Chapter:4

Benjen

The Library

Benjen looked at the woman who resembled his sister with only a few changes here and there like her eyes instead of grey they were blue but other than that there was not much else that could have separated this woman from his sister besides the fact that this woman possessed an almost heavenly beauty that no other women he had ever seen seemed to possess and that included his beloved sister.

Before anything else could be said the woman continued. "We are the ones who gave young Benjen here access to the library, Galahad of the round table." She said in a multitude of voices as she looked at both of them.

The man looked at Benjen for a second (who hadn't turned his head from her ever since she arrived) then turned back to her. "Excuse me but who are you my lady," he asked then quickly followed with "And please call me Jenkins. I haven't been called Galahad for a long time." He finished.

"Apologise Jenkins we simply thought that you would like to be called by your original name but we understand," she said nodding to what Jenkins asked of them."As for our name, we fear there is no human pronunciation for it and it is complex for the human brain to fully comprehend even for one such as yourselves. But you can call us Alice." She finished as both men nodded.

"My Lady... Uhh,.. sorry Lady Alice why have you granted him access to the Library? As far as I know, no one has been granted access to the library for thousands of years." said Jenkins

Alice looked at Jenkins in understanding considering that it has been almost plus or minus 500 thousand years since another mortal has stepped foot in the library so it was understandable that he was hesitant at allowing Benjen in since he is the guardian of the library until a librarian was found.

"Well, Jenkins I think it would be better if I showed you rather than tell you why I brought young Benjen here with the permission of the other Gods." She said as her eyes glowed for a couple of minutes as she showed Jenkins everything that has/would happen to Benjen's world and how they have intervened as the Old Gods of the North.

After watching everything that the Old Gods had shown him about what happened and their need for the library, everyone was quiet for a while as Jenkins digested everything that he was shown and how bad everything was in Benjens home.

"Well, that was worrying, to say the least, and am I right in thinking that you brought him here to help with improving his land so that when the time comes they are prepared for it?" He asked as Alice nodded at that.

"Yes, it is so, the knowledge from this library will help him and our Champion immensely in the battles to come and we are also asking for your help in this Jenkins." She said/asked

Jenkins was quiet for a few minutes as he thought about what the Goddess had asked of him and to be truthful it would be worthwhile for him to help Benjen considering what they were about to face in his home and it has been a while since he had company and as much as he liked being by himself, conducting his research uninterrupted it would be good to have some company and there is also the fact that he doesn't want Benjen to disturb his organized stem. And the fact that the Stark boy's home reminded him of his own home in Camelot.

He sighed as came to a decision, he turned towards Benjen and the Goddess, then nodded slightly in agreement, making Alice smile and Benjen a little confused at what had happened in front of him. Don't get him wrong, he understood that the man standing in front of him (Jenkins) has agreed to help him but with what he didn't know yet.

Deciding to voice his thoughts Benjen spoke up "Uhh... Sorry to interrupt but help me with what and where am I?" He asked.

"Apologies young Benjen, we got so caught in our conversation that we forget about you." Then she turned back to Jenkins."Could you give us a moment I just want to explain everything to him and what is to happen?" Jenkins nodded then turned and walked away living the two of them alone.

Alice faced Benjen again and studied his face seeing the confusion and slight hope on his face "Walk with us young Benjen" she said as she turned and walked through the door that Benjen had come from bringing them back to Ned's office, she looked around for a second as he walked around the office as if reminiscing about a time passed then she went to the chairs near the heath and gestured for him to sit next to her.

It was quiet for a while as they sat together looking at the roaring flames in the heath." It has been a long time since we have come here in physical form, the last time we were here was back in the time of the first long night the one you mortals describe as the age of heroes and Legend. " she said with a small smile on her face. Benjen also smile at that finding her smile beautiful and contentious, before he could say anything she continued. "Of course, that was before the Andals came and infected our land with their false religion and Gods that don't exist chopping down our trees and killing our children both the first man and the children of the forest. I will not lie to young Benjen we were greatly disappointed and heartbroken when some of our children abandoned us to praise false Gods who have never done anything for them, deities that don't even exist," she said with venom at the end.

Benjen was shocked as he looked at the avatar of the old Gods in disbelief. " Excuse me my Lady but are you saying that the Seven Gods don't exist," he asked in shock, I mean knowing that the Night King and White Walkers are real and that they are waking up from their 3000-year slumber to once again start the long night was one thing and then learning that entire religion and Gods don't exist was something else entirely.

Alice turned to Benjen and nodded" The only real ones there are the crone and death or as they call him the stranger, the rest just don't exist and they never will." She finished with a saddened look at the thought of all those people praising Gods who don't exist since that in itself can be a breathing ground for demons to cause havoc in the mortal plane among other things, she can't tell the number of times they, the Stranger and the Crone have had to fight off demons who have been trying to do exactly that.

She sighed as she turned back and looked at the fire. "Well enough about that, I think it is time that I explain to you why I had brought you to the library," she said making Benjen sit up straight so as not to miss anything.

Alice close her for a moment as she gathered her thoughts on what she wanted to say and how this came about them being here, after a minute she sighed and opened her eyes." You have seen the future young Benjen, you have seen what is to come, and how our champion struggled with an army big enough to face the NightsKing and his undead army and under the miss guidance of that Red woman who follows the red god Rhollor and the three-eyed raven your niece 'killed'" she said the word killed in air quotes. "the NightsKing when it should have been our champion to do so, but when your niece did it allowed him the opportunity to come back stronger the next time but by then there would be no one to stop him from taking the world at that and given the fact that our champion was gone and you saw what happens to your house, the NightsKing would have had no opposition in doing so." she finished with a sigh at the end of her explanation.

Benjen was quiet as he thought over everything that he has just heard trying to wrap his mind around everything. "Wait my Lady Alice wouldn't have the three-eyed raven/greenseer seen what would have happened if Arya was the one to kill the NightsKing instead of Jon and then take the proper steps to ensure that Jon was the one to kill him. Weren't they there for that reason to make sure that what you have set out goes according to it?" he asked as he knew from the stories that Old Nan used to tell him and his siblings when they were growing up.

"While yes that would be the case when it comes to the greenseers/three-eyed ravens the last one who just so happens to be your nephew Brandon had gone through a lot with what had happened to his family that he was too blinded by his seeking of revenge that he did not see what was happening right in front of him, and by the time that he did it was already too late for him to right his mistake which caused us to get involved to make sure that it never happens again," she explained with a sad look on her face at what had happened to the Stark family but that does not excuse what they did because if they had just followed all that she had shown them then they would not be here.

Benjen sighed as he rubbed his forehead and turned to look at her. "But why choose me for this? There are a lot more people who have the influence and power who would be able to do all that you need, someone who can make people listen to them. I'm just a man of the Night watch. Like my brother Ned, he has led men before and he is currently doing so now what with the Greyjoy rebellion and he is an honorable man." he said believing that there was nothing that he could do as compared to others who could be a lot more capable to do what there are asking of him.

She giggled as she heard what Benjen just said to her."That ...right there is the reason why we choose you Benjen because a man who is too sure of himself is prone to make mistakes and put himself above all else, but men like you and our champion who are humble and put others before themselves, who think about how to help others rather than themselves are the ones who make the greatest of leaders. You see young Benjen we thought about how we are going to do this and who the best man to help our champion is and the fact that you asked this shows us that we made the right choice in choosing you, so please do not doubt yourself or us in this for there is a lot more to you than meets the eye." she finished with a small smile on her face.

"Ans as for your brother if he was so honorable then why does he let the continued mistreatment of our champion and his not only our champion but is also his and your nephew one that he thinks of as a son, if your brother is so honorable then why are Tywin Lannister, Gregor Clegane and Amory Lorch still alive after what they did to Elia and her children if your brother is so honorable then he would have stopped at nothing to make sure that their heads were on a pike, he is so honorable then why did he not listen to his sister when she clearly told him time and again that she does not want to marry his friend but did he listen to her, if he is so honorable then why does he continue to disrespect us the Gods that have protected his family for thousands of years." she finished with anger in her voices as thunder and lightning flashed and boomed outside as it started to rain. Benjen was quiet as he took in all that she had just said to him and for the first time, he started to think about Ned and his honor, was it that one-sided in that he is willing to sacrifice his family for it, and was his brother so blinded by his honor and 'love' for Robert that he did not see the damage that he had caused and is causing to Jon.

He sighed as he relented to the reasoning of his Gods and nodded ever so slightly." So where or when do we begin" he asked with a determined look on his face. Alice smiled at that happy and relieved that, he had agreed to this.

"Now, as this will require you to spend some time in the library so that you, myself, and Jenkins can work together to not only teach you how all that you will need to know and the different ways to not only help the North but also improve it so that it does not rely on the south so much," she said as Benjen nodded having figured that he would have to start right away.

"And what are about Jon and Winterfell," he asked.

"No need to worry about our champion we have the one you call Old Nan who will take care of him while you are gone and besides it is not like you will be spending all of your time in the library as you will be spending some of your time here to get yourself used to the role of leadership and the day to day running of the Castle again, but there will be not much to do in that regard as you have experienced what with you being the first ranger of the Watch," she said. Benjen stood up and held out his hand for her, which she took

He nodded at that as old Nan had never held anything against Jon, always opting to teach him of the North and tell him the same stories he had heard from her as a child, just showing how long she has been in Winterfell. With the assurance that Jon and everything in Winterfell will be alright. He stood up and held out his hand for her to take which she did and stood up and hooked her hand through his arm, as well and they both made their way to the door, and just like before Benjen put the key in the lock then locked and unlocked the door as he pulled the door open it was to the room he was in before, he took a deep breath and turned to look at Alice who turned as well and gave him a reassuring smile one that he returned, he turned back and stepped through the door to see Jenkins standing by one of the tables with a book tacked underneath his arm, with a smile on his face.

"Well then shall we get started," he said as he showed Benjen and Alice to take a seat at the table which had maps and books on it, Benjen took his seat, and he looked at the maps to see that they were detailed maps of both the North and the rest of Westeros.

In the Riverlands Just outside the CrownLands near the Isle of Faces.

Ned Stark

They had left Kingslanding half a moon ago and had finished with Jorah Mormont and Lynesse Hightower's wedding after the knighting of said man by the King, the wedding was held in the Isle of Faces after the tourney to celebrate the successful war against the Greyjoys surprisingly enough, which was a point for the new Lady of Bear Island with not only the Lords of the North but with also her new family and when asked why she chose to get married in front of a Weirwood tree, she had replied that it was the religion of her husband and his people which was another thing that endured her to the Northerns even more while at the same time, causing people to ask why couldn't their Lord Pariamant wife couldn't do that. Why couldn't she accept their home, their religion, their way of live, their very own people?

Ned sighed it was not the first time he had heard this and quite frankly speaking he was sure that it would not be the last time that he would hear about it not that it was not for a lack of trying to get Catelyn to convert to the Old Gods but he would never force her to that is just not the man he is.

He stood up and went to the river bank and stared at the Ise of faces and as he did a lot of memories came rushing back to him of beautiful midnight back and lavender eyes he fell in love and was still in love with even now but before he could dive deep in that rabbit hole of painful memories he was brought out of them by a voice to his side.

"Good evening Lord Stark," said a man.

Well there you have it guys chapter 4, I would who is the man that approached Ned and what will their eventual conversation lead to. And as for Benjen, he is seeing how Ned fucked up with his overreliance on his honor and how double standard it is.

Anywho let me what you guys think of this chapter, and I am still looking for a beta reader so if you guys know someone or can recommend someone who would be willing to do it, please let me know.

A while ago I read a story called the Destroyer of Worlds by Bloomsbrry in which Lyanna finds a chakra Tree and eats its fruit then gains the same powers as Kaguya etc, etc... I would like to get in touch with them as their story gave so many ideas of where it could go and yes I have tried to p.m them but they have not replied as of yet so if you guys know of any other way I can get in contact with them I would greatly appreciate it.
