Chapter 100: To The Northern Mountain

Red sighed quietly as his young companion walked around him with excitement. The red dragon watched her discover a world she never saw in her life.

They passed near the city of the humans. Red saw the stars sparkling in the eyes of Ember. He couldn't help, but feel that she was cute. He sighed in melancholy. He wondered if it would be like that if he had a blood child. Just a little dragon happily running around and causing a few mischiefs and near heart attack. As long as it wasn't Spyro or Nestor level, from what he found out, it was for the better.

"Don't go too far. We will take flight soon," he told her.

"Okay," the small pink dragon replied as she approached him.

"Remember that we will need to be careful when we reach the mountains. There might be trouble ahead. Be polite with the humans and don't insult them," he waved his finger at her.

"I won't."

"Good," he closed his eyes and nodded with a small resigned smile when she jumped back on his tail, "Did you do that with your blood father?"

"Yes. His tail is bigger, but he likes books a lot. Read and write," Ember answered.

"Not the most adventurous. Anyway, just don't-" he winced when she big his tail, "Be gentle when you make your fangs," he asked her. He lightly chuckled as she gently munched his tail. He held his scepter and watched the mountain. They were still far away. They were large and tall. The gray rocks and the snowy top made him a bit hesitant. He knew that flying to the top might be very difficult, especially with a child. He had to slow down to reach it and let their body adjusted to the altitude. Not only that, but he didn't know who would protect the forbidden artifact.

Red continued on his journey.

Meanwhile, the dark dragon Malefor flew near the large city. He observed it for a few minutes. He was impressed with the structure. He could see the magical shield that surrounded the city. A dragon couldn't come down and attack from above. The dragon had to agree that it was a good idea to protect any weak spots. The large structures felt like this town was made for giants. He made no comments. He continued on his journey after his bit of tourism. He had to reach the mountain and claim the Forbidden Artifact. That was one was pretty important to get.

He wondered how it would end up with the sister of the king. He had little clues about her might. He just had the feeling that none of them were exaggerated.

"Anyway. I need that artifact. With it, there is no limit at what I can do," he chuckled. He knew what the artifact was. He knew what it could do. He knew the importance of this one.

Each of the other artifacts were extremely draining when it came to magic. He had a lot, so the effect wasn't as intense as other dragons. It would be the same with Spyro.

He needed it. The Sorceress might be gone, but he still needed that power. Those who sealed him long ago. The reason was unclear. He wondered, once again, why they imprisoned him in the Forbidden Realm. Why were they against the search of the Forbidden Artifacts.

Malefor noticed a small village near the mountain. His stomach grumbled and decided the land. He was hungry and he would need all his strength to reach the summit. He needed all his strength for a battle. He would need all of his magic to use his Forbidden Artifact against the princess of this realm, "Is it princess? She is the sister of the king," he wondered. He had no idea how royalty worked with the humans. He didn't care for that.

He landed near the village. He saw a few humans turned their heads towards him. A few children ran towards him.

"Look! A really big guy!" one of the children said.

"He can fly!"

The older said, "It's a dragon."

Malefor nervously scratched the back of his head as the younglings observed him. They were near him. He let out a small smile, "Easy there," he felt one poked his tail. He took a deep breath and avoided losing his calm. By losing his calm, he thought about not blushing, "I came here to eat at the inn," he raised his hands a little nervously. He still let out a small smile. He looked at the adults, "A little help please?"

"Come here kids," one man said.

The young children went towards him.

The older children took a few more seconds before they went to the adult.

"Thank you. As I said, I came here to eat something and I have some gems to pay you," he told them as he showed a few gems.

"No problem. You are welcome here," a woman replied.

Malefor remained outside, as he was too tall to walk into the inn. He didn't want to break his back and neck just to get his food. The humans didn't mind and brought him everything.

He ate outside as he watched the clean blue sky. Not only that, but the challenge up ahead. He watched the large mountain. Meanwhile, he answered a few questions to the children between bites.

"Are your wings big enough to let you fly?" one of the children asked.

"Yes. Dragons with small wings can fly, even if they are too heavy for it. We also use magic to help us fly," he replied.

The children giggled. It sounded goofy that a big dragon with small wings could fly.

"I can't fly for long if I don't have my magic. I am big and heavy," he hit his chest, "While others are pretty round," he gave a jab at a few chubby dragons. He had a feeling that it might bit his behind in the future, but he had no regret.

"Can you breathe fire?"

"Yes. Won't do it right now. I'm eating. Don't like it when things are turned to dust," Malefor replied. He still released a bit of smoke from his nostrils. He let out a small smile, "Anyway, I'll show you once I'm done and-" he noticed the adults watching him, "Away from anything I can burn."

The dark purple dragon saw that the humans' houses were made of rocks and woods. His kind didn't use anything flammable for the main structure and support of anything they built. No dragon would like to wake up and their home turned to ash because they sneezed or snored in their sleep. A small smile came on his face as he imagined that scenario to the dragons he didn't like. He finished munching the rest of his meal, "Thank you. That was delicious."

"And where are you going?" a woman asked him.

"I'm going to fly at the top of the mountain. I need to find someone," he didn't want to explain why he was there.

"Can you show us now?" one of the children asked.

"Of course," he lightly hopped when one of the kids poked his tail. He sighed and chuckled lightly. He raised his chest and went away from the houses. He raised his head and took a deep breath, "Okay. I'll show it to you."

He breathed fire with everything he could. The large flame raised in the air and made the eyes of the children sparkled. Malefor chuckled as they applause his trick, "I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have to go now. Thank you for your kindness," he then spread his wings and flew towards the mountain, under the eyes of the amazed children.

Red sighed in relief as the young child stopped biting his tail. His stomach grumbled as he got hungry. He didn't want to talk with humans, just in case it might cause trouble with his plan.

The red dragon and Ember searched for a few fruits they could find naturally in the wild. The forest near them was perfect for food.

"Lots of fun!" Ember commented happily. She hopped around as she helped the big dragon.

"Yes. Don't get too excited, or you'll get tired," Red chuckled as he grabbed a few apples from a tree. He wondered how it wasn't part of an apple field. He guessed that those were apples that naturally grew. Still, it was free food.

He offered two to the young dragon as he took four for himself.

The two ate together.

"Love apples," the pink dragon commented.

"Me too," Red replied as he munched his red apple.

"Talk after eating. Not talk with full mouth," she told him.

"I lived alone for a long time Ember. Manners is the least of my priority," he pocked her tail with his own.

The little female dragon giggled as she finished her apples, "But I here now."

"Yes," Red agreed with a bit of annoyance. He let out a small smile, "Anyway. Once we are done, we will leave. We need to reach that mountain."

"Will it be cold?" Ember curiously asked.

"Yes. We are dragons and we can keep ourselves warm. We have fire in our belly."

"You have a lot of fire," she agreed.

The red dragon had a feeling she called him fat in some way. It was too innocent to anger him. Still, he nodded negatively, "I don't have that much fire in my belly."

"Dad Argus has more. More fire in tummy," she added.

Red knew she definitely called him far. He sighed quietly and pat her head. He let out a bit of a twister smile, "Yeah. He has a lot of fire in his tummy. You don't have that much."

"Yeah," she sadly replied, "But you are warm."

"Didn't thought you would come with me on this adventure…" he scratched his chin. It wasn't that urgent that he reached it, "If you find it gets too cold, we will turn back and get something to warm you up."

"Okay," she replied.

Once they were done, the red dragon grabbed her and flew in the air, approaching the mountain.

Meanwhile, Spyro felt like he was dying on the inside. He listened to the ministry of money (Economy), and was bored out of his mind. Sparx was asleep on his head while Cosmos listened very closely with interest.

The king of the humans appeared to be ready to follow the dragonfly in the matter. He tapped his fingers on the table and his eyes were barely open.

The leader of the Magic Crafters was well aware of those two attitudes, but made no comment. He knew the older human gave an explanation that was too long for everyone to keep their attention. At the same time, he asked a few questions that just prolonged everything.

Eventually, the man concluded, "To put it simply. It is a treaty where we can exchange resources for the benefits of both realms. It is also with the other ones where we had that treaty already in places. Any realms can stop supplying anything if it makes them uncomfortable or the situations between the realm changes."

Spyro held back two things. One, he wanted to say 'Finally' and also, 'You could explain everything with just those few words from the start!' He wondered if this human loved to hear his own voice.

Cosmos scratched his chin. He saw that the treaty had nothing foul in it. It was all for the benefit of both realms, "I see no problem with the treaty Spyro. See anything wrong?"

"No. And-"

Someone came in, "Sorry for the interruption my king, but we have a situation."

Mike came back to life and quickly stood up, "What is going on?"

"We have a dragon climbing the mountain to find your sister and another one sighed going at the same location."

"My sister can handle them," the king replied with a confident smile.

Spyro and Cosmos gazed at each other's. They knew who those two dragons were.
