(In honor of Mother's Day, I want to dedicate the first chapter of this story to all the great moms in the world. So, if you like this story and love your mother or any motherly figures you have in your life, don't forget to wish her a Happy Mother's Day and tell her how much you love her)
It felt so hard to believe that this could happen. One minute he was a bounty hunter on a quest for revenge against the man who killed his father and under the abusive care of one of his father's former associates. The next, he's been adopted into a new family. But not just any family. A wealthy family with a couple that was a Jedi Knight and a Republic Senator, as well as their royal daughter.
This child who was adopted was named Boba Fett, though upon his adoption, he became Boba Skywalker.
It was a huge change for him. He had a new father now, as well as a little sister, and... a mother.
It felt so strange, but at the same time amazing. Boba had never had anyone to call 'Mom' before. And now he finally got a woman who would love him as her own and raise him. But not just any ordinary woman.
Padme was a pretty special woman, and not just because she was a beloved Senator from a beautiful planet. She was as kind as she was beautiful, and she loved Boba the moment she got to meet him herself and adopted him. Boba had never expected that such a wonderful person would take him into her home. Of all the kids in all the orphanages in the galaxy, she picked him. And for that, Boba would forever be grateful.
Tonight, it was Boba's very first night in his new home.
Padme gave Boba a goodnight kiss and tucked him in. Sure, he was ten, and most would probably consider that age a little old to be tucked in... but Boba didn't mind it. He finally had the mom he always wished for, and he wanted to experience all the wonderful things a loving mother did for her children. There was just something about a mother's kisses that just felt so special.
Boba lay in his bed, sleeping peacefully, cuddling a stuffed lion his newly adoptive father and sister made for him as a welcome home present. Well... for about an hour he did. Peaceful night's sleeps did not normally cause someone to toss and turn or breathe heavily.
Boba looked around and saw what looked like a familiar arena on Geonosis. At first, no one seemed to be around, and Boba was all by himself.
"Hello...?"
Boba only heard his own echo in response.
"Mom? Gabby? Anybody?" Boba called out again.
Boba looked around and saw a way out, so he started to run through it, only to stop when he heard the sound of someone screaming. Then, he heard the sounds of cheering, and he went back to see a crowd of Geonosians fill the arena. But this time, he also saw his adoptive family.
Anakin, Padme, Gabby, and even Carousella were all chained to poles and couldn't escape. All four of them looked really scared as they struggled in their chains, which only tightened the more they did, all of them screaming in pain. And then Aurra Sing came and started hitting Gabby around.
"Leave my sister alone!" Boba exclaimed.
Boba tried to run over to rescue his family, but then found himself grabbed by the back of his shirt and then had a familiar purple lightsaber held near his throat. And when he looked at who was holding him.
"Windu?!"
As if things couldn't get worse, Boba saw Aurra taking out a blaster. She clocked it and smirked at the boy.
"Time to say goodbye to your family, Boba." said the bounty hunter, and she aimed her gun. "Which one goes first?"
Aurra moved her gun around before stopping at Padme.
"Gotcha."
And she pulled the trigger.
"NO!"
Boba quickly sat up in his bed, breathing heavily as he had woken up. He clutched his lion as tears of fear and pain came to his eyes. He'd had bad dreams before, but never one so horrifying. Not since right after losing Jango Fett. Those nightmares, though, were more like recurring painful memories.
However, someone heard Boba's distress, and came to comfort him.
"Boba? What's the matter?" Padme said gently.
"Mom..." Boba quickly got up and hugged his mother as he cried.
When Boba was under Aurra Sing's care, crying was treated as a sin or something. Any time he felt like crying, he had to hold it back until he found a private place to do it. But with Padme... she wrapped her arms around him and held him close to her body.
"Sweetie, what happened?" Padme gently stroked Boba's hair, like she and Anakin did with Gabby.
Boba cried for a little bit longer, then he sniffled and told Padme everything that happened in his dream. He was terrified of so many things. Growing up with a family who wasn't related to him in any way, not being able to escape the tragedies of his past, and most of all... losing a family a second time.
All his life, Boba only ever had a father who was almost always away on bounty hunting assignments. He never got to attend a real school with other kids, never had any real friends, and he never had any siblings to play with when he was growing up. He'd hardly been anywhere and never got to explore as much as he would have liked either. Growing up, he was taught to bottle up and ignore all emotions, never make friends, never question an assignment when looking for a bounty, and he never got the chance to really just... be a kid. Now he had two parents and a little sister he was terrified of losing.
Boba wasn't sure how his relationship with his adoptive father would work out, but he already had a great one with his sister. And he wanted nothing more than to have the chance to grow with a mom, to experience how it felt to have a mother who was kind, compassionate, and stopped at nothing to make sure her babies were safe and happy.
Padme wiped her son's tears away and kissed his forehead.
"Boba, I understand you're scared." Padme said. "You've suffered so much. You've gone through things no child should ever have to go through. And I know it's going to be hard to get past all of that."
"Why did all these bad things have to happen to me?" Boba asked.
"I don't know, Sweetie." Padme caressed her son's face. "But I do know that in a very strange way, all of that eventually led to something good. You have a new family and a new home now. Related or not, clone or not, you are part of this family, and we love you. I love you. You're my son now. My baby. You have a lot of growing up to do, and I'm going to be there to help you through it."
Boba hugged his mother again. He still couldn't believe such an amazing person like Padme existed in his life now. They'd only been mother and son for a few hours now, and Boba already loved her like she was his birth mother.
Padme helped Boba get back into bed, but the boy didn't look like he could go back to sleep. But Padme knew what to do.
"This is something I do for Gabby whenever she has a bad dream." She told him.
Padme sat down on the bed and hugged Boba in her arms as she sang him a special song.
Sun goes down, and we are here together
Fireflies glow like a thousand charms
Stay with me and you can dream forever
Right here in my arms tonight.
Boba seemed to calm down a little bit as Padme sang to him. So, she lay him down and gently stroked his hair as she continued.
Sounds of day fade away
Stars begin to climb
Melodies fill the breeze
Sweeter all the time.
Sun goes down, and we are here together
Fireflies glow like a thousand charms
Stay with me and you can dream forever
Right here in my arms tonight.
And as though by magic, Boba was falling back asleep. Padme kissed his cheek and tucked him back in. She stood by his side and watched him until she felt tired herself, and quietly left the room again. And this time, the boy slept throughout the night.
