Chapter 1: 2020 Went Downhill

On the shoreline of the ruined city of Las Vistas, a young boy washes on to the beach. He appeared to be a 14-year-old teen with tanned skin and spiky, black hair who wore a black and neon green boiler suit with the words 'Spike Parker' stitched in green over the left side of his chest. The boy remained on the beach motionless and unresponsive until his eyes suddenly shot open, reveling them to be a brownish-green as they dart about in confusion while the boy slowly sat up to check his surroundings.

"Where-What? H-how'd I get here?" the boy questioned, rubbing his head in discomfort, "Why can't I-" he paused, holding his head in his hands before noticing the writing on his clothes, "Spike Parker? Spike, is that me, Am I Spike? Why can't I remember?" he asked himself as he got off the ground and turned around, not excepting to see a ruined wasteland of a city, a place wild with vegetation and overgrown trees sprouting from destroyed slanted buildings and skyscrapers with one tree in the center of the city towering over everything.

"Where the hell am I?" Spike said as he starred in awe before making his way into the city and through the empty streets that were overgrown with weeds and filled with abandoned guttered cars as he continued to rub his head, "And why does my head hurt so much, what happened to me…and to this place?" He asked himself before noticing a rundown store with the words 'Pharmacy' on the front.

Deciding to check it out, Spike saw that the place was covered in vines and moss with most of the shelves being bare of most supplies with Spike picking up a medicine bottle and rubbing the moss off it to reveal its label.

"Panadol. Expiration date October 23rd, 2020." He read before taking another look at the ruined store, "I guess 2020 was a bad year." He remarked, placing the bottle back on the shelf until something caught his eye. Yellow disposable cameras hanged from a rack and looked to be in working order, as Spike picked one up he turned to look out the store window and saw a wrecked toy shop across the street as well as a hardware store further down the road and it wasn't long until an idea popped into his head as he took the camera and went into both stores, grabbing a green toy rifle that shot foam darts and collected several items from the hardware store such as a drill, Springs, a wielding kit, silver wire, and electrical wire before sitting down at a workbench and got to work.

Spike started by opening the disposable camera to take out its flash circuit and capacitor before fitting the capacitor into a foam dart and fitting the wires through a tiny metal pipe that inserted into the plastic tip of the dart, happy with his work Spike threw the dart on to a metal pipe which caused massive sparks to emit from the dart causing the pipe to fly off the table.

Grinning to himself in triumph over his success before his face fell when he noticed the number of foam darts he had and his lack of capacitor, Spike choosing to move on with his DIY project with the time going by as he wielded electrical wires to the toy while fitting a better spring inside until his invention was complete, a fully modded toy gun with the cameras flash circuit wired into it as he inserted the electrical dart into the gun and fired a fully charged tazer dart into the wall.

"Well, at least I got nothing to worry about now." Spike reassured himself before filling the ground began to shake repeatedly, "What type of earthquake is this?!" he staggered before a massive furry foot stomped just outside the shop, Spike staring wide-eyed out the window as the foot was lifted out of sight, Spike slowly getting to his feet as he exited the store only to rub his eyes in doubt of what he was seeing, a giant white bunny that towered over buildings and had eight legs and five sets of ears. Spike staring with bulging eyes before looking down at his toy gun in comparison to the rabbit and suddenly feeling a little discouraged about his creation before turning to walk away from the giant bunny.

"The hell happened here?" he asked himself as he made his way through the city until coming to a street sign that was mainly rusted away but retained two words, "Las Vistas? I've heard that before?" He pondered before noticing a clothes shop nearby.

Spike looking down at his worn-out boiler suit decided he could use something new as he walked inside, grabbing a black hoodie with a green stripe going down each arm, a plain white shirt with black jeans, and a pair of white sneakers with green laces and quickly changing into his new clothes, being sure to pose for the mirror before making his way out of the store to continue wondering the city until nightfall.

Now searching for a place to rest, Spike noticed the road split towards an underground car lot beneath a building which he entered, seeing that the car park was filled with overgrown thick grass blades that towered over Spike and were even sprouting through rusted cars.

"I guess this will have to do for tonight." He said as he bent a grass blade and tied the end to a car, turning it into a makeshift hammock and climbed onto it, staring up at the mossy ceiling as he slowly drifted to sleep while listening to the terrifying sounds that came with the night.
