Robin slammed the door to her room and leaned against it, breathing heavily.
What is wrong with me? she thought to herself.
When she looked into Angelo's eyes after delivering Yato to Corrin, her entire world had dropped away. For all of Robin's talk about not wanting to join the girls' contest, she had underestimated the effect that looking into those chocolatey brown eyes might have on her.
The entire world dropped away when their eyes met. Robin's heart started racing (it still was) and she barely heard Corrin speaking as Robin handed her the sword…What sword? Oh, right. Yato.
She couldn't even remember simple things now. Look at what he's done to me! she thought to herself.
With trembling legs, the tactician walked over to her bed and sat down heavily upon it, trying to calm herself down. It was no use. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw his face. Sure, he was on the floor, doing Naga-knows-what with Corrin, but when he stood, she felt a feeling in her chest that she instantly recognized, a feeling she only ever experienced with Chrom. That feeling was–
"NO!" she screamed, jumping off her bed. "No, no no no! It isn't possible! It isn't right!"
She was pacing now, refusing to believe the feelings in her heart. Surely, she was not in love with the swordsman! And yet, the way the sunlight shone on his face, making his, admittedly, handsome features practically glow, was enough to make her weak.
What do I tell Chrom? Robin thought to herself.
She sighed with misery and fell backwards on the floor, laying down and facing the ceiling. She couldn't think. She couldn't think about anything other than Angelo's face.
Breathe, Robin, the tactician told herself. Surely, it was some…mistake. These feelings were false. Chrom was the one who held her heart at the moment, and she was determined to keep it that way.
"I just need…a rest. Yes, a good rest. That…that will help clear my mind," she said to no one.
With a sigh of relief, she got up off the floor and threw herself onto her bed, not even bothering to change out of her cloak. She was exhausted.
Her last thought was of Angelo as sleep took over.
Robin fell onto a couch in the Rest Area, her heart once again pounding out a frenzied beat against her chest.
It was one thing to see Angelo, but to talk to him, with his full attention on her, was another thing entirely.
Once again, she was mesmerized by his eyes. Those accursed eyes. Those blasted, damnable, enchanting, lovely eyes. And she was touching him! She had grabbed his arm and practically yanked him off the couch after seeing him with Daisy. How dare she! The princess shouldn't have been with him. Why was she even talking to him!?
Wait…Why was she getting mad over Daisy being with Angelo?
Her original plan had been to tell the swordsman about the girls' wager to win his heart. Unfortunately, her (completely false) feelings for him had risen up like the magma inside of a volcano. It had taken all of her willpower not to break down like Lucina did when the swordswoman told the tactician of her failure to catch Angelo's heart.
She was, honestly, impressed that she managed to stay completely neutral on the outside, but her brain had almost completely shut down. She couldn't bear to break the news to Angelo, so she decided to tell him about Palutena's apology. The goddess had confessed that she had indeed gone too far during her…encounter with Angelo. She hadn't asked Robin to tell him this, but it was the only way to save herself from a potentially awkward situation.
It was time to confront this problem head-on. She needed to talk to Angelo about this. It was the only way she'd be able to put this to rest.
Tomorrow, she decided. Tomorrow, I am going to put an end to this.
With that, she stood up off the couch and walked to her room, pondering what she was going to say.
Robin was a nervous mess.
She'd missed her chance last night when she saw Angelo go to the cliffside area not too far from the Smash Mansion. After much debating and thinking, she decided to join him. Unfortunately, Rosalina had already gotten to him by the time she'd arrived. She hid behind a tree as Angelo passed by, watching as he left Rosalina at the cliff. After gloating a bit to the princess, the tactician returned to bed even more nervous than before. She found herself glad that Rosalina wasn't able to seal the deal, then scolded herself for feeling that way. She did not have feelings for Angelo, though she was getting tired of saying that to herself.
Now she was walking through the Mansion, trying to find the swordsman and set things right. One way or another, she was going to end this.
And then she found him. He was in the Rest Area.
Talking to Pyra.
Robin gasped and hid around the corner of the doorway, hoping they didn't see her. When the sound of their voices didn't change, she took a chance and peeked into the room.
The swordsman laughed. "You kidding me? I should thank you. That was one of the best battles of my life."
So the two of them had a battle. The tactician wished she could say she was surprised.
It was a second before Robin heard Pyra's response. "And…I truly am sorry about…you and your father. Like I said, I'm sure he'd be proud of you for who you've become now."
Angelo's father? Robin thought to herself. It occurred to her that she'd never heard mention of Angelo's parents. What would he have to do with this?
She saw Angelo smile. "Thanks," he said. And yeah, I agree. I also think…he would've liked you, Pyra. I don't know how I know that…I just do."
It was then that Robin took notice of how close the two swordfighters were standing. Angelo didn't seem uncomfortable in the slightest. Pyra, on the other hand, looked like she was trying to hold something in, and she couldn't have looked more nervous.
Then it happened.
Pyra rose on her toes a bit and closed her eyes, parting her lips slightly. Robin gasped as the Fire Aegis leaned in for a–
"What are you doing?" Angelo asked.
Robin felt a small pulse of pain in her heart when she saw Pyra's expression become one of despair.
"Um…" she said. "I…Uh, I–"
"You've got terrible form," the other Fighter said. "You should do it like this."
He grabbed her face and pulled her in, kissing her on the lips.
Robin's heart completely shattered at that moment. A sobbing gasp escaped from her mouth as she hid herself behind the doorway, unable to bear the scene in front of her. She slid down to the floor and wept. She cried over what shouldn't have been but could've been. Knowing that the tactician wasn't the one Angelo held in his heart was devastating to her.
"Robin?"
Robin and her heart jumped at the same time at the calling of her name. She looked up to see Chrom standing in front of her.
"What…What is wrong, my dear?" the swordsman asked her.
Even more tears spilled forth as Robin sprang to her feet and threw herself at Chrom, hugging him tightly and not planning on letting go anytime soon.
"Chrom!" she cried, barely able to speak through her tears. "Promise me…Promise me you'll never leave me! Promise me!"
"Ah!" the other Fighter yelped, seemingly shocked at Robin's sudden outburst. "A-Alright! I…I promise! Don't worry, I'll…I'll always be here for you. What is wrong?"
Robin sniffled and gasped as she held Chrom even tighter. "I'll…I'll explain later. I'm just…I am glad you're here, Chrom."
Chrom let out a nervous laugh. "O-Of course. Why would I leave you? You are the only one I love."
Hearing that, Robin half-laughed, half-sobbed as well. It was a bittersweet realization that Angelo did not feel the same way she did for him, and she was glad that it now cleared any confusion about who she truly loved.
"I love you, too, Chrom," she whispered. "I swear that nothing will ever change that."
The swordsman smiled. "That is all I need to hear, my love."
Did you really think I was gonna leave Robin out of this?
I was debating on whether or not I should write a chapter for Robin. Now, here we are, like 5 months later, and I finally did it. ADHD Brain does not help with procastinating.
That's the end for real, this time. Thanks for reading, and remember to Stay Epic, Gamers.
