My dear child,

It was but a moment ago that you were feeling the back of your closet and wishing that the wall would disappear, so that you could step through it and enter my sweet country. You wished you could stand before me, and feel my breath upon your face, and run your fingers through my mane, and hear me call you Beloved. You had read about the adventures of the children who came to my world, and you wish you were the one who had been called. "Why was I born here and now?" you said. "Why do I have to live in a world where things are so awful?"

And yet, it is better to be where you are. You are needed in your world; there is a void waiting to be filled that just your size and shape. I have set before you an adventure: one that is good and right and perfect, one that is meant for you alone. There are things for you to do that are not meant for anybody else, and adventures that will make you into the masterpiece you are.

Even as you read that, I can feel the thunder of hope rumbling your heart. But I know it is despondent too. After all, you still read the records of their adventures in Narnia and wonder why you were not part of them. But I did not inspire those records to make you envious of the people who came to my world, or to make you despise the world in which you live. I inspired the records so that you can read them and take heart.

Firstly, you matter. Children from humble surroundings were called to something great, and so are you. Your age, your body, your circumstances, your position, your history, your choices, anything that the world dismisses as a flaw—none of it is wasted, and none of it will stop me from fulfilling my plans for you.

Secondly, you were made for something more than an adventure in a land of Talking Beasts. You were made to give the world the greatest gift you could give: yourself. As you go out into the world, you will shine with the kind of Lion goodness that is uniquely, splendidly, gloriously yours. People will be touched and made better because you walked with them and among them.

Thirdly and finally, there is hope. I was victorious in Narnia, just as I am victorious in your world. No matter how difficult the adventure becomes, or how long the night goes on, or how long the snow falls, remember this and cling to it with all your might. I still made a good world; evils are thwarted before they begin; evils that are allowed to exist, for but a season, will be turned to good. Whatever happens, remember: All shall be right, all shall be right, and all shall finally be right.

Now, then, my child, take heart. Take the adventure that awaits you. And always remember who you are:

Beloved.

With everlasting love,
Aslan
