Sam groaned as she opened her eyes to the sound of her mom calling her name. She looked around, realizing she was in the woods again. She couldn't see her mom, however accepting that she was alone, but her mother's voice echoed around me.
"Samantha." Sam turned around to see a woman with long wavy hair. She had two identical heads on both sides of her own.
"My mom. I hear her.", Sam says, immediately wondering. "What's happening?"
The woman's face frowned. "She's alive. I can't completely reach her either. But you do have to get her. Save her."
"How? How can I when I don't know where she's at?", Sam asked, defeated.
The woman looked at her, the torch in her hand lighting her pale face. "You'll know. That woman. The Darach. She has kept her some place nearby. Find the area, save your mother."
Sam frowned. "We have to get her.", Sam says, and closed her eyes once more.
Sam sat up quickly, gasping for air as she looked around. She relaxed once she realized she was in Derek's bed in his loft. She looked at her wrapped side. It was sore; she couldn't feel the stabbing pain anymore.
She looked up as she saw Scott, Derek and Stiles' relieved faces once they saw her awake. "Where is she?", Sam asked them.
"Coming here.", Derek said. Sam looked at him in disbelief, quickly getting out of the bed.
"Why is she cominghere? Here, of all places.", Sam fussed.
"We just figured it's our best bet. She'll be coming here.", Scott said, glancing at Derek.
"You told them everything?", Sam asked Derek. He nodded.
"Okay, then, we need a plan. Do we have something that'll stop her once she gets here? She whooped our asses.", Sam says.
"I tried.", Scott said, offended. "We need to get her with Derek and let her think she's alone."
Stiles rolled his eyes.
"And then what, Scott? Is that the only plan you could come up with?", Sam asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Right now, you're in no condition to fight anyways. You're healing, but not completely. What were you thinking fighting her anyway? Now she thinks you're a threat.", Derek told her.
"I see, considering she stabbed me.", Sam expressed, with an emphasis of widening her eyes.
"Just, get her in a room with all of us and maybe we'll get some answers.", Scott told Derek.
"We need to know where my dad is.", Stiles said, and Sam's face dropped in recollection. "I stopped her from sacrificing Lydia… My mom. She took my mom instead.", Sam muttered, frowning.
Derek looked between Sam and Stiles with a look of disbelief. Like he couldn't believe that both were taken. The woman he'd spent time with…one that treated him as if he had popped out of a fantasy romance novel… she did all of this.
Sam looked at Derek, frustrated. "Just…act like you don't know what she's talking about."
"We have to get an answer out of her. I-I have to save my dad.", Stiles declared.
"If she doesn't talk," Sam stepped up to Derek and Scott. "I'm killing her. This has to end."
The trio left to hide where she couldn't see, leaving Derek out in the open. A few minutes passed and they heard heels rushing into the loft. "Derek?", Ms. Blake yelled after opening the loft door. Her breathing was heavy. "Derek, where are you?"
"Right here.", he answered back, walking in the room.
"Oh, thank God." Ms. Blake let out a sigh of relief. She made her way over to Derek, wrapping his arms around him. "Something happened at the recital—at the school. I need to tell you before you hear it, before you hear any of it from them."
"From who?", Derek innocently tilted his head.
"Scott, Stiles, and Sam. They're going to tell you things—things you can't believe. Sam even has magic powers! You have to trust me, okay? You trust me?", she pleaded.
"What is it?"
"Promise you'll listen to me."
"Promise.", Derek nodded his head. He couldn't even give anymore effort to kiss her back once her lips placed themselves on his.
The room fell silent for a moment.
"They're already here, aren't they?", she gravely asked. Stiles, Scott and Sam walked out.
"You conniving bitch.", Sam growled. The woman turned to them. Her eyes widened, gazing at Sam's healed wound. She was sure she stabbed her deep enough.
"So, they told you it was me? That I'm the one taking people?", Ms. Blake asked him.
"Taking…killing. How about both?", Stiles said as Ms. Blake laughed sarcastically.
"Oh, that's right! Committing human sacrifices, what, cutting their throats? Yeah, I-I probably do it on my lunch hour that way I can get back to teaching high school English the rest of the day. That makes perfect sense.", she exclaimed.
"You're not fooling anyone. What did you do to our parents?", Sam pressed, walking up to her. Scott held her at a distance.
"Where's my dad?", Stiles asked with watery eyes.
"How should I know?" Ms. Blake turned to Derek. "Derek, tell me you don't believe this."
Derek's eyes flickered to Scott, Stiles, and Sam. He looked at the two who stared back at him with hope in their eyes. They were relying on him once more. "Do you know what happened to their parents?", he asked her whilst looking at them.
"No.", she whined.
"Ask her why she almost killed Lydia and Sam.", Stiles yelled.
"Lydia Martin? I don't know anything about that!", she lied.
"You didn't deny almost killing Sam.", Derek said, making the woman look at him with wide eyes. "So, what do you know?", Derek asked, crossing his arms.
"I know that these kids, for whatever misguided reason, let it be jealousy or hate, are filling your head with an absurd story! One they can'tproveby the way.", she declared.
Scott held up a bottle filled with a dirt brown powder in his hand, shaking it.
"You wanna lie again?", Sam challenged.
"What is that?", Ms. Blake asked, now serious.
"My boss told me it's a poison and a cure, which means you can use it, and it can be used against you." Scott unscrewed the cap and took a few steps forward. Ms. Blake took a defensive stance.
"Mistletoe?"
Scott threw the powder at Ms. Blake as a cloud of brown Mistletoe transformed her into the Darach.
She thrashed her body, screeching and revealing her pale white, torn face. Once the dust had disappeared, Ms. Blake was left heavily gasping for air.
Derek backed away, bewildered. She looked at him before trying to run. Derek easily caught her by the throat, pulling her backwards.
"Derek! Wait, wait," Ms. Blake yelled as Derek's claws extended from his free hand. "You need me!"
"What are you?", he growled out.
"The only person who can save your sister!" she gasped, making him falter. Sam frowned. Was she really gonna play this game…?
"Call Peter! Call him!" Sam reluctantly took her phone from her pocket and called Peter.
"I don't really have the time to talk right now, Samantha.", Peter answered.
"What's going on with Cora?", Sam asked.
"It's not good. She's in and out of consciousness; she's vomiting a black blood along with one other alarming substance—"
Sam's eyes widen a bit. "Mistletoe.", she says, looking at the Darach.
"How did you know that?", he suddenly asked. Sam hung up and Derek's face scrunched up in anger and hate as he squeezed Ms. Blake's throat tighter.
"Derek—Derek, what are you doing?", Scott asked, alerted. His grip never loosened.
"Her life! It's in my hands!", Ms. Blake cried out. Derek lifted her off the ground, making her rasp for air.
"Stop! Derek! Stop!" Scott looked at Sam, but Sam didn't spare a glance. She was playing with people's lives, playing with ours.
"Stilinski, you'll never find him!", the Darach threatened Stiles.
"Derek.", Scott warned. "Derek!", Scott sounded out Derek's name in a command. Derek looked conflicted but snatched his hand away from Ms. Blake's throat and let her fall to the ground.
Ms. Blake let out a quiet chuckle and it immediately pissed Sam off. Sam could hear a familiar voice whisper to her. "Kill her."
"That's right. You need me.", Ms. Blake looked at Derek and then looked at them. "All of you.", she smirked evilly.
"You don't need her. Kill her.", the familiar, chaotic voice whispered. Sam raised her hand at the English teacher, causing her to gasp, startled as she levitated.
Scott, Derek and Stiles looked at Sam in shock as she raised her hand higher. "You like to play with people's lives. You think this shit is a joke. We'll see who's laughing once you're nothing but dust.", Sam said calmly as she walked over to her.
"You'll never find the Sheriff.", Ms. Blake laughed, and Sam clenched her fist, making the woman's limbs stick out as if she was getting ready to make a snow angel.
"I'll find him, and I'll find my mom. You'll be dead regardless.", Sam says, as the Darach groaned in pain.
"Sam, stop!", Stiles pleaded. Sam glowered at the woman as she began to scream in pain, her limbs stretching painfully.
"I don't hear a laugh. What happened to that?", Sam asked as Scott pulled at her.
"You're an embodiment of night!", Ms. Blake screamed, making Sam falter. The girl tilted her head in confusion. "What?"
"Those voices you hear, the sudden powers you got, it's not a coincidence. You being immune to the bite, it doesn't make you not infected. You could be something, but you'll never figure it out if you kill me.", she says.
Stiles came beside Sam with watery eyes. "Sam…please."
Sam sighed harshly and dropped her. She groaned, wrapping her arms around herself. "As I said, you all need me."
They arrived at the hospital, Derek holding Ms. Blake's arm tightly. Sam, Scott and Stiles, who for some reason was carrying a baseball bat in his hands, followed him.
They walked through the clambering hospital in a rush, trying to get Cora out. They had to get to her, now. Nurses and sickly patients were fleeing out of the hospital as doctors were yelling orders at every nurse.
"Scott! Scott!" They all turned around to see Melissa running up to her son. "What are you doing here? The hospital's evacuating."
"We're here for Cora.", Scott informed.
"All of you?" Melissa glared at her son, to Derek holding Ms. Blake, to Sam then to Stiles. "Why does Stiles have my bat?"
"Mom, just trust me on this. You need to get out of here. Right now.", Scott said.
"The building is supposed to be clear in thirty minutes. We've got two ambulances that are coming back. One's in ten minutes out the others in twenty. Cora needs to be on one of those. They'll be picking up in the basement garage.", his mom informed.
Scott nodded. And they were off to the third floor. They entered the elevator, ready to get Cora.
"You don't need to keep me on a leash, Derek. I'm going to help." Ms. Blake stopped for a minute, looking behind her.
Scott was glaring at her, ready to take control at any moment. Stiles had his bat ready to slam the wooden equipment over her head, Derek kept his gaze up, and Sam stood in the upper left corner by Derek, glaring at the older woman.
Ms. Blake rolled her eyes, and they awaited the uncomfortable elevator ride to be over. The elevator dinged when it reached Cora's floor, and they rushed out as the doors opened.
Finally, they reached Cora's room and were cautious to see her in her bed.
"What?", Derek whispered, letting go of Ms. Blake. The room was empty. Peter nor Cora was here. There was a pool of black liquid on the floor, but no one was here. Where the hell was his sister?
"Derek.", Scott called to his attention. Derek's head whipped around, and they followed Scott's gaze of the black spots of blood leading behind closed doors. As they heard loud growls, the doors in front of them busted open and Peter came sliding through, stopping right at their feet. He groaned in pain. "We've got a problem."
They looked up and saw the twins in their Alpha form. The creature growled at them as their eyes fell on Cora lying unconscious behind them.
"Big problem.", Peter mumbled. "Wonderful.", Sam rolled her eyes at the odds. Derek charged at the Voltron wolf with Scott following close behind.
"Ethan, Aiden! No!", Sam yelled as they threw Derek to the ground. Scott bounced from wall to wall and began fighting the conjoined wolf.
Stiles looked at Sam and Peter as he glanced at Cora. "Help me.", he told Peter and Sam, as he bent down to pick up his bat and finally charged into the dogfight to get Cora. The twins were holding Scott up by his throat and he was struggling.
"All we want is her.", they growled, their voices echoing. Sam came up behind them, shoulder ramming them to the wall as they dropped Scott. She moved out of the way as they tried to swing at her.
Derek growled, regaining his strength and attempting to stand up. His gaze stared behind her at the elevator. Sam quickly looked behind her to see Ms. Blake backed away into the elevator. She looked at them sympathetically.
Sam got up and started running towards the closing doors as the Alphas also ran behind her, hunting down the older woman. Sam practically threw herself in the elevator as it closed. She glared at her. "Where the hell did you think you were going?"
Ms. Blake pushed her into the metal wall of the elevator, making it shake. "You do things my way from now on.", she reprimanded as if she were her mother.
"You keep fucking with me like I didn't just have you in the air moments ago.", Sam narrowed her eyes at her.
The elevator dinged once they reached the first floor. Ms. Blake snatched Sam's bicep and dragged her out of the elevator. She stopped as she sensed something and stared straight ahead into the dim hallway. Kali and Deucalion came walking in from around the corner.
Shit.
Ms. Blake backed up in fear as the blind Alpha took the cap off his cane and threw it their way. Sam ducked, as it almost hit Ms. Blake and finally ended up stabbing the wall. Kali began running towards us, quickly huffing as she glared at them.
"Where was the energy when you kicked my ass?", Sam scoffed as Ms. Blake dragged her back into the elevator. She clicked the second-floor button multiple times as Kali was charging at them.
The Darach pressed them against a wall, waiting for the doors to close. The doors were about to close, only for Kali to pry her hands onto the door to open it wider.
Sam pushed Ms. Blake's arm off of her and sent a foot in Kali's chest, getting her to fly back so the doors could slam shut.
Ms. Blake stumbled back against the wall, heavily panting as she slumped against the wall. "So, what's your plan?", Sam asked.
"I told you; I'm helping Derek."
"Pretty sure Derek doesn't want your help. We don't want your help."
"The Alphas are after me. If I get out of this hospital alive, so will Cora. If I don't, neither does she."
"So, you're still trying to play with people's lives. You knew this and still played around with Derek? This man hardly has any family left and you think this shit is funny? You really wanna get fucked up, huh?", Sam narrowed her eyes at her.
"I don't think you're in the place to be threatening me. Come on, Sam, we both know that you wouldn't dare touch me when your mom and best friend's dad's lives are on the line."
"Keep that shit up.", Sam warned, glaring at her.
"You'll never find out what you are.", she tried to bribe.
"At this point, I really don't care. I'd find out regardless, but you'll still be dead.", Sam rebutted.
"Try and kill me, and I'll just rip Derek's throat out right in front of you. And I'll kill Stilinski slowly and painfully.", she threatened.
"You're beyond thin ice with me. You keep fucking around and find out.", Sam warned.
"So will they." The elevator dinged and Ms. Blake dragged her out onto the second floor.
"Where are we going?", Sam asked.
"To the only people that can protect me.", she replied, making Sam look at her in confusion. Now,she wanted protection?
"Where's the big guy?", Peter asked as all of the other three boys and an unconscious Cora came into an operating room.
"He's close." Derek announced.
"What about Ms. Blake?", Stiles asked and began to look around. He paused as he did. Neither his best friend nor the older woman came in the room with them. "Wait…wait, where's Sam?"
Peter and Derek's eyes darted around to look. She hadn't come back. Shit.
Scott looked at his best friend sympathetically and shook his head.
"What? What does that mean, like she's gone? Scott, are you kidding me? You let that psycho take her!?", Stiles yelled looking behind Scott.
"Shhh, quiet!", Derek scolded. Stiles storms up to Derek.
"Me be quiet?Me,huh? You telling me what to do now when your psychotic and mass murdering girlfriend—the second one you've dated by the way—has got my dad and Sam's mom somewhere tied up and ritually sacrificed? Not to mention she now has my best friend.", Stiles rushed.
"Stiles! They're still out there.", Scott hushed.
"And they want her, right? Which means we don't have her either. So, my dad, Cora, Sam and her mom are all dead!", Stiles exclaimed.
"Not yet.", Scott reassured, walking over to Peter to talk to him.
"You had better hearing this entire time?", Sam asked, accusingly as Ms. Blake led her through hallways and as she followed Derek's voice. She busted them through the doors of an operating room.
"You can't.", she told them, taking Sam a few steps in. "Only I can. I can save her, and I can tell you where Sheriff Stilinski and the others are. But there is a pack of Alphas in this hospital who want me dead. So, I'll help you, but only when I'm out of here and safe. Only then."
Sam huffed, angry as she was holding their parents' hostage. Suddenly, Derek angrily threw a table with medicine and needles aside and charged at Ms. Blake until Scott held him back.
"Derek, wait!", Scott stopped, pushing Derek away.
"She was trying to get out. She could've gotten Sam killed." Derek pointed at the English teacher.
"I was trying to keep fromgettingkilled. You can't blame me for that.", she said.
"Uh, yeah, we can.", Sam says.
"If you want to show you're one of the good guys, then heal her and let her go.", Stiles demanded, pointing a finger from Cora to Sam.
"Not until I'm safe.", she protested.
"I'd like to volunteer a different method of persuasion. Let's torture her.", Peter suggested, menacingly.
"Works for me.", Derek growled, trying to get out of Scott's grasp.
"You're really threatening to kill the niece of an ex-murderer?", Sam asked Ms. Blake, nodding her head at Peter. The commotion came to a pause when the hospital intercom turned on.
"Um, can I have your attention? Mr. Deucalion—excuse me, just Deucalion, requests you bring the woman calling herself Jennifer Blake to the ER reception. Do this and everyone else can leave. You have ten minutes.", Melissa McCall's shaky voice echoed through the room.
Sam glared at the woman as Derek and Peter glanced from Scott to her.
"He's not going to hurt her.", Ms. Blake said.
"Shut up.", Derek and Sam yelled at the same time. She yanked her arm out of her grip and walked between him and Peter for protection.
"He won't." Ms. Blake disagreed. "Scott, you know why. Tell them it's true."
"What does she mean?" Derek's eyes narrowed at Scott. Ms. Blake rolled her eyes and scoffed when Scott failed to answer.
"You're not the only one he wants in his pack.", she told Derek.
"Okay, he wants a bigger pack. Big deal.", Sam rolled her eyes.
"Deucalion doesn't just want the Alpha pack, he wants perfection. That means adding the rarest of Alphas to his ranks."
"Hold on a second, there's types of Alphas?", Stiles asked.
"True Alpha." Peter mused to himself. All their heads snapped to look at the former Alpha.
"Why am I not surprised that you knew about this.", Sam mumbled.
"What is that?", Stiles asked.
"The kind that doesn't have to steal his power from another," Peter took a long, judging glare at Derek, "one that can rise at the force of his own will. Our little Scott.", Peter smiled.
Derek and Sam looked back at Scott, who seemed to already know what Peter was talking about.
"How come you look like you've already heard of this?", Sam asked.
"Doesn't matter," Scott gave her a reassuring look before he turned to Ms. Blake, "We still need to get her out of here."
"Scott, your mom!", Stiles reminded.
"My mom said there's one more ambulance coming in twenty minutes and I-I don't think we've been here that long. So, if we can get down to the garage and get to the last ambulance we can get out of here."
"The twins aren't just going to let us walk out.", Peter reminded.
"I'll distract them and fight them. Whatever I have to do.", Scott nodded.
"I'll help you.", Derek stated.
"Umm, sorry but I'm not going anywhere without you, Derek.", Blake said.
"Of course not.", Sam rolled her eyes.
"I'll do it.", Peter offered. "But I'd prefer to be out there with an advantage."
"Advantage? Like what? You mean like a weapon?", Stiles asked.
"Something better than a baseball bat."
"Just use your claws.", Sam says.
"I was thinking something different." Peter turned his head and glared at the drug storage units behind them. They proceeded to shuffle through all the drawers in the room, looking for something that could stop the combined alpha twins.
"Hey! Wait!" Stiles called their attention and held up a defibrillator. "What about these?"
"What is that gonna do?", Sam asked.
"Do you even know how to use those?", Derek asked.
"Well…no.", Stiles shrugged.
"Then put it down.", Derek said, continuing to rummage. Sam frown at the woman that just stuck out like a sore thumb.
"Are you going to help or just stand there?", Sam asked Ms. Blake as she stood there.
"How about you keep looking.", she suggested.
"How about you tell us where the hell our parents are and we hand you off to those fuckers?", Sam argued, pushing aside a cart.
"Find something, Sam.", she growled. Sam grabbed an unknown syringe and pointed it at her. "Keep that shit up.", she threatened.
"Epinephrine?", Scott spoke up, lifting a syringe of his own.
"That's only gonna make them stronger.", Derek shook his head.
"How strong?", Peter asked, pausing his search through the cabinets.
"Fair amount. It's like adrenaline.", Derek explained.
"Perfect.", Peter looked at the substance in Scott's hands.
"So, what's your plan? Shoot yourself up with some drugs?", Stiles challenged. Sam grabbed the large syringe from Scott and examined it. Could it really make Peter stronger?
"If I don't inject it into my system, but my heart, it should make me stronger for a longer period of time and it'll speed up the reaction process.", Peter explained.
"So what, you stab yourself in the heart with it and let it sink in?", Stiles asked.
"Basically, yes." Peter took a few steps forward towards them. Sam looked at Peter, to the large syringe, and quickly stabbed Peter in the chest, inserting the drug into him.
"Thank you, Samantha.", he winced.
"Yeah.", she grimaced.
"Are you ready?", Scott asked him.
"Ready as I'll ever be.", Peter nodded, walking out the door with Scott. The doors closed behind them, and Sam hesitated leaving Scott and Peter alone, but decided to leave anyway.
Stiles and Sam went first, Ms. Blake and Derek, who was draping Cora over his shoulder, followed behind then. They ran through the dark hallways, finally finding an ambulance.
"It's still here!", Stiles alerted as they busted through the basement level doors. The ambulance was sitting there, its lights still flashing brightly.
Stiles and Sam yanked open the doors of the vehicle while Derek held Cora. Stiles quickly climbed in and took Cora from Derek, placing her on the stretcher.
"Derek, over here.", Ms. Blake called. Sam and Derek looked around the ambulance door to see the woman staring straight ahead. They walked over and stood beside her to see the horrific sight she was looking at. The body of the ambulance driver laid face down on the ground, bloodied and cut up.
"Holy shit.", Sam whispered as they slowly walked towards the dead man.
"Julia.", Kali's sang, her voice echoing through the halls. Who the hell was Julia?
They could hear her swinging the ambulance keys on her finger.
The female Alpha walked out from behind the front of the ambulance to reveal her smiling self. "It is you." Ms. Blake took a step back to hide herself behind Derek.
Sam looked over at Stiles, silently motioning with her head for him to close the ambulance doors. He silently did, ducking to hide.
"You can't beat her on your own.", Ms. Blake stated.
"That's why we're going to run.", Derek sighed. Ms. Blake slowly backed up towards Sam and burst into a sprint. Sam did the same, and Derek quickly followed and quickly got himself ahead of the two. Kali roared loud enough to make the ground shake.
Derek made a sharp right as Jennifer stopped in her tracks; Sam followed her to make sure she wasn't trying to take off without them.
"Wait, wait! The elevator!", Ms. Blake said and began running in the opposite direction of Derek. Sam ran after her as Derek turned around and saw Kali sprinting right for him.
Ms. Blake and Sam threw themselves into the elevator and Sam hurriedly pressed the button for the third floor as Derek shoved a hospital gurney at Kali to block her.
Derek made it in the elevator in time and they all pressed their backs up against the cold metal wall, holding their breath.
As the doors closed a split second before Kali could stop it, they sighed in relief only for the elevator lights to begin flashing eerily and finally the elevator jumped to a stop, the lights shutting off and the emergency battery lights in the corner flipping on. The three of them looked around in silence.
"I hate it here.", Sam sighed. Derek walked forward and pried the elevator doors slightly open, sighing as he saw that they weren't even at a floor.
A concrete wall blocked their exit. There was a little gap of free space at the top where the third floor was. They were so close, but barely.
"Uh, if you're thinking the service hatch, they open from the outside, so you'd have to break it.", Ms. Blake informed as Derek walked over and glared at the elevator's ceiling.
"Well.", Sam shrugged.
"All you'll end up doing is creating a lot of noise, telling them exactly where we are."
"Kali already knows.", Derek says.
"Not necessarily!", Ms. Blake exclaimed.
"Is she really gonna believe that we magically left the elevator?", Sam asked, crossing her arms.
"She saw that we got in, but she might not know that we didn't get out."
"Yeah, well if I get through there, we can go to another floor.", Derek said.
"Or you'd end up fighting them alone in an elevator shaft."
Derek walked back over to the doors and Ms. Blake panicked. "They'll rip my head off before you even have a chance to land a punch!", she exclaimed.
"Y'know, I wouldn't mind that.", Sam mumbled.
"Yeah? Well, how about that they'll kill all of you.", she narrowed her eyes at Sam. Derek paused, taking a breath.
"Someone needs to get the backup generator running again." He took out his phone and began typing a message to Scott.
"Don't move, on our way." Derek read the reply out loud.
"No shit, Scott.", Sam sighed, running her hands over her face. Derek looked over at Sam and gave her an assuring nod. As much as Sam appreciated it, she just couldn't be settled. She shook her head and glanced at Ms. Blake. The woman gave her a hopeful smile and Sam frowned.
Sam stood beside Derek, silently fuming as he glared at his phone. They'd been waiting for Scott for what seemed like forever, and he never showed.
"Anything?", Ms. Blake asked Derek after a while. He didn't answer. "Derek, I know what you're thinking. That I'm using you, that everything that has happened between us is a lie, or that I'm evil."
He did think that. He knew it was weird of her to be so calm about his wounds. To tell him he shouldn't have gone after his friends… She was trying to have him to herself and in the moment, he didn't mind it.
Now he just felt disgusted.
Sam rolled her eyes.
"But I hope you're not thinking the most superficial thought…'is that her real face? The slashed, mutilated face revealed by the mistletoe, is that what she really looks like?'
"Then who are you, really?", Sam asked.
"Julia Baccari. That was my name.", the woman confessed. "I don't care.", Derek stated.
"I guess I should have changed it to something with different first letters. I think I read somewhere that people always pick aliases that are subconsciously derivative of their original name.", she sadly smiled. "It's a way of not completely letting go of your identity, since your name is so tied to your sense of self…do you know what else is?"
"Should we care?", Sam asked.
"Your face—the one that's supposed to be staring back at you in the mirror. Not some hacked up atrocity you can't even recognize."
"I still don't care.", Derek said.
"But I bet you're curious. I bet you wonder exactly what happened."
"You were an emissary. They tried killing you along with the rest of the pack. Mystery solved.", Derek summed.
"Already heard this before.", Sam said.
"Actually, I don't think you have.", Ms. Blake said. "I was Kali's emissary. And I was the one she couldn't kill. She attacked me after killing her pack. Slashed my face and body, cut me apart to feel all the pain I possibly could."
"So, long story short, she slit your throat and you died and magically came back to life.", Sam says, rolling her eyes.
The woman shook her head. "She left me there for the dead. She left me there lying on the ground. Dying."
"For years, the Nemeton's power was virtually gone, like the dying ember of a burned-out fire. But, a few months earlier, something happened that caused that ember to glow a little brighter. Something that gave it a spark of power again. The sacrifice of a virgin."
Sam furrowed her eyebrows in realization as Sam looked at her. There's no way. She's not…
"You didn't know what you were doing back then, but killing Paige in the root cellar, sacrificing her there, gave power to the Nemeton. You gave it power again. You gave me power.", she said, dreamily.
Derek's eyes widened as his shoulders dropped. He didn't meet Sam's eyes, if anything, he looked drastically pale from the news.
"Just enough to hold on to life a little longer. Long enough to be found.", Ms. Blake smiled at Derek with adoration while Derek looked like he wanted to puke. His chest tightened. Not only did he cause Paige's death, but her death fueled a psychotic woman who thinks she's doing the best for love.
It was sickening.
Sam growled and slammed the woman against the elevator wall. "You're spewing a bunch of shit at the wrong time. Your time is quickly running out with me in here."
"Get off of me.", Ms. Blake growled.
"The fact that you have the nerve to evenbring uphis situation with Paige is low, even for you. He didn't save you and honestly, I could give two shits about your little sob story.", Sam sneered.
Ms. Blake's eyes glowed white as Sam felt herself being slammed into the elevator door, gripping her shoulder in pain.
"Hey!", Derek yelled at Ms. Blake in warning.
"You play by my rules.", she ordered. Sam glared as she rolled her shoulder. "I'm not doing shit. All you have to do is save Cora and get off fucking our backs." She tried rushing at Sam, but Derek stepped in front of her, blocking her.
"Enough!", Derek yelled at the older woman.
They were back in silence after a while. Sam gave up standing and just sat instead, checking her phone every now and then.
"You know mistletoe is important to Druids, but do you know the myth of why people kiss under the mistletoe?", Ms. Blake suddenly spoke up.
"No.", Derek replied.
"It's a Norse myth. Baldur, the son of Odin, was the most beloved by the other Gods. So much that they wanted to protect him from all the dangers in the world. His mother Frigg took an oath from fire and water, metal, stone, and every living thing, that they would never hurt Baldur. At a gathering, they tested him. Stones, arrows, and flame were hurled at him. Nothing worked. But there was one God who wasn't so enamored of Baldur, the God of Mischief: Loki. Loki discovered that Frigg had forgotten to ask mistletoe, a tiny, seemingly harmless plant and completely overlooked. Loki fashioned a dart out of mistletoe, and it killed Baldur. Frigg was heartbroken. She decreed that mistletoe would never again be used as a weapon and that she would place a kiss on anyone who passed under it. So now we hang mistletoe underneath our door during the holidays…so that we will never overlook it again."
"Should've been a history teacher. Would've been a lot more convincing.", Sam muttered.
"We were the overlooked. The emissaries. It was a mistake, Deucalion and the Alpha's should never have made because I made an oath of my own. From virgins, and warriors, from healers, philosophers, and guardians, to loan me their power so that I could teach these monsters that their monstrous actions will never be overlooked."
"You've killed innocent people.", Derek said.
"So have you.", Ms. Blake replied. Sam glowered at her as Derek couldn't look at either of them. "I know the real color of your eyes, Derek. And I know what it means. I'm not asking you to save just my life; I'm asking you to save everyone they'll never hurt again."
"You can't beat them.", Derek said, looking down.
"Are you sure about that?", Ms. Blake smirked. "Boyd asked you right before he died what happens to a werewolf during the lunar eclipse. You didn't get the chance to tell him, but you know, don't you? What happens, Derek? During the total lunar eclipse?"
"We lose all our power.", he dully admitted. Sam looked at him in shock. "All of your power?", she asked. He nodded. "Including the Alphas?", Sam asked.
"Including the Alphas.", Ms. Blake nodded. Sam let out a sigh and stood up. "I'll help."
"Who said I wanted your help?" Ms. Blake frowned at her.
"You said Derek could barely beat Kali on his own, what makes you think you wouldn't need more help? So, with that being said, we help you kill the alphas, you give me my mom back, return the sheriff to Stiles, heal Cora and you skip town. Forever.", Sam ordered.
Ms. Blake thought for a moment and smiles. "Deal."
Sam narrowed her eyes at her. She never trusted her. She doubted the woman trusted her, but she'd never know what was coming for her.
A few minutes later, Derek got a text from Scott saying that they had a plan, explaining that Allison was here, and she'd meet them on the floor. Ms. Blake had to take off her shoes as Derek stepped forward and pried the elevator doors open once more. Allison came and crouched down as she took the heels through the gap.
"Be careful.", Sam whispered to her. She nodded and smiled at her before running off. They were back to waiting again.
Sam felt herself getting tired so suddenly and Derek stood beside her to keep her up. Soon enough, the lights started flickering back on and the elevator was lit once again, indicating the power was back. Derek pressed the first floor button and the elevator began revving to life.
"Derek, please." Ms. Blake pleaded. Derek and Sam looked from staring at the elevator buttons to the reflection in the elevator doors. They saw the Darach's actual face and their own eyes widened in shock.
The lights began flickering once again, the power struggling to hold onto life. They heard a loud shriek before passing out.
