A sweet song (Asoiaf SI)
BlackfishThe boy was acting differently. Robert or "Sweetrobin '' as my niece called him had always been prone to tantrum and at the age of six was still sucking at his mothers teats yet since his father died he had changed. Though people's fathers dying do tend to change them it was more than that.
There was a light in his eyes I had never seen before and where these types of things bring people closer to their mothers Robert had grown distant to my niece.
Lysa of course did not like that. He snorted derisively when the thought popped into his mind he was quite glad that little Robert had grown into his own, visiting the training yard daily, though the boy could still not yet hold a sword.
That did not mean that he could not watch. and every day he sat on a bench next to the yard and observed. And it was there he found him watching giddily as Ser Vardis expertly struck down one of the better men's arms he brought to the Eyrie at his lord's insistence.
"Uncle!" he exclaimed brightly throwing himself into my arms an act which I could not help but let a hearty chuckle out at "Now that is not very lordlike is it?" I chastised enveloping him in a bear hug "I'm your lord so whatever i do is lordlike uncle" he gave me a wide smile and I could not help but grin his way
"Aye i suppose that's true" Roberts smile widening at that but before the boy spoke he intervened "But true or not don't be a smartass nobody likes a smartass" he warned sternly before ruffling his brown hair and putting him back on the bench
"So Robert" the boy's big blue eyes looking up at him as he called him his new name of choice "I have been meaning to ask you… why did you ask that i bring my 150 best men up with me to the Eyrie?" Robert looked surprised at the question and seemed to think it over for a few seconds fiddling with his little hands before he closed his eyes for a second and started to cry
"I'm scared" he stopped to wipe his face clean of tears "one day father was healthy and the next…" He pressed his aquiline nose into Bryndens leather doublet "what if he gets me too" gets me what the hell did that mean? He put his hands on the sides of Roberts shoulder holding him securely
"What if who gets you?" he asked slightly shaking him "The man who gave it to mother" Brynden was wroth now demanding it from the boy "it was" his voiced descended into a whisper "littlefinger" the moment he said the name he understood what she had done and stormed off from the training yard getting confused stares from everyone 'why, why would you do this my sweet Lysa?' unbeknownst to him the boy called sweetrobin smirked
RobertPlan in place, I waddled slowly over to the training yard, damn these little legs. "Ser Vardis!" I called out in my nasally voice and the knight immediately fell in behind me. Hell yes did it feel good to have power. even in this tiny little body smallfolk treated me like a god if I remembered their names two days in a row.
Smallfolk? Jesus, barely two months in and I was thinking like this. best not let it go to my head. "Yes Lord Arryn?" He asked, looking grim as always. "Christ Ser Vardis cheer up" The man's exceedingly plain face looked down at me inquisitively "Christ?" shit "Nothing just a figure of speech" he seemed to except that
"So what do you wish of me my lord?" I took a deep breath "I need you" I stopped thinking of the best way to phrase this "I wish to borrow a book" He raised his eyebrows "Why don't you just ask Coleman?" Um I don't know, because he helped Littlepenis poison me "He keeps giving me Sweetmilk to calm me down when I try too but I don't want to calm down!" Remember you are a little kid act like it
The silver haired knight sighed "Alright my lord" I put on my best little kid grin "Carry me?"
It took nearly 30 minutes for me to reach the Maesters office on my stubby little legs (Ser Vardis did not carry me). 'damn you george and your piss poor sense of scale' "Alright I believe this is it Ser Vardis if you would be so kind as to kick the door open" The man looked at me as if i was insane, and not for the first time but in the end the man always follows orders.
With a strong kick from the man's armored foot the door went flinging open to reveal the room as empty as it was at this time Coleman usually went on a walk and I immediately went to work on the cabinets remembering where he kept the sweetmilk I replaced it with regular milk. That ought to keep me free for a few days
"I thought you meant to borrow a book?" I nodded my Head "I still do" and I let loose a wicked grin "put me on your shoulders Ser Vardis your lord commands it" obliging he kneeled down and I climbed on top of him. And when he hoisted it up I grabbed the small leather book detailing my doses 'I got you now Littlecock'
