I was hit with inspiration that feels perfect! The perfect way for my oc to learn magic, based on the rules Established by the world itself! I also realized I was repeating the same bad storylines for a while, so I shook things up to make a better story... Enjoy!

I did the research for these people!

Four Years before Canon!

"... quietly..." Rowan muttered, moving through the darkened halls of the nice house he had broken into. His stomach ached something fierce, his head hurt and he felt faint but damn it he was going to eat even if it killed him! With shaking hands, he moved into the kitchen and slowly opened up the doors of the refrigerator, happily and swiftly snarfing down the food he saw before him. Even things he hated, like olives, were eaten.

Then he heard it, a soft sigh. Quickly he turned and saw a woman, gorgeous and of Spanish descent. "You poor boy, when was the last time you ate, you are skin and bones." She waved her hand and before he could think he flew away and landed on a chair by a table with food flying towards the table. He was stunned, shocked, and watched her with horror and awe. "Please, eat, no one goes hungry in my home."

Nodding, he started to eat, this time much slower, watching the scary but stunning witch. 'Can I learn that... magic is... I..." His thoughts were too forceful to really focus, amazed at what he just saw. "How did you do that?" He asked, hopeful and scared.

"I am an immortal shaman, and yes you could learn to use my powers, dear boy." She smirked, leaning in. "No I am not reading your mind, but your expression is rather easy to read."

"I guess... so... um... how do I go about learning this stuff, I always wanted to learn magic."

She leaned back, sighing. "Well, that depends on you. I refuse to make a monster. I could teach you, show you and help you master whatever you most innately draw to. However, that depends entirely on the man you are. You are what, seventeen?" He nodded. "I thought so... I will reach your soul, see who you really are and from there I will decide if you are to be trusted. If so, I will teach you. If not, I will bind your memories and you will never remember that I cast a single spell in your presence. Sound fair?"

He nodded." Perfectly so... how do we get started?"

She smirked and grabbed his hand, which glowed a soft grey. Her entire body and his radiated with a fierce energy that filled the space around them with brilliant light. She sighed after a moment and he had no idea what she saw, but there was peace in her eyes that she had lacked before. "You have a brilliant soul, so filled with a mix of dark and light energies, a desire to help, and a drive to better your own life at any cost. You hold a depth of empathy that most lack... I would be honored to teach you, my boy."

Smiling, he grabbed her hand. "Thank you for giving me a chance... and food."

"Never a problem... I saw much about you, I know that your life has never been easy. Born to Crystal Schmidt, you lived in Star City until your mother lost her job when the Queens closed down the Steel Mill. She turned to Drugs and became abusive until you left your home shortly after she died. You sought out hope elsewhere and slowly, found your way to where you hoped you would get food, my home. It is amazing how things work... and now, you will become a sorcerer under my care. My name is Esrin Fortuna and I will be your teacher, your mother in magic."

And like that, in a flash, Rowan's life changed entirely, all because he chose a ritzy house to break into for food...

Who the hell would have guessed that life could be so... interesting? He sure as hell hadn't guessed that would have ever happened.
