Chapter 1
A New World, A New Face
A peaceful breeze was blowing through a forest, along with the gentle sound of a stream and a small waterfall. However, one thing was out of place, a small four legend creature was laying on the ground unconscious. This creature was laying in what appeared to be a small crater, but other than that there was no sign that this creature didn't belong here.
The new arrival was a small, quadrupedal fox-like Pokémon. It was covered in pale yellow fur that was longer on its haunches. It had a white muzzle with longer fur on its cheeks and a pointed, black nose. It's mouth was slightly open, revealing two pointed teeth in its upper jaw. Tufts of dark orange fur cover the interior of its large ears. The Fennekin also has small paws with no visible toes and slim legs. Its tail is fluffy with a dark orange tip.
The Fennekin opened its eyes revealing they were a bright silver color rather than the dark orange most Fennekin had.
"My head…..where am I?" the small fire type asked in a younger female voice.
As it heard the water, the young pokemon instinctively went over to it, taking a few swiggs was soothing, but any feeling of comfort was lost as soon as the fire type saw its reflection.
"Is that….me…..THAT'S NOT RIGHT!" the Fennekin exclaimed.
There was a shuffling in the bushes, and from them emerged a bipedal Pokémon with a single green leaf atop its head. The Pokémon was mostly brown with a beige mask marking on its face. Its bulky thighs were also beige and have thin striations, and it had thin arms with mitten-like hands.
The pokemon gave a look of confusion and asked "What's all the matter youngster?"
"WHAT ARE YOU?" The fire type questioned, freaking out even more now.
"I'm…..a Nuzleaf, y'all are acting as you've never seen a pokemon before" the grass type responded.
"What's a pokemon? I'm a human….or at least I should be…" the Fennekin admitted.
The Nuzleaf gave a surprised look, but calmed down almost instantly "Human...no humans don't exist, they're just fairy tales...how did you get here? can you remember anything?"
"...no, I can't, I can't remember anything!" the young fire type began to panic again.
The grass type ran up to her and patted her on the back, trying to comfort the child with "Calm down youngen, it's ok. Name's Jed...I help you get outta this forest, then maybe we can find your parents…"
Just then there was a beeping sound as three new pokemon floated into the clearing. They were light brown with oblong heads that featured depressions on both sides. They had black, symmetrical lines going down the front of their heads as well. Under the rim of its head, there lay two green eyes with small black pupils. They had a lighter brown "collar" and four dots on their chest of the same color. Finally, the Beheeyem's arms had three finger-like digits: one red, one green, and one yellow and a rim underneath their main bodies, hiding two small legs.
The trio of psychic types began shoving at the duo violently, knocking them further and further and further with each hit.
"What's going on?" The Fennekin asked
The shoving got more violent to the point that they knocked her down.
"RUN!" Jed shouted, pulling the younger Pokémon up and into a run as the duo sprinted away fast as they could, oddly though the Beheeyem made no effort to pursue them though as if this was simply a matter of territory, and their job was complete….
After a solid 5 minutes of running, Jed and his young acquaintance arrived at the entrance to another part of the forest, one that was a strangely uniform line in the trees.
"Dagnabbit, a mystery dungeon, can you fight?" Jed questioned.
The young fire type gave a confused look and replied "fight? I'm a human in a body I have no idea how to use, heck I barely was able to run away on four legs!"
"Humans aren't real...or at least they aren't around in this world…...but I reckon you've given me no reason to think your lying….we can sort that out later, I don't know...think about shooting fire or something!" Jed suggested. Most Pokémon were born with the instincts to use at least some of their powers, but this child had none, which unfortunately served no purpose right now other than to back up her claims.
"Um….ok" the Fennekin replied timidly.
The duo walked through the mystery dungeon, encountering some of the feral Pokémon that inhabited it. Jed dealt with them rather quickly firing green balls of energy from his hands.
"Wow, that is such a cool move! What's it called?" The young fire type inquired.
Jed chuckled and replied "it's called energy ball, one of the best grass type moves"
Just then a Pokémon jumped out from behind a set of trees, it was a large bovine Pokémon with a dark afro on its head. Two large, curving horns, each with two golden growths resembling rings, protruding from the afro. It had a shaggy brown hide that ended at its knees and didn't cover its face. A large, gray nose sat at the end of its short, beige snout, and its yellow eyes were partly hidden by its hair. Each of its beige legs had a single, gray hoof and its tail ends in a stubby tuft of fur.
The fire type gasped and as her mouth was open, she accidentally launched a small ball of fire.
"Wait, I DID IT!" The Fennekin realized before opening its mouth and launching another small fireball. It was like when she breathed in, there was energy in her throat she could feel.
Jed finished the Boffalant off with a barrage of energy balls. He patted the kid on the back and said "nice job little missy! I'd say your combat-ready!"
At the sound of those words, something clicked in the Fennekin's silver eyes, a faint familiarity from those words.
Jed noticed the youth's expression and asked "did ya remember something?"
The fire type nodded and replied "someone I knew must've said that….but one thing I can remember is that my name is Ruby…... Ruby Rose"
Author's Note- Welcome to a new story of mine!
1. Much like Outriders, this will be a novelization of Super Mystery Dungeon with my own twists, it's sort of an unofficial sequel to Outriders
2. this and the next chapter are a prologue, to get people interested while I finish the next Volume of Rwby Distortion, which is about 45% done
3. Aside from references and obviously characters, there won't be much RWBY in this fic..
