Dark Desires Ch. 1

Staring at the Welcome to New York sign, Ruby could feel her excitement rising, this was the first time in several years she has taken a vacation, more so to do something other than stay at home and read. Following the map on her phones GPS, she let the cab take her to her hotel, while she wanted to stay in something New York fancy like the Ritz Carlton, it was beyond her budget.

Ruby was doing everything in her power to resist looking around and gawk at everything, knowing that she already was standing out like a sore thumb. Reading about New York from different magazines, and from listening to other that she knew that visited, the basic consensus was to avoid looking like a lost tourist. So, she kept her eyes forward, not looking around too much, and keeping her mind aware of the things around her, but so far, the cab ride wasn't horrible.

Checking her GPS, wanting to make sure that he was heading in the right direction and not taking her to a back alley to sell her kidney, she could feel the relief wash over her as he pulled up in front of the Empire Hotel.

The cabbie watched as she got out handing him his fair, blatantly watching her ass as she got out "Do you need any tips of what to do in the city?" he asked, willing to be her personal guide. He loved the doe eyed tourist, sometimes he could get a little lucky.

Doing her best to keep from rolling her eyes, Ruby cleared her throat, "No thank you. I have friends in the city that are planning on showing me around." Taking her bag out of the back, she quickly made her way inside, doing her best not to look like some star struck hick.

Making her way up to check in, she couldn't help but admire all the marble that was covering the floor, enjoying how her heels clicked across them. The hotel itself wasn't overly gusted up, but that was fine, she wanted something a little upscale, but nothing that would cause her to be in debt for the next few years.

Checking in took a few minutes, but soon she was in the hallway that led to her room, overlooking Central Park. Stepping into the room, she smiled, it had a single queen-sized bed, with deep red bedding, the curtains matching the bedding, but the rest of the room a beautiful neutral color, with black accent furniture. Flopping onto the bed, Ruby couldn't help but feel amazed that she actually was doing something so spontaneous and fun.

Before she dozed off, she could hear her phone buzzing, groaning a bit, she really wanted to get some rest, for tomorrow she had a big day planned to explore the city. Taking a second to look at the ID, she couldn't help but roll her eyes, picking up the phone, she read the text, sucking her teeth in frustration.

Mom: I can't believe you went to that God forsaken city. When are you coming home?
Ruby: Mom, I just got here, I'm on vacation for the next week, I'll be home in 10 days. I love you.
Mom: Wasn't there anything closer to home? I just want you safe Ruby.
Ruby: I know mom. Look, I'm tired, I'll text you tomorrow. Love you.
Mom: I love you too, I'll pray for you.

Shaking her head, she tossed the phone towards the nightstand, frustrated that at 24 years old her mom still felt it necessary to treat her like a child. Perhaps it was her fault, always the good girl, never disobeying anyone, never missing a day of school, hell she even went to college to become an elementary teacher. The only reason that she could afford this trip was because she still lived with her mom, it also helped that she saved every dime she ever made, and never bothered really going anywhere or doing anything. She truly was so boring and bland.

Closing her eyes, she was tired, mentally and physically. This trip wasn't just about going somewhere new or exciting, but trying to find herself a bit, experience things that she would normally avoid like the plague. It was her time to live her life, and perhaps do something stupid, like get a tattoo, or hell even meet a guy. Snorting at the last one, she wasn't ugly, but her natural shy demeanor didn't have the guys beating down her door.

Her last thought before she fell asleep was just to live her life, and even for a little while pretend that she was a normal 20 something adult that just wanted to have a little fun.

Deacon stared at Dragonetti, hating the man, but because he was a pureblood, he couldn't just rip out his heart and show it to him before he turned to ash. Tonight's lecture was on how he shouldn't be holding raves, it brought too much attention from the humans, and the Daywalker. Doing his best not to inherently piss off the man, Frost just stared at the man, his frustrations growing with every fucking word that left his mouth.

"Are you listening to me Frost?" he asked, his voice trying to hold authority over the man.

What he wanted to say was no, but that would only cause trouble, and for now, he was considered beneath him because he was a bitten, he was only able to have so much power within his house. "I am Gitano, but this isn't the ancient world you cling to, it's the modern one."

Stepping towards his subordinate, "What do you know about the ancient world, you were born human, I was born a vampire. I've lived over 10 lifetimes." He said, his voice condescending.

He could feel his nails growing, itching to rip out his heart, but until he was able to secure somethings, for now he would just placate the man and the House of Erebus. Shrugging his shoulders, "You have more of a population of bitten then you do of purebloods, showing a little concession every now and then, helps them stay in line."

Snorting at the man, if Frost wasn't so smart or business minded, he would have killed him a long time ago. Resisting the urge to kill him, "Your kind wouldn't even exist without us Purebloods, you owe us your eternal lives." His eyes finding his assistant walking into his office, "What are you doing in here?" he asked the human woman.

Looking down, "You said tell you when you are 2 hours from sunrise, it's 2 hours until sunrise master." She said, keeping her eyes low. She was his familiar, and if she served him well, perhaps he would change her or Deacon would, which wouldn't be so horrible the man was very handsome.

Deacon could almost smell her desperation, it was pathetic. Not even bothering to look at her, "Are we done here?" he asked Gitano, ready to get to his loft.

Rolling his eyes at him, "Yes. You're clubs better not cause any issues with the humans." Making a move to stand, he headed towards his private elevator and towards his home, what he needed more than anything was a good cup of blood and rest.

Deacon stood and walked out the assistant following him like a lost puppy, but when she touched his arm, he turned grabbing her by the throat and lifting her off the floor. "Do not touch me human." Leaning into her neck he could smell her fear, "You belong to Gitano, not me, which you should be grateful for, because I would have killed you by now." He growled into her ear, tossing her on the floor.

Hitting the button to shut the shields to prevent the sunlight from getting into his home, Deacon drank deeply from his glass, enjoying how the blood soothed the ache in his throat, but it wasn't as satisfying from drinking it fresh, but tomorrow he would head to his club, enjoy a little fun, before he started working on a plan that would get rid of the Daywalker, give him a little power, and perhaps find a way to use the humans, and not lose a food source by killing them.

He could feel the sun rising, as a vampire, he was programmed somewhere in his DNA to avoid it at all cost, laying down on the bed, he let his body drift to his day slumber, his mind racing from all the possibilities of what if.

Ruby carefully brushed her hair, looking at herself in the mirror, mentally she wanted to try something new, but habit was to put her hair up in braid, fighting that urge, she piled her hair on tip of her head in a nice bun, while it wasn't something that was drastic, it was still something a bit different for her.

Standing up, she looked down at herself, smirking at her clothes, her normal attire were sundresses when it was warm, and sweater dresses when it was cold. Not today, she was wearing a pair of tight jeans, and a simple but nice yellow polo style shirt, slipping on her sneakers, she gave herself a once over, smiling at her reflection, she actually looked like an average woman, not some librarian.

Giving herself another once over, her blonde hair was piled neatly on her head, her bright green eyes reflecting back at her, while she wanted to add some make-up, she was so far removed from the ability of using it the only thing she was able to apply was lip gloss. Shaking her head, she grabbed her small crossbody purse, and headed out the door, today she was going to the museum, while it wasn't something exciting, per say, it was 100x better than anything in her hometown of Lake City, Minnesota.

Several hours and a million pictures later, she was starving, heading outside, she found a hotdog vendor, while she wasn't sure that this was going to be good, she gave it a shot. Finding a little bench, she overlooked the city, people were moving with such intensity, it was an amazing sight.
Finishing up the hotdog, Ruby stood tossed her trash away, as she turned to walk towards the hotel, she bumped into something big and hard, gasping, "Oh, excuse me." She said to the person she bumped.

Krieger looked down at the small woman, she was barely 5'3, her green eyes shone brightly with concern for him, smirking she would be perfect for Deacon, perhaps if he sent her to Blood Rave tonight, it would prove to his master that he was able to provide for him, getting him one step closer to being turned. "No worries, ma'am." Giving her a once over, she was gorgeous, her body had the shape of an hourglass, too bad, if he was a vamp, he'd keep her for himself, but it's not like he didn't have the chance soon enough.

Ruby looked up at the man, realizing that she walked right into an officer, "Oh God, I'm sorry, if it's not obvious I'm not from around here." She said to him. Hoping that he didn't think that she was some idiot tourist.

Waving his hand, "Don't worry about." Extending his hand "Office Jay Krieger, you?" smiling at her. If he did this right, she would go to Blood Rave, ask for Deacon, and tell him he was the one that sent her, all he wanted to do was please his master.

Taking his hand, at least cops everywhere were kind and nice, "Ruby Edwards, pleasure to meet you sir." Not sure if it was OK to call him by his first name.

Smirking down at her, oh she was going to be catnip to his master, all polite, "You can call me Jay." Looking around he needed to get on patrol, but he was going to do what he could to send her to his master. "So, I usually don't tell this to tourists, but you seem pretty sweet, there's a night club, in Manhattan called Blood Rave," pulling out the card, handing it to her, "if you are looking for a good time, the owner Deacon Frost, tell him I sent you, he'll make sure you have a fun time."

Tentatively taking the card, she looked up at him, "And why don't you tell tourists?" She asked him. Naturally curious.

"It's an exclusive club, they don't just let anyone in, and I'm a partner of sorts, so I like to make sure that the club is filled with a higher class of people." Mentally rolling his eyes, but there wasn't anything he wasn't willing to say to get her to go. "If you have the clothes, I recommend you go have fun, if not, no big deal."

Realizing that he was implying she might not fit in, covering up her embarrassment pretty well, she looked at him, his blue eyes watching her intently, almost like he was testing her. Trying to recover herself a bit, "Perhaps I will." Clearing her throat, "Will you be there?" she asked him.

Not in a million years would he go to a vampire club until he was a vampire, but she didn't need to know that. "Yeah, probably after midnight." Smiling at her.

Shaking off some of her nerves, she smiled at him, "I guess I'll see you then." Looking at her watch, if she was going to go out, she needed rest. "I'm going to head back to my hotel."

Looking down at her, grateful that he was able to convince her to go, "See you tonight, Ruby." With a light shake of her hand, he headed to his patrol car, ready to start his shift.

As she watched him drive off, Ruby realized that she didn't have any clothes for an exclusive club. Pulling up something on her phone, she smiled when she found a shop right next to her hotel. Hailing a cab, she headed back, figured that she could grab something nice and different, and still have plenty of time to get some rest.

Grateful that it didn't take long to find something for herself, but she didn't just leave with a dress, heels, and matching lingerie, not that anyone was going to see it, but the saleswoman convinced her that it would make her feel sexy.

Entering her room, she quickly hung up her up her dress, and flopped into bed, but like the day before as she started to drift off, her mom was calling. "Seriously?" she asked the room. Answering the phone, hoping that her mom wasn't going to annoy her, but the who the hell was she kidding.

"Hey mom, how are you doing?" she asked.

Judy could hear her daughter's frustration, but she as her baby, she would always worry about her. "I'm good." Letting out a sigh, "Ruby, you need come home. I'm worried about you." She didn't want her daughter to be seduced by the sins of that city.

Rolling her eyes, "Mom, no. I love you, but I'm staying for the rest of my vacation time, and I'll be home after. You need to stop this."

"Ruby Claire Edwards, I am your mother, and you will do what I tell you young lady."

Letting out a frustrated sigh, "Mom, I am 24 years old, I'm not a child you can boss around." She knew that her coming was going to be an issue, but she didn't expect her mom to act this way.

"You listen to me young lady, you live in my home so my roof my rules." She threatened her.

She knew eventually that her mom would force the issue about following her house rules, so over the last few months, she's slowly started to get her clothes and things into her best friend's apartment, the only thing she didn't have was her furniture and a few items that her mom would have noticed missing.

"Then I'll leave. I'm not doing anything wrong, and I'm not going to be punished for doing new things."

Gasping. "Fine, if you think it's so easy out there in the real world, go ahead, but don't you dare call me for help."

Staring down at her phone, she knew that her mom was going to throw a hissy fit, but she didn't expect it to be so harsh. Plugging in the phone, there was nothing that could be done about it now, Ruby kicked off her sneakers, falling into the bed she let stress of her conversation with her mom and walking around the museum pull her to sleep.

Groaning as her alarm went off, Ruby rubbed her eyes, forcing herself to wake up. Taking a second to get her bearings, standing up she went straight towards the shower. Once the shower was nice and hot, she let the heat soak into her bones.

Taking the time to wash her hair, and shave her body, Ruby wasn't planning on letting anyone touch her tonight, but she really didn't know how her evening was going to go, and officer Krieger seemed like a nice enough guy, perhaps she could allow for a momentary lapse of judgement and just have fun.

Shutting off the water, she wrapped the towel around her body, and started the process of drying her hair, it took a lot longer, but she was making sure that it was straight, wanting to put her hair up into a high ponytail.

Looking in the mirror she couldn't help but smile, her dress was just above the knee, but it was the dark maroon color with the overlay of lace that she loved, it complimented her pale skin so well. Slipping on the heels to match, Ruby grabbed her phone and headed down to the lobby, it was time for her to actually have a good night.

Hailing a cab, she looked at her watch, seeing that it wasn't too early, if she guessed right, she'd be arriving a bit before midnight. Giving him the address, she leaned back into the seat, keeping her eyes open and letting the butterflies in her stomach settle.

The drive through the city was beautiful, seeing it all lit up was almost magical, checking her watch she could see it was closer to 11:30pm, and per her phones GPS, they were about 3 minutes out. Closing her eyes, she steadied herself as the driver pulled up to the front, her eyes taking it in, it was an old meat packing plant, feeing a bit nervous, Ruby took a second to get out, handing the driver some money, she shook off the last bit of her nerves, and made her way into building.

Following behind some statuesque women, she looked down at herself, at least she was dressed appropriately, but if they required you to be runway models to get in, she was screwed.

Walking up to the bouncer, she put on her best smile, pulling out her ID.

Kane watched as the human made her way towards him, he could feel his fangs growing a bit, knowing that he wasn't going to let her go without tasting her first. Smirking as she pulled out her ID, "No sugar, members only."

Taken back by his deep voice, she nodded, "Oh, OK." Pulling out the card that Jay gave her, "Um officer Jay Krieger gave me this, and invited me, told me to ask for the owner, Deacon Frost?" she said with a question in her voice.

Eyes going wide, Krieger sent her here for Deacon, well that stopped him from drinking from her, Deacon would kill anyone that touched his property. Giving her a once over, she wasn't his familiar, Deacon loved branding the ladies on their necks, and her was bare. "Well, that my dear changes things." Opening the door, "I'll take you to Frost."

"Thank you so much." Her eyes looking behind her, not seeing anyone else coming. The man was walking fast through the entryway, "You're not going to get into trouble for leaving the door? I'd hate for that to happen."

Snorting, she was way too sweet to know what the hell was about to happen to her, he could almost feel bad, "Nah, I see anyone that doesn't belong, I'll take care of them." Loving that she didn't understand the double meaning behind his words.

Pushing the secondary door open, Ruby was bombarded with the sound of loud techno music, with a quick look around she could see everyone dancing on each other, never seeing anything like it in her life, it was exciting. Her eyes finding the bouncer watching her, "Sorry. I probably stand out here, huh?" she asked.

Laughing, "You have no idea." Extending his elbow, "Let's head in." Gently leading her towards Deacon. Hoping that perhaps he's in a sharing mood.

His eyes roaming over the crowd, unimpressed with today's generation of vampires, weak, simple minded and no idea of what it took to be something in this society. A few of them had a familiar or two that was under his banner, but for the most part, it was like immortal children. Looking to his right, he could see that Quinn was dancing with one of the youngling vamps, so taken with him because he was over a hundred years old.

Rolling his eyes, he found Mercury dancing with her girlfriend Raquel, smirking at the young vampire male that tried to weasel his way in between the pair. Laughing when she tossed him across the room like he was nothing. While only a 120, Mercury was dangerous, a skilled fighter, rolling his head back to Quinn who was supposed to be his second, he hated him with a passion, the man was 189 years old and used all his free time to snag easy youngling pussy.

Taking another drink of his scotch, he was bored with the evening, the only reason why he had these places was just to keep the sheep happy, and to make lots of money, while his position in Gitano's house gave him a nice living, he wanted more, at almost 600 years, his desire to be more than just a highly paid servant increased with each passing year.

Closing his eyes, he let the music pass over his body, his mind trying to plan how-to take-out Gitano and take over his house without too much bloodshed mostly his, more than willing to send a few of his people to their final death. Hearing Quinn snort sealed his fate, when it was time for a war, he was going to make sure that he was the first one to go.

Feeling the AC kick in, he let out a sigh of relief, not that he needed it per say, but it did feel nice to have the stagnant air move around. As the air around him moved past his nose, he caught the most mouthwatering scent, sitting up straighter his eyes looking for the vampire that smelled of freesia and honey. His eyes scanning the crowd looking for the owner of that smell, she was his and any other male that would even attempt to touch her he would kill without any fucking mercy.

Scanning the room for the second time, he found his bouncer Kane walking with a young woman, pausing his search for only just a moment, his focus now on the beautiful woman on his arms, but upon closer inspection, she was human. Licking his lips, perhaps his lady would love to share a meal.

Kane could see that Deacon zeroed in on the woman, "Sir, this lovely lady is Ruby, Officer Krieger sent her, told her to ask for you." He said with a sly smirk on his face.

Well well, Krieger actually did something right. Moving to stand, smiling as her big green eyes watched him with interest, extending his hand, "Any friend of Jay is a friend of mine."

Ruby watched him, she never seen anyone so confident in her life, he was walking sex on a stick. Gently taking his hand, "Pleasure to meet you." Gasping as the electricity that ran through her body where they touched, pulling back just slightly her eyes found his staring at her like she wasn't even real.

Stepping into her space, inhaling deeply, she was the source of that smell, she was his. Gently pushing some of her blonde hair out of her face, enjoying how her eyes watched his every move. Sparing a glance up he could see that Mercury was walking over, placing his hand on her shoulder, it made it clear that she wasn't to be touched.

Ruby could feel her heart starting to beat faster, doing what she could to slow down her breathing so she didn't look like some lovestruck schoolgirl, taking a step back she swore she could hear a growl as she did so. Clearing her throat, "It was nice to meet you Mr. Frost, I think I'm going to explore, if that's alright."

He wanted to keep her near him, but it was obvious she had no idea where she was, what he was or anyone else in the club was, not wanting to freak her out, "Mercury, please show Ruby around." His eyes never leaving her green ones.

The platinum blonde looked between Frost and the human, she wasn't his familiar, but being near him for almost a century she knew he was telling her to protect the girl. Turning towards the young woman, "Mercury," she said, wrapping her arm around her leading her towards the bar.

Whispering under her breath so that only Frost could hear, "She needs to get out of here and soon, the blood will scare her."

Slapping his face, not even thinking about it. "Carefully." He said back.

Ruby was stunned by her beauty, "Mercury is such a unique name." She said, leaning against the bar.

Laughing, "I dropped my real name ages ago." Waving to the bartender, smiling as she approached, "Scotch for me, and you?" she asked looking down at the woman.

"Vodka and cranberry, please." Pulling out a $20 to pay for her drink.

"Don't worry about doll, your Deacon's guest, you don't have to pay." Taking a sip of her drink, enjoying the burn of the scotch down her throat.

Before Ruby could respond, she saw a very tall black men dressed in leather at the door holding a sword. "Umm, is that normal?" she asked pointing to the man.

Turning to see what the human was pointing at, panic filled her, "DAYWALKER!" she screamed out.

Blade smiled when they all turned to him, taking his sword he stared cutting them down, enjoying watching their ashes swirled around him. He hated vampires, it was because of them he was the monster he was.

The normal panic didn't bother him, it was the very human scream, zeroing in on her, he could see that Frost's bitch was pulling her towards him. Pulling out his gun, he started shooting everything in his path, making his way to the woman, if she was protecting her, she was important to Frost, which meant she was valuable.

Tossing firebombs in his direction, smirking as he watched Frost struggle to get around the flames, so she was important to him, cutting the arm of the bitch holding her, ready to cut off her head, but just barely missing as she rolled away.

The screaming deviated his attention, turning towards the human he quickly injected her with Ketamine, knocking her out. Tossing her over his shoulder, he threw more bombs blocking their ability to get to her.

Kicking out the window, he looked behind him, smiling as he saw Frost being pulled back. "Looks like I have your toy, asshole!" Jumping towards the street and getting her to his car.

Frost watched the club burn, his eyes never leaving Blades as he grabbed her, he could feel his blood boiling, and he was certain if it wasn't for Quinn pulling him back, he would have walked into the fire. But seeing him jump out the window sent him into a fucking rage. Rushing outside, hoping to catch her scent, but coming up empty, he could feel Mercury and Quinn behind him, "Find her, I don't care what it costs, find her NOW!" he yelled out.

If Blade hurt her, he'd burn this fucking city to the ground, consequences be damned.
