Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night,
Hopefully you know me but maybe you don't. Almost 10 years ago I released a story on here titled "Our Parents Are What?" To this day it has been my most read story on and even now, almost 10 years later, I still get reviews asking for an update on the story. As time has gone on my writing, seeing as though I started writing that story as a Sophomore in High School, has improved and my ideas for the story have improved as well.
The original story plot had not quite thickened into what I had wanted it to yet therefore the gist of this new version will remain the same. With all that being said, yes I am rewriting my original "Our Families Are What?" story. With better spelling, grammar and dialogue. I encourage you to read this one versus the original version in hopes that it will be better, and longer.
Enjoy the story!
Wise Girl
Annabeth I
Chiron had gathered all of the camp counselors in the rec room for an emergency meeting. After all we had been through in the last few years the summons was quite nerve racking. My mind was racing with possibilities as to what could possibly be so important we all had to be here and none of the options I could come up with sounded good. I was already strategizing and making battle plans.
There were 17 of us gathered around the ping pong table in anticipation for what was to come. Katie Gardner represented Demeter Cabin, The Stoll Brothers were representing Hermes cabin, Jason was representing the Zeus cabin and his sister Thalia was here representing Artemis. There was Will Solace from Apollo, Nico di Angelo from Hades, Piper McClean from Aphrodite, Nyssa Barrera from Hephaestus, Clarisse La Rue from Ares, Lou Ellen from Hecate, Butch Walker from Isis, Pollux from Dionysus, Clovis from Hypnos, and of course Percy Jackson from Poseidon.
Everyone seemed to be occupying themselves with their favorite past time while we waited for Chiron. There was chatter and goofing off all around the table. The Stoll Brother were whispering amongst themselves, which is never a good thing, Clarisse was arm wrestling Jason, Piper and Katie were chatting about who knows what...the only person who seemed to be thinking along the same lines as me was Percy. His eyebrows were furrowed with worry. I've been in love with him for 6 years now and I couldn't help but notice how his appearance has changed since the first time we met at 12 years old. He has a couple small scars from years of fighting monsters and Titans but he was still so handsome to me. I leaned over to him and he glanced my way, giving me a small smile but I could see the worry in his eyes.
"What are you thinking?" I asked him.
"It's never a good thing when we're all summoned" He said and the smile fell "all I can think about is what or who else could be out there that would rage a full out war."
"Do you want that questioned answered or would you rather not know?" I responded. There were other beings out there that could potentially pose a threat but they are beings long asleep and long almost forgotten but, then again, so was Kronos and Gaia.
"I do not want to know" Percy admitted and sat back in his chair, crossing his arms, "If I know ALL the major...things...that could potentially rage war on us I will never be able to sleep again."
I chuckled softly.
"I don't say this often because it goes against almost everything my mother stands for but sometimes knowledge can be a curse. Why do you think I have problems sleeping and sneak into your cabin almost every night?" I asked him seriously.
"Well I was hoping it was because you were madly in love with me and couldn't stand to be away from me long enough to sleep" Percy said and smiled at me which made me roll my eyes and smile back.
"Yes that but mostly because I can't shut my brain off long enough to sleep unless I'm with you" I said "you make me feel safe."
"That's the goal Wise Girl" he winked.
Just as he said that Chiron came in and, to our surprise, Hermes. All commotion in the room stopped and we were left in silence. Now my mind was really racing. The gods rarely came down in person to us which means this was definitely not a good thing.
It took a second but once we all realized Hermes was in attendance there was the sound of scraping chairs as we all stood up to bow respectfully.
"Oh none of that" Hermes smiled at us and waved at us to sit down. The chairs scraped into place again as we sat down again, just a little straighter than we had been before.
"I am sure you all are wondering why we called you to an emergency meeting" Chiron said.
"More like panicking sir" I said.
"Well there is no need to panic Annabeth" Chiron smiled, though it did not calm my nerves and panic "this is actually a meeting to discuss something fun."
"Fun?" Percy asked as though the word was unknown to him "that is actually more terrifying."
"May I interject Chiron?" Hermes asked "it is a message from Olympus."
"Of course Lord Hermes" Chiron said with a nod.
"Alright" Hermes beamed at us "as you all know I am the messenger for the gods of Olympus and what I come to you today with is a message from Zeus. We have been discussing how we plan to hold up our end of the bargain we made with Mr. Jackson after the Battle of Olympus 3 years ago. We have always said that we stay away to protect you all but we have realized that decision, though made with good intentions, was almost the cause of our demise. With that being said we have decided to spend the summer with our children, here, at Camp Half Blood."
His smile was huge and almost blinding and all we could do was stare at him. Did we hear him right? The gods would stay on Earth all summer with us?
"I'm sorry" Piper said "what?"
"The gods have decided they would like to spend the summer here at Camp Half Blood" Chiron said "a true honor to be hosting the gods of Olympus for the summer. But if I remember correctly that is not the only news?" Chiron looked to Hermes, who nodded.
"There is more!" Hermes smiled again "your mortal parents will be here as well!"
With that being said the whole room erupted into chaos with the general consensus being no.
"Absolutely not!" Clarisse said and I nodded. I envied the people who smiled because they came from home with supportive and loving parents. I looked over at Percy and he looked calm. Percy was honestly one of the luckier ones in the group when it came to parents. Poseidon was actually a decent parent, even for a god, and his mother and stepfather were absolutely amazing. He also had a 3 year old half brother that was just absolutely adorable!
"Sir," I said aloud and everyone stopped talking to look at me "for those of us with deceased or unsupportive mortal parents this does not seem very enticing."
"We understand some of you have difficult mortal sides to you" Hermes nodded "which is why the gods have been having an awkward week or so contacting mortals that we have...um...had relations with that resulted in children. They were given a decision to come but they were not forced. Some of your parents, unfortunately declined the offer, but most responded with enthusiasm."
I silently prayed my father was one who declined. I don't think I could bear a whole summer with him and my step mother.
"We are only starting with counselors this year in hopes that next year we can include everyone's parents" Chiron said "there are only three parents who declined the offer. Unfortunately Ms. Barrera, Mr. Walker and Ms. Ellen your parent shave respectfully declined the offer."
All three of them actually looked relieved and my stomach twisted like I was going to be sick. That means my father was going to be here.
"Wait" Piper spoke up "my dad accepted?!"
"He told your mother that he would be a couple days late as he is finishing a movie at the moment but as of next week he will be with us."
"You said a week is late?" I asked "how soon are they coming?"
"Ah" Chiron smiled sheepishly "we understand this is last minute but they will be here tomorrow."
Now I really felt sick.
"Now I expect you all to disperse and make your Camp look good for our important guests" Chiron smiled and we all took that as dismissal.
Some were silent as they stood others were eager to run back to their cabins and prepare their siblings.
I was wrong, so wrong, nothing I could have ever imagined was worse than what was actually happening.
