Author's Notes: I know this isn't a normal pairing and I kind of played around with their ages. So please don't come at me for the cannon stuff. This was more for fun.
Author's Notes: In case you are wondering. I do ship Chakotay/Janeway. I also ship Tom/B'Elanna.
Chapter One
"I thought about having children Just didn't think they would be with you." Kathryn said with a smirk.
Liar. At one point she did.
As Kathryn laid on the bio bed next to Tom's (they needed to stay overnight) she thought about when they were younger.
No one really knew how close Kathryn and Tom once were. Or how Admiral Janeway and Admiral Paris were in fact, best friends. It led to Kathryn and Tom growing up with each other.
Although they are 4 years apart, they ended up being best friends. And eventually it led to them dating all through when Tom was in middle and Kathryn was in high school. However, when Tom was in his Sophomore year in High School, Kathryn's career was beginning to take flight. She was getting ready to enlist into Starfleet. To follow in her father's footsteps.
Admiral Paris, who at the time, was still a Captain, wanted them to break up. Tom was having trouble concentrating in class because of his relationship with Kathryn.
So at the end of Tom's Sophomore year, they broke up. It was then that Kathryn began her journey as a Starfleet officer. She tried her best to not focus on their past relationship. Unsuccessfully, she couldn't. Especially now since they are serving on the same ship.
"I know you aren't asleep yet, Kat." Tom said into the darkness.
He wouldn't admit it, but being in the same room with the girl he couldn't get out of his head was killing him.
He still loved Kathryn. He tried his best to get his dad to listen to reason. Even his mother pleaded with the man to keep the relationship. But once Paris made his choice, you listen to it.
"That's Captain to you, Mister Paris." Kathryn blurted.
"I knew you weren't asleep." Tom joked.
Kathryn couldn't help but to smile and roll her eyes. She rolled over onto her side. Even in the dim light, she could see the brightness of Tom's baby blues.
"And what about you? You never sleep." Kathryn joked.
Tom chuckled a little. "I only slept when we were cuddling."
That comment caused Kathryn to go quiet. She remembered hearing from her mother about Tom staying up till the wee hours of the morning. Maybe getting an hour to 2 hours of sleep every night. Kathryn was upset about this. To this day, it still upsets her.
"Just try your best, Tommy. You need to rest." Kathryn said, using Tom's nickname on accident. It was the same nickname his mother used.
A couple days later, Kathryn was in the Mess Hall with Chakotay. They finally had time to talk about what happened when they found her and Tom.
Apparently they decided to leave the children there to live in their "natural" habitat. However, they were able to at least figure out the genders. Two girls and a boy.
"Hey Kat?" Tom asked.
Kathryn looked up at her boyfriend from where she rested her head on his lap. "Yes Tommy?"
"If we get to that point, what do you think about having children?" Tom looked down at his girlfriend's blue gray eyes. He absentmindedly stroked her hair.
Kathryn's eyes lit up with joy. "I would love to be a mom."
"How many kids would you like?"
"Three. Two girls and a boy."
"I am sorry, Kathryn." Chakotay said, placing a hand on her leg.
Kathryn tried not to get too upset by it so she rested her hand on his and lightly moved it away from her leg so Tom would not get jealous.
"It's alright, Commander." Kathryn said, smiling. "They have their mother's fighting spirit.
"Unless they turn out like their father." Chakotay glared at the pilot sitting at a far table next to B'Elanna and Harry.
It was obvious that Chakotay felt some sort of jealousy towards Tom. He was in love with Kathryn. She explained to him time and time again that as Captain it wasn't a luxury she could have. She couldn't date a member of her crew.
Kathryn did end up gripping her coffee mug though. She had to keep herself from jumping across the room and attacking her Chief Engineer. B'Elanna had a hand on Tom's forearm. She was also sitting a little too close for comfort.
She would hate to admit that she was the jealous type. Although, Tom could be jealous too.
Tom tried to keep his mind on what B'Elanna was saying. For some reason he kept staring at Chakotay with his girl. No, Kathryn was not his girl. She was the captain.
B'Elanna placed a comforting hand on his forearm. "Are you alright, Tom?"
Tom looked down at his hands. He was clenching his knuckles so hard they turned white. He shook her off.
"Yeah I am alright. I think I am still feeling the effects. The doctor said I will still feel my animal instincts for a little longer."
"Can he not do anything about them?" Harry asked.
Tom shook his head. "He told the Captain and I that they just need to wear off. It may take a few weeks."
As he saw the Captain and the first officer head out. He remembered something he had in his quarters.
"I will see you on the bridge in a little while. I forgot something in my quarters." Tom said.
"We have to be on the bridge in 10 minutes." Harry said.
"I know. I know. I will be there, Harry."
With that, Tom left the Mess Hall.
