Doctor Doctor woke up to find that she was in the U.Z.Z. infirmary, which was and wasn't weird because she'd remembered being left to die in Norilsk some time before. Actually, how long had she been here? Minutes? Hours? Days? She couldn't help but also notice the plastic tube that seemed to have been inserted into her chest wound. At least someone around here was tending to her wounds. Wait, wounds? Oh right, she'd also been shot in the knee, which happened to be the same knee she'd injured during that unicycle accident twenty-one years ago. As much as she wanted to get right out of bed and track down Maxime and beat him to within an inch of his life, her injuries prevented her from doing so right at that moment. It was probably better that way.
At that moment, Professor Professor came in to see her, a bouquet of flowers in his hand. He could hardly speak when he saw her. It took him about a minute before he could do it.
"Oh mein Gott, I was so worried sick!" Professor Professor exclaimed. "I was wondering what had happened. I thought you were going to die!"
"That's what I thought, too," Doctor Doctor replied before going into a coughing fit.
"So what exactly happened over there?"
It took a full minute before Doctor Doctor was able to speak again. "Maxime betrayed me and now has taken over T.H.E.M., that's what happened!" She started coughing again.
"Well, I can't say we didn't see this coming because we did, but still..." He laid the bouquet of flowers on the nightstand next to her. "I can't imagine how it must feel to be pushed aside like that, especially out of something you made."
"I should've stopped him when I had the chance."
Professor Professor reached out to squeeze her hand. "We all have our regrets."
All of a sudden, there was a knock at the door.
"Who is it?" Professor Professor asked.
"It's me, Ray," answered a disembodied masculine voice from the other side of the door.
"I see." Pause. "Come in."
The door opened to reveal Special Agent Ray. The blue-haired man walked towards the side of Doctor Doctor's bed where Professor Professor was.
"Kent and the others are recuperating quite well," Ray stated. "I've been told they'll make a full recovery."
"Thank you, Ray," Professor Professor replied. "Any update on the Impostors in Siberia? Victor and Anita haven't been captured or anything, have they?"
"No, sir."
"Good. I don't want to lose Victor just yet. I still need him for future experiments."
"Understood." Ray was about to leave when he craned his neck to face Professor Professor and Doctor Doctor. "Oh, and I hope everything works out for you two. Good luck. You'll really need it."
Ray left it at that and was off to report to other duties.
Doctor Doctor just looked at her boyfriend with a moon-eyed stare. "Please tell me you didn't tell anyone we're dating."
Professor Professor was silent on this matter.
Doctor Doctor's moon-eyed stare gave way for a look of first fear and panic, then tremoring anger. "I see. How could you do that?"
"I hadn't exactly planned on it. I just said it without even thinking."
"Do you have any idea what could happen if anybody else heard about it? You'd be scrutinized heavily. People would think you lost your mind getting into another relationship with me!" Her face softened a bit. "I couldn't bear to watch you suffer, at least not like that. I love you." Pause. "Wow, I can't believe I just said that."
"You know what? I don't care anymore. I love you, too, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let whatever people say about us get to me. If loving you is wrong, then I don't want to be right."
Doctor Doctor just looked at him, mystified by his response. "Really?"
"Really. Even if people like Stacy Stern are going to milk the ever-living hell out of our love life, I'll see to it that it doesn't affect us."
"O-okay..." Doctor Doctor wasn't sure how to process this. "I just hope you can do this."
Four weeks had passed since Doctor Doctor ended up going to the U.Z.Z. infirmary to treat her injuries. It was now Sunday, October 21st, and her chest wound had healed enough that she could breathe normally again. Her knee had also healed to an extent that she could leave the infirmary behind her, but it wasn't like how it was before. That laser gunshot wound Maxime gave her left her with a limp, which was inconvenient at best and career-ending at worst. It was absolutely devastating having to retire from being a baddie because of this, but she figured she'd give this decision some time before she could make peace with it.
Also, with Maxime having usurped Doctor Doctor as the leader of T.H.E.M., that technically also made her homeless, which meant she needed someplace new to call home. Naturally, she decided to go to Professor Professor and ask if she could move into his flat.
She softly knocked on the door.
"Who is it?" she heard a familiar voice asking from behind the door.
"It's me, Doctor Doctor," she replied. "I have something I need to ask you."
"Hold on a second." A few seconds passed by before Professor Professor opened the door. "Okay, come on in."
Doctor Doctor did just that and got a good look around the place. "Nice flat you've got here."
Professor Professor's flat was fairly modest for someone like him, especially someone who worked as the leading scientist at U.Z.Z. The colour palette for the interior of the living room consisted of shades of green and blue with the occasional shade of brown. Doctor Doctor had no idea what the rest of the flat must've looked like, but if there was one thing she could be certain about, it was that his home laboratory was as chaotic as the one at work.
Professor Professor beamed. "Oh, thank you. I've been trying to keep everything organized even when I'm not home."
"I see. So there's actually a reason I decided to come see you."
"And that reason would be...?"
"Well, seeing as I'm technically homeless now, I was wondering if I could move in with you, so to speak."
"I mean we are dating, so it wouldn't be too unreasonable. I'd have to talk to my landlady about that first, though."
"So is that a yes or a no?"
"It's a yes, but like I said, I'd need to talk to my landlady about it first. The application process is lengthy so it could be a while before you could move in."
"If you're going to talk to your landlady about this, can I come with to see what she's like?"
"I don't see why not."
The next day, Doctor Doctor decided to come with Professor Professor while he talked to the landlady about having the former baddie move in with him. In the meantime, Kent and Min-jun offered their own flat for their former boss to crash at. It was nice of them to take her in during a low point in her life, especially when they'd had to turn to her several times in their own lives (reluctantly, in Min-jun's case).
"So, erm, who exactly is your landlady?" Doctor Doctor asked Professor Professor.
Professor Professor's face lit up in surprise. "Oh, right, my landlady. Her name's Maggie Watson. She's Lucy Woo's twin sister. You know who Lucy Woo is, right?"
"I mean, why wouldn't I? She was an U.Z.Z. agent a long time ago."
"Right. Well, anyway, Maggie is Lucy's twin sister, and Lucy left her daughter Crystelle with her and her husband Chandler. Maggie was actually recruited for U.Z.Z. alongside Lucy, but only Lucy made it to the top rankings."
"Interesting."
Professor Professor nodded. "Certainly."
Soon enough, after several minutes of walking down the pavement, they'd reached Maggie and Chandler's house on 221B Baker Street.
"This is where she lives, right?" Doctor Doctor asked.
"Ja, it is," Professor Professor confirmed. "Not to worry, I've got this."
Professor Professor knocked on the door and then waited a few seconds before Maggie opened up. Yep, she was Lucy Woo's twin sister, alright. She had the same wrinkled almond-shaped dark brown eyes, the same small nose, and the same lips that had thinned with age. Her hair, done up in a bun held together by a gold butterfly hair clip, had turned a bluish-gray just like her sister's, as had her eyebrows. Her outfit consisted of just lavender silk pyjamas underneath a pastel pink dressing gown and matching lavender slippers.
"Oh, hello, Professor Professor," Maggie greeted. "What are you doing here?"
"Guten morgen, Maggie," Professor Professor greeted back. "I came here because I wanted to ask you something."
"What is it?" Suddenly, Maggie noticed Doctor Doctor standing beside him. "Oh my God, I'm calling U.Z.Z."
"What, why?"
"It's Doctor Doctor! Someone needs to deal with her!"
"What? No, Doctor Doctor's not here to terrorize you or whatever you think she was going to do."
"Wait, she's not?" Maggie let out a small sigh of relief. "So then why is she here?"
"Well, she's wanting to move in with me since she's technically homeless now. Plus, well, we're together and have been for a while."
Maggie's face lit up in surprise. "Oh yeah, I seem to recall Lucy telling me about you two. I can't say I agree with it, especially due to your girlfriend's... history, but it's not really my position to judge."
"So does that mean you approve or...?"
Maggie lifted up her hand to cut him off. "I approve. However, I don't want to hear about how she helped you trash the flat with another one of your crazy experiments, understood? Besides, you still owe me eighty pounds and twenty-one pence from your last experiment."
Professor Professor couldn't help but roll his eyes. "Ja, ja, I know."
"Why don't you come inside? I'll bring out the documents for you while you're here."
Professor Professor and Doctor Doctor followed Maggie inside her house to begin the process of becoming a tenant.
