck Kyle Katz would be up to in Hawaii.

After all, no matter where you are now, you never forget where you grew up, Nick thought. Well, Kyle, if you wanna start something, we'll damn sure be there to put an end to whatever you're planning.

3:17 P.M. – Hawaii

"Ah, Hawaii, my old friend," Alex giggled once the spies touched down at their destination. "I honestly wish this was a vacation visit and not business..."

"I'm sure we'll get our chance," Mat quipped. "For right now, let's find Kyle and kick him out of the state."

Nick closed his eyes and spread his hands out, using his psychic radar to scan the immediate area for any sign of their resident villain.

"Any sign of trouble, Nick?" Melissa asked.

Nick turned a couple times, trying his best to sift through all the thoughts around them, until he picked up on something that sounded suspicious.

"Yeah, yeah, that's definitely a scoundrel," Nick stated. "Follow me, everybody."

Nick dashed off to the southeast with the others in hot pursuit.

Eventually, they found themselves just outside an antiques shop where who else but Kyle Katz could be seen peeking into the store, apparently casing it for something to steal.

"Hmmm... this place has some really nice potential steals," Kyle stated. "Maybe a little too easy, but I gotta wonder if this'll draw those spies here or not..."

Kyle suddenly found himself frozen in place, his body surrounded by a soft yellow light. He glanced backwards to see Nick raising his hand towards him.

"Ding-ding, asshole," Nick proclaimed as he thrust his hand the opposite way, sending Kyle flying away from the store and tumbling to the ground.

"Ah, if it isn't my favorite little shmucks," Kyle laughed once he'd picked himself up. "I suppose you're here for another round of my charm?"

"Oh, gag me with a rusty fork, nutball," May taunted. "We're here to stomp on you and scuttle whatever nasty scheme you've got up those gaudy sleeves!"

"I don't know what exactly you're doing here, Kyle, but it ends here," Mat proclaimed. "I hope you're ready for some pain."

"Oh, please, you little Hawaiian dish, do you really think you're gonna intimidate me?" Kyle laughed. "After all, you know where your so-called 'fiancée' really belongs."

"So that's what this is about?" Alex responded. "Yet another baddie is salty that Sam and I have fiancées now? Can you please get another shtick for once in your life?"

"Yeah, we've kinda had enough of our rogues' gallery basing their schemes on that," Nick stated.

Kyle flashed his infamous smile, hoping to charm at least one of the girls, only to find himself blasted backwards courtesy of a Final Shine Attack from Nick.

"And don't even think of trying that, because it's not gonna work on us," Nick proclaimed.

"Oh, but I have plenty of other tricks up my sleeves," Kyle laughed. "Want me to demonstrate?"

"How about hell to the no?!" May shouted, using her Emergency Gadget Transporter to summon her anchor before tossing it at Kyle like a javelin. Though he dodged it, this gave Melissa an opportunity to pounce on Kyle and keep him distracted while the others thought of a strategy.

Blaine actually noticed the brand new gadget he'd been given and reached to retrieve it, figuring this would be a perfect time to give the new gadget its first field test.

"You can't seriously be thinking of coming to where my roots are and stealing stuff that's virtually irreplaceable!" Mat chastised.

"And how dare you try anything to get my honey-buns to feel uneasy!" Sam growled.

"Whatever it takes to keep me on your consideration list after the first time around," Kyle sneered.

Mat seemed to notice some uneven circular chunks in a couple of the pockets of Kyle Katz's outfit. As a Hawaii resident, it was not hard for Mat to figure out that Kyle Katz had stolen two lava rocks. As a bit of an "ace in the hole," Mat chose to keep quiet about the two rocks in Katz's pockets.

"I don't know what value you find in these, but you're dead before you've even STARTED!" Melissa shouted.

"Plus, I didn't want to come back home under these circumstances either!" Mat complained.

"There's always a first," Kyle sneered.

"And right away, I can see you're starting out pretty skeptically by robbing a place in broad daylight," Bridget taunted.

"You won't get far anyway," Mat proclaimed. "It's a small island. Word gets around!"

Kyle Katz just scoffed as if he didn't believe a word Mat said; simultaneously, Alex made a mental note of that since Hawaii is her dream destination after all.

"Seems like the 'local boy' has got a valid point," Nick commented.

"Not really," Kyle sneered. "Now if you'll excuse me..."

That was when he turned his back and Clover used her Expandable Cable Bungee Belt as a makeshift lasso to tie up Kyle Katz.

"Not so fast..." Clover quipped.

"You think you're gonna find anything worth stealing to you, you better think again, buddy boy!" Mat added.

Katz came prepared with an ax and used them to cut himself free from Clover's ECBB.

"You even think about stealing any artifacts, you're going through us!" Alex remarked.

Katz scoffed again and proceeded to his burglary, but Nick used a psychic shot to stop Katz before he even got started.

"If only our rogues' gallery was that easy," Haruka commented.

"Don't even think of trying..." Nick warned.

"If that's all you're going to do to stop me, I should have it easy then," Kyle sneered as he proceeded anyway.

"I wouldn't think so!" Blaine proclaimed as he executed using the Boomerang Bazooka on Kyle Katz.

"Blaine, wait a..." Nozomi started, but she never finished her sentence.

Blaine fired a shot out from the barrel and it went every which way, especially around Kyle Katz.

"Come on, work, you stupid thing!" Blaine shouted as he fired again, and this time, the boomerang seemed to fire in the direction he wanted...

...only for the boomerang to violently change course and strike Mat in the shoulder, flooring him almost immediately.

"Mat!" Sam exclaimed.

"Oh, crapbaskets!" Melissa shouted as everyone moved to check on Mat.

After all that happened, Kyle Katz's motivation was lost.

"I'm outta here," Katz groaned and did his tactical retreat.

"Well, at least we diffused that possible robbery," May commented.

It was a hollow victory as Melissa and Britney were checking Mat out. Simultaneously, Haruka was also getting on her X-Powder to call Jerry. When Blaine saw what happened to Mat, he was freaking out inside.

"Oh, that's just great..." Nick chastised while waiting for Jerry to get them back. "Mat knows this state better than any of us!"

"I think the priority question is: is Mat gonna be all right?" Bridget asked. Mat was hissing in pain, clutching the spot on his shoulder where the boomerang had struck him. "Because that looked like it hurt."

"Is everything all right, spies?" Jerry asked once Haruka had gotten through.

"We may have a bit of a problem, Jer," Haruka replied. "Thankfully, Kyle didn't steal anything, as far as we know, but the Boomerang Bazooka malfunctioned and Mat got injured by it!"

"Are you sure it backfired?" RiCO asked. "I tested that thing who knows how many times, after all."

"You know what they say, RiCO," Nick quipped. "No true battle plan ever survives first contact with the enemy."

"A chopper is on the way to bring Mat back to headquarters," Jerry proclaimed. "Given what we know Kyle would do to take advantage of Mat's injury, I've decided it's better if he sits this one out."

"Just keep him safe, okay, Jerry?" Sam asked.

"You don't have to worry about a thing, Sam," RiCO responded.

"Also, Blaine, we'd like you to come back with us, please," Jerry stated.

Of course, Blaine started freaking out again, knowing what Jerry was probably thinking. "Jerry, I swear up and down that it was just an accident, and..."

"Relax, Blaine, nobody's accusing you of anything, all right?" RiCO responded to calm Blaine down. "Maybe we just missed something about that gadget. It did just dawn on me that despite all the testing I did in the Datascape, sometimes things might go wrong in the real world regardless..."

After a short time, the chopper in question came to pick up both Mat and Blaine and take them back to Beverly Hills, leaving the eleven remaining spies to continue their investigation.

"Ooh, boy, this one could be tricky," May quipped.

"How do you figure?" Britney asked.

"We all know that Kyle's a slippery little bastard," May answered. "And even with Nick's psychic radar to guide us, it's probably gonna be tough to find our way around Hawaii without the one guy who's actually lived here before."

"Guess all we can do is play things by ear until we can get somewhere," Bridget quipped.

What most of the spies didn't seem to notice was that Sam was glancing towards Clover with a rather suspicious look on her face. Clover didn't notice, either, too busy searching around for any sign of Kyle.

When the spies moved towards the beach, Nick's X-Powder suddenly started beeping. Wondering if Jerry had any updates for them, Nick opened his X-Powder up.

"What's up, Jerry? Any updates?" Nick asked.

"...well, I don't know if this is weird or not, but we found someone skulking around on the roof of headquarters," RiCO replied. "I think you might know her?"

Before Nick could ask what that meant, RiCO switched the video feed to one of her drones at the very tip-top of the W.O.O.H.P. building, which was showing a certain green-haired catgirl aiming her claws towards other flying drones around her.

"Stsh ify wtrec pka!" Momo shouted in her alien dialect as she prepared to slash at one of the drones.

"W-whoa, whoa, Momo, calm down!" Nick exclaimed.

Upon hearing Nick's voice, Momo relaxed her posture and stared curiously into the drone's camera lens. "...Nick? Is that you?" Momo asked. "Where are you guys right now?"

"We're... well, we're in a completely different state right now for a mission," Nick answered. "I could be asking you the same question, Momo. How'd you get on top of W.O.O.H.P. Headquarters?"

"Well, I was just jumping around the city and I found myself here, and suddenly a bunch of flying drones started surrounding me," Momo explained. "And... to be honest, I thought I'd been caught by my family."

"You really don't seem to get along with your family right now, huh?" May quipped.

"It's... complicated," Momo admitted.

"How about we talk about that when we get back home?" Nick stated. "We've got a nutball to find and stomp on."

"You always seem to, huh?" Momo giggled. "Well, I won't keep you, then."

With that said, Momo kneeled down before leaping away just before the X-Powder screen cut back to RiCO in Jerry's office.

"You guys make some interesting friends, huh?" RiCO giggled. She knew about Momo, as she'd seen her helping the spies fight off Violet and Sunny's mold monster at The Groove.

"Tell me about it," Nick chuckled before tensing up and glancing to the southwest.

"What is it, Nick? Trouble?" Alex asked.

"Nailed it right on the head," Nick responded. "I'm sensing the thoughts of mister creepy smile about fifteen yards that-a-way, so let's make with the haste!"

That was all they needed to dash off in that direction, and sure enough, there was Kyle, clutching two lava rocks, one in each palm.

"Hey, freakball, you lost?" Alex taunted.

"Oh, real clever, girlie," Kyle chuckled. "I think you're the ones who are about to be lost, considering you seem to be down two meddlers."

"It's still eleven on one," Nozomi responded. "Now just come quietly and take your lumps already!"

"Sorry, but I have an appointment with other, more valuable things right now," Kyle quipped, gesturing to the two lava rocks in his hands.

"Maybe you'll listen after tasting some speed," Bridget proclaimed as she reached for her brooch. "Sonic Mode, online!"

"Get a new gimmick, girl," Kyle laughed as Bridget transformed into Sonic Mode. "Your outfit may be different, but I've seen what you can do, and I'm not impressed anymore."

In response, Bridget just winked. "Then prepare to be shocked, because I've learned some new tricks since the last time we kicked your keester."

Before Kyle could respond, Bridget took off like a lightning bolt, running circles around Kyle and generating trails of kinetic energy as she did so. After a few more cycles, Bridget skidded to a stop and snapped her fingers, causing all of her gathered kinetic energy to explode outward and floor Kyle instantly, also causing him to drop the lava rocks.

Nick reached out to catch the lava rocks with his psychic hold and place them in his Jetpack Backpack for safe-keeping.

"Now, what was that you were saying?" Nick taunted as the spies prepared for battle.

Kyle Katz was pretty mixed on the lava rocks getting away.

"Believe us when you crossed a line messing with where my honey-bunches is originally from!" Sam growled.

"Oh, I'd like to think I took the 'heart and soul' of your mission out," Kyle sneered. "And made room for myself..."

With that, he even flashed his hunky smile at the girls, but none of them were fazed at all.

"Rules for villains, number ninety-two," May quipped as she got her trusty anchor out. "Using good looks NEVER works!"

She hurled her anchor at Katz and was able to knock a tooth out with an anchor to the mouth. To say that Katz felt that was a real understatement. Simultaneously, a big statue near one of many of Hawaii's beaches caught Katz's eye, specifically a big surfboard the statue held.

"Don't even think about it..." Melissa warned.

Kyle simply took a step closer just to spite Melissa, only to be floored by a Final Shine Attack courtesy of Nick.

"When a lady tells you no, you listen," Nick proclaimed.

After jumping back to his feet, Kyle found himself getting knocked around again and again by Bridget, who was still in Sonic Mode.

This gave Sam, Alex, and Clover ample opportunity to blast Kyle with Cyclone Blast Hairdryers at the same time, sending him flying backwards.

"Ready to face the music, mister lame smile?!" Alex exclaimed.

4:22 P.M. – W.O.O.H.P. Headquarters

Jerry's Office

Jerry, RiCO, and the W.O.O.H.P. medical staff were busy checking out Mat; fortunately, his shoulder did not appear to be too damaged, but Mat was obviously sore from being hit by the ammo.

Simultaneously, Blaine couldn't even form any words, even though Mat was perfectly lucid.

"Jer, I'm not pissed at Blaine," Mat replied. "I don't think anybody could have seen that coming."

"Well, nonetheless, Blaine, please see me now," Jerry stated as Blaine gulped.

"But I also need to pass something along to Nick, too," Mat replied, sounding like it was very urgent.

"I'll give Nick the message," RiCO told Mat as she awaited what he had to say.

"Jerry, I'm serious, I never meant for this to happen," Blaine stated, and it was quite clear that he was panicking. "I didn't think that boomerang was going to backfire as bad as it did, you've gotta believe me!"

"Blaine, you need to calm down," Jerry responded.

"Even worse, I saw Sam give me a dirty look before we left, and that probably means she thinks I did that on purpose!" Blaine shouted.

"Blaine, please, control yourself," Jerry proclaimed. "We know that you would never do something like this on purpose. Maybe the Boomerang Bazooka just needs to either be tested some more or possibly fixed."

"So, stealing the lava rocks is bad luck then?" RiCO wondered, making sure the message was correct.

"Yes, indeed," Mat replied. "Take it from me – I never stole one, but as someone who was born in Hawaii, that spells bad luck until Katz returns the rocks."

"Acknowledged," RiCO stated. "I'll give Nick and the others the message."

"If Kyle Katz still has the lava rocks, let that be his downfall," Mat added.

With that, RiCO dematerialized and even put up a viewscreen of the state of Hawaii for Mat to pinpoint where the spies were.

"That's the Duke Kahanamoku Statue!" Mat remarked, immediately recognizing that landmark.

He then got on his Nintendo DS to get an early word to Sam and the others that Katz was likely to steal something from the statue.

5:01 P.M. – Waikiki, Hawaii

"We're going to end you now, Katz!" Alex proclaimed as she threw a Boomerang Buzzsaw Barrette towards Kyle. Though he dodged it, this gave May the chance to attack, swinging her anchor at Kyle multiple times before finally connecting on the last him and sending him sprawling.

"Now get up," May challenged.

During the battle was when Nick, Haruka, and Sam found an opening to hear their X-Powders go off and RiCO's message from Mat appeared on the screen, which got Sam and Nick thinking about a new game plan regarding the lava rocks and Kyle Katz having bad luck without him knowing it.

"You know, I can steal things while you're busy thinking of a plan," Kyle taunted as he made another move for the board in the Duke Kahanamoku Statue's hand, only to be yanked back by Nick's psychic hold.

"Also, maybe don't blab about what you're going to do when you're right in front of us," Nick quipped.

Despite Kyle trying to stay calm, Nick could easily read his thoughts, and he seemed upset about something.

What's going on here? I'm supposed to be the ultimate slippery escape artist, and yet ever since I took those lava rocks, I haven't been able to shake off these damned spies!

Check and mate, ya weasel, Nick thought.

"Well, it seems like I'll have to make a tactical retreat for right now," Kyle proclaimed as he decided to cut his losses. "I'll see you around, ladies."

With one last wink, Kyle threw down a flashbang to cover his escape.

"Well, well, looks like Mat was spot on with his idea," Nick proclaimed. "I mind-read Kyle before he chickened out, and he's already got some bad luck going on."

"And that means we can use it to our advantage!" May laughed. "Oh, it's so satisfying when that shoe's on the other foot for once!"

"Right now, though, we'd better start chasing after him," Haruka stated. "Just to make sure he doesn't try and steal anything else."

As the eleven spies set off to chase after Kyle, Nick couldn't help but think about Mat, hoping he was all right. He knew Blaine wouldn't do something like that on purpose, so he figured it was probably just a gadget malfunction.

But Nick did notice the strangely suspicious looks that Sam was giving Clover every now and then.

I just hope we can squash that problem before it gets out of hand, Nick thought. Because I can see that getting, potentially, really ugly.

On the next episode...

RiCO: All right, let's see if we can do some troubleshooting here. I was so sure I did enough testing, too...

iCO: Maybe there's something we missed. The old saying is that it's always the last thing you expect it to be.

RiCO: Are you ready, sis?

iCO: Fire away.

Alex: Any sign of him?

Bridget: Well, if that don't beat all.

Nick: What's the matter, Kyle? Did you have some bad luck?

Kyle: Oh, real funny. Now put me down this instant.

Nick: Well, he insisted. We'll give you some more lumps next time on Totally Spies: Sentimental Showdown, "If Only You Were Lucky"!

Haruka: Once again, I have to compliment the set department and the banger job they did in updating the Datascape.

May: If only they could put that kind of effort into giving us a scriptwriter that doesn't constantly saddle us with crappy puns...

Nick: They haven't done that so far this season, May.

May: Yeah, well, I'm not pushing my luck.
