Chapter 9

'Peas in a Pod'

Rachel was laying in bed, her mind flooded with flashbacks of the night they ended up conceiving their baby. She remembered it so clearly as if it was yesterday.

The way he made her feel.

The way his moans mixed with hers created the most perfect sound.

The way his skillful hands touched her tingling body.

She couldn't help but get lost in the memory of their wonderful night.

The night that made their whole world change, for the better.

Tonight was their weekly date night. Every Friday or Saturday, Ross and Rachel made it so they would go on a date... whether that be somewhere nice for dinner, a movie, or just a stroll in the park.

Tonight, they decided on dinner and a movie, and they've just got back from the movie theatre. Rachel let Ross pick the movie, since she picked it a few weeks back, and of course, the movie was one with subtitles and one she barely understood, but she didn't care. She didn't care what they were watching, because her mind was focused on Ross and how in love they were. She kept thinking that she couldn't wait until they were back at his place, so they can finally indulge in a certain physical activity they know all too well.

As they hung their coats up, Rachel stood behind Ross, her arms encircling his waist, her sneaky fingers already making themselves at home on his belt buckle.

"Already huh? We've only just walked through the door." He laughed as he placed his hands on top of hers that still reside on his belt buckle.

"I've been waiting all night for this. Don't keep me waiting, Geller." Rachel said, her lips kissing his shoulder blades over his dress shirt.

"Yes ma'am." Ross smiled - amused, turning around to face her, bending forward slightly so their foreheads touch.

With a seductive smile, Rachel took his hand in hers and led him toward his bedroom. A wicked smile plastered all over her face, showing so much intent as she can't wait to have her way with him tonight.

Rachel always enjoyed being submissive, but on occasions, she also enjoyed the thrill of being dominant... and tonight, she was just that.

Dominant.

Her deep-blue ocean eyes locked with his dark brown chocolate ones as she pushed him back onto the bed after ridding him of his shirt and trousers. All Ross was wearing now was his boxers, which were clearly considerably tighter by now, and that didn't go unnoticed by Rachel.

"So… I guess you are ready for me" Rachel commented, her eyes fleeting to his groin area where she could see him beginning to pulsate under the fabric of his boxers.

"I'm always ready for you, Rach. But please, for the love of god, get over here!"

Ross was just as eager as she was, watching her toss her clothes somewhere on the floor as she released him from his fabric trap and climbed on top of him, straddling his hips.

It was now when she finally leaned forward, pressing her lips against his as she slowly began to grind her hips against Ross, teasing him slightly by not sliding him inside just yet.

As their kiss heated up - tongues caressing tongues, Rachel reached her hand between their bodies and began to stroke his now firmly hardened shaft, rubbing her thumb over his weeping tip.

"How are you so good at that?" Ross panted, already breathless from the incredible pleasure she was causing him.

"You make me good…" She replied, before lifting her hips and slowly guiding him inside.

"Mmhmm..." Soft moans escaped her mouth as she settled herself on top, her hands on his chest - supporting her.

"Come here" Ross whispered as he placed his hands on her back, pulling her onto his chest.

Chest against breasts.

Once Ross was happy that she was as close as she possibly could be to him, he moved his hands and rested them on her butt, giving it a squeeze as she began her movements.

Heavy breaths were hitting Ross' neck as Rachel began to pant, Ross' length hitting so deep inside her.

"Oh fuck, Ross!" Rachel moaned, getting louder and louder as Ross lifted his hips to meet her movements.

With a grip around her waist, Ross flipped them over so Rachel was laying on the bed, guiding himself back inside after he slipped out due to his sudden change of position.

It was only moments later, when they both fell spectacularly over the edge, more or less in sync with one another.

As they lay on the bed - heavy breaths filling the room, they shared a loving glance and a sweet, tender kiss before Ross got up and made his way to the bathroom.

Rachel flashed her boyfriend a warm smile as he helped her change into the hospital gown, couldn't help but notice how his hands were shaking a bit as he tied the gown tightly around her back.

Her heart melted.

This pregnancy might be her first, but it would be the second time for Ross. She thought he wouldn't be as nervous as she was right now, but it turned out even though it was his second, it didn't mean he wasn't as nervous or thrilled as the first time. Rationally, she knew they'd probably have nothing to worry about. She was a young woman with a clean bill of health, no history of miscarriage, or any other health problems that could endanger their unborn child, but as she sat there at the waiting room – looking at other expectant mothers, she suddenly feeling nervous.

"Relax… It'd be alright." She heard him whisper as he kissed her cheeks.

"You're the one to say." Rachel poked his stomach playfully, smiling. "I saw how your hands were literally shaking just now."

"It's from the excitement." Ross smiled back, stealing another kiss to her nose as he helped her to sit at the examination table. He then sat beside her at the small stool, rubbing her hand in soothing motions. "I can't wait to meet our daughter."

"-or son." Rachel raised her eyebrow, amused at how Ross wouldn't seem to stop referring to their unborn child as a little girl. "You know, you have to stop calling him a she, what if we have a boy?"

"I'd love him the same." Ross assured her. "You have nothing to worry about, Rach. I'll love all my children the same. Truthfully, I don't even care what we're having as long as you and the baby are healthy, that's all I'm asking for."

He leaned in to place another kiss, this time to her lips, making Rachel's lips curved into a smile.

The sound of the door opened interrupted their moment and Ross quickly backed away to greet the doctor.

"Well, I'm sorry for the wait up." The doctor came in, a smile on her face as she greeted the couple.

"It's not a problem, Dr. Long." Rachel smiled politely. "-and this is Ross Geller, my boyfriend and the baby's father."

After greeting Ross, Dr. Long started by asking some basic information about Rachel and her pregnancy and after she had everything she needed, she began the examination.

"Let's get started, shall we?" Dr. Long flashed them another smile before she began to put her glove on and started the procedure. "It's going to be a little bit cold."

Rachel let out a gasp as Dr. Long applied cold gel into her stomach and Ross quickly reached up to squeeze her hand. Not long after, blurry images began to show on the monitor. Ross and Rachel's eyes quickly followed the doctor's as she looked at the screen attentively, waiting for the first image of their baby to show up.

"-and that's the... Oh." Dr. Long suddenly let out a big smile, confusing both Ross and Rachel.

"What is it?" Ross asked, sounding a little panicked. "Is everything alright with the baby?"

"Everything is alright." Dr. Long assured the couple and they finally breathed in relief. "Now if you look at these small sacs that look like little peanuts…" The doctor pointed at a certain area on the monitor and suddenly Ross let out a gasp.

"What is it?" Rachel asked, her voice dripped with panic as she noticed his eyes were wet from tears. "What's wrong with my baby?" She asked rather desperately, not knowing a bit how to read an ultrasound image or where exactly her baby was. "Ross?"

"Oh, sweetie." Ross' choked up, quickly leaning in to brush his lips against her temples. "We're having babies, not just one."

"What?!" Rachel's eyes widened. "Is it true, Dr. Long?" She then looked at the doctor expectantly, wanting the confirmation.

"Yes." The doctor smiled. "You're having twins, congratulations."

"Oh." Rachel gasped, tears streaming down to her eyes at the sudden revelations. "We're having twins." She then murmured, looking at her boyfriend's eyes and quickly noticed how emotional he was right now.

"We're having twins." Ross murmured, bringing her hands to his lips and kissed them.

"But everything okay, right, Dr. Long?" Rachel asked. "The babies are both okay?"

"They're both doing perfectly fine, just what I expected them to be at this stage of pregnancy." The doctor answered. "From the size of the embryos, it looks like you're seven weeks along. It's a little early to hear the heartbeats, but we'll schedule it for our next appointment. Multiple pregnancy can be difficult for some women, but so far, with Ms. Green's history, we have nothing to worry about. Everything is right on track and the babies should be here around March 28th, 2002. Now, I'm going to print this out for you and also give you some prescriptions for the prenatal vitamins. Do you have any other questions?"

Ross asked a few questions to the doctor instead when he noticed Rachel was still too shocked to answer the doctor properly. They talked for a bit and the doctor left them so that Rachel could change back into her clothes. Ross helped her change and Rachel stayed quiet the whole time, still processing the news in her head.

It wasn't until they sat at their apartment that she finally spoke up.

"We're having twins." She murmured quietly, as if she had finally processed the information in her head.

"Yes, we do." Ross reached out to squeeze her knee, watching her carefully and noticed how pale she was. "Hey, talk to me. Are you alright? Do you need me to get you some water?"

"Twins." She murmured again, her eyes wide. "That's two babies."

"Yeah, I know that's a lot to process right now. But hey, at least we're not having triplets. Can't you imagine how chaotic it'd be?" Ross laughed, trying to lighten up the mood, but instead, Rachel was glaring at him – not even slightly amused by his joke.

"Ugh! I can't believe you're laughing right now!" Rachel abruptly stood up and began to pace along the length of the living room. "We're having two babies, Ross! That's one too many!" She began to ramble whilst Ross just sat there, knowing that she needed to let this out of her system. "I mean, I'm not even sure that I can take care of one baby, but now I'm going to take care of two babies instead of one. How the hell am I going to do that!" She suddenly stopped, looking at Ross with tears in her eyes and when she spoke again, her voice was little and dripped with fear. "Ross..." She whimpered. "I don't think I can do this. I don't think I can be a good mom for our babies."

Ross' heart sank as he finally realized how terrified she was. Quickly, he stood up and pulled her into an embrace, kissing her cheeks whilst his hand moved along soothingly against her back. He felt how her body instantly melted into his and shook as she finally sobbed freely. Ross held her the whole time until finally she calmed down enough and then he led her to sit on the couch whilst he kneeled in front of her, taking her hands in his and looking at her eyes.

"Listen to me, first of all, you're not going to do this alone. We are going to do this together. Understand?" He brushed his thumbs against her cheeks, feeling relief when she nodded at him. "Secondly, I'm just terrified as you are right now. Sure, I have Ben and it shouldn't be as scary as it was the first time around, but I was more scared now than ever. With Ben, I don't get the privilege to spend the very first few weeks of his life with me. It wasn't only when he was old enough that Carol let me take him with me for a night, but this baby…" He moved his right hand and placed it on her stomach, smiling as he did so. "- this baby is going to live with us from the very first day and it scared the hell out of me. But I also believe that there's no parents in this world who are fully ready to be one right from the very beginning, you just have to learn along the way. Even up till today, I still have to learn a lot as a parent for Ben and sometimes, I screwed up. But you know what? That doesn't mean I'm a bad parent, it just makes me a human. What I'm trying to say is, we have another eight months before the twins are born and I don't want you to spend the whole time worrying whether or not you're going to screw up, because no one gets it the first time. Everyone is bound to screw up at some point, we just have to learn from it and make sure it doesn't actually screw up our kids. And for what it's worth, you already are a great mom for the twins, Rach. I couldn't have asked for a better mother for my children."

"Thank you." She sighed, smiling as she leaned in to kiss him on the lips. "I don't know what I'll do without you."

"You'll do just fine without me, but I'm glad you didn't have to."

"I'm glad I didn't have to either."

The night after Ross and Rachel had their first ultrasound, they made their way to Monica and Chandler's apartment to eat dinner with the whole gang and also tell the group about their little surprise.

Rachel had calmed down a lot since Ross assured her that they'd be doing alright despite their slight change of plan. They had stayed in each other's embraces for the longest moment before her stomach finally grumbled and she smiled sheepishly at him, admitting that she wanted a turkey sandwich from the deli across the street for lunch. Ross just shook his head amusedly, kissed her, and left to grab her lunch order. They had eaten their lunch together in front of the TV and she even managed to take a nap as Ross cleaned up the house.

Not a minute later, Ross and Rachel finally arrived at their friends' apartment and as soon as they stepped into the room, Monica and Phoebe quickly bombarded them with questions after questions about the baby. Rachel filled everyone in with the information about their first doctor appointment. At some point, Rachel even handed them a copy of the sonogram picture, noticing how none of the friends questioned why instead of one, there were two sacs inside of her uterus.

"Okay, I swear I'm not stupid and I've seen Carol's sonogram before, but what is it that I'm looking at?" Monica finally asked after scrutinizing the picture in her hand for minutes.

Ross and Rachel shared a knowing look and with their hands intertwined around each other, they finally told the gang about their big news.

"Well…" Rachel scooted over, pointing her fingers towards the two embryos in the picture. "You see these spots in the shape of peanuts. These are our babies."

"Aw…" Monica smiled, still not registering what Rachel was basically just saying. "I can't believe I'm going to have another niece/nephew again. Wait!" She suddenly gasped. "Did you just say babies?"

"What?!" Chandler gasped. "You're having twins?"

"Oh, twins, just like me and Ursula!" Phoebe exclaimed ecstatically.

"Twins?!" Joey gasped. "As in two babies?"

Ross and Rachel looked at each other briefly before they finally cracked huge smiles.

"Yes, we are!" Rachel giggled. "We're having twins!"

The group began to offer the happy couple a hug and round of congratulations. In less than a year, there would be two more members that'd joined the group and they couldn't be happier for their friends.

Monica and Chandler decided to throw a Halloween party at their place. The gang usually spent their Halloween night at some random clubs, but this year Monica decided to throw a party for themselves. She invited some of their neighbors, people who work at Central Perk, including Gunther, and Mona also came as Joey's date. Joey has been dating Mona for almost a month now, and to everyone's surprise he didn't even cheat on her. Maybe Joey finally found the one.

Rachel came in with a gorgeous black off shoulder dress and Monica immediately frowned at the sight of it. Monica clearly said they were having a costume party, so she expected Rachel to actually wear a costume instead of a fancy dress.

"What are you wearing? I thought I told you that this is a costume party." Monica, who wore a cat woman's outfit tonight, confronted Rachel.

"This is my costume. I'm a pregnant woman who just bought a gorgeous dress that will soon be too small for her to wear." Rachel explained innocently, knowing how happy Monica is for her pregnancy, she knew she would let her.

"Alright, fine. But, as soon as you outgrew that dress, I'm gonna need to borrow it." She winked and Rachel nodded happily since she knew she probably never going to use this dress again for another seven months and it will be out of season by the time she can wear it again.

"Mon, is Ross here yet?"

"Uh, nope. I haven't seen him. Do you know what costume he's gonna wear?"

"It's something about a Russian space thingy. A satellite or something." Rachel shrugged. "You know your brother, no matter how much I love him, I never understood his nerdy side."

"Oh, believe me. I never thought that he was actually capable of getting a girlfriend with that nerdy brain of his."

"That my friend, because he's really good at the thing." Rachel winked, then laughed when Monica grimaced.

"Eww, gross! I don't need to know that!"

Just then Ross came in his potato shaped costume with a helmet on top of his head. Rachel and Monica both chuckled at the sight of him.

"I thought you said he'd be dressed as a Russian space thingy." Monica said to Rachel, Rachel shrugged, and Ross rolled his eyes in annoyance.

"I'm a potato? Or... A spud.. And the thing in my head is an antenna." He explained, giving clues for them to guess and hoping they would actually get it. But sadly, both Rachel and Monica seemed to be more puzzled than ever. Rachel even squinted her eyes and thought about it seriously.

"A spud-nik?" Ross finally said the answer, but both the women still left clueless.

What the hell is sputnik or spudnik? Rachel thought.

"You guys still don't get it, do you?" Ross asked and Rachel and Monica nodded.

"Ugh, I gave up. I'm a sputnik, it's a Russian satellite."

"I'm sorry, sweetie. I'm sure everyone but Monica and I will get it immediately." Rachel then gave him a hug, even though she was struggling with it since his costume took a lot of space.

Just then, Chandler joined the group, wearing a bright pink rabbit costume completed with the bunny's nose and teeth. Rachel and Ross immediately giggled as they saw him.

"Monica!" Chandler whined, feeling mortified. "Do I have to wear this?!"

"You made him wear that?" Rachel bit her the inside of her mouth to prevent her from laughing out loud.

"Well, yeah? I know how much Chandler loves velveteen rabbits, so I bought him a rabbit costume."

"Velveteen rabbit is white and brown!"

"It's either this one or no bunny at all.".

"No bunny at all! Always no bunny at all!"

"Nice costume, man." Ross teased him then laughed hard.

"Oh yeah, says the poop man." Chandler shot back.

"Hey! It's not a poop, it's a Russian satellite..." Ross trailed off, stopped explaining when Chandler made a 'I don't give a shit' face on him. "-never mind."

Rachel rubbed Ross' arms softly and said, "It's okay. He doesn't know what he's talking about."

"You're only saying that because you're dating him now." Chandler made a point.

"Well, at least I tried to become a supportive girlfriend and all that." Rachel shrugged.

Ross smiled faintly, he was upset about the fact that no one understands his costume but slightly feeling a little bit better knowing Rachel will support him no matter what.

Not long after, Phoebe joined them with her Supergirl costume and then a few minutes later Joey who claimed to be dressed as Chandler and Mona who dressed as a nurse came in. Mona greeted them all, but stopped at Ross. She was unsure what he dressed as, so she decided to ask.

"What are you dressed as?"

"See, I'm a potato or one might say a spud and this is my antenna. So, I am a?" He explained, then asked her as he pointed at his helmet or an antenna or whatever was that.

Mona took a few seconds to guess it and then she found the answer, "A spudnik!" She yelled triumphantly.

"Yes! Finally!" Ross exclaimed thankfully.

"Oh god. Are you sure you're dating the right guy?" Chandler asked Mona.

"What do you mean?" Mona frowned, visibly confused.

"I mean, it's like you and Ross are supposed to be a couple or something." Chandler blurted out, earning a glare from Rachel.

Mona, Ross, and Joey were all becoming very uncomfortable with Chandler's remarks.

"Aw! Aw! Aaawww! What's that for?" Chandler yelped when Rachel pinched his arm.

"That's for telling my boyfriend to date another woman!" Rachel replied angrily and then sat on the couch, sulking.

Ross gave him a dirty look and he rushed to follow Rachel.

"Way to go, man." Joey said sarcastically.

"Oh, come on! No one guessed it right, except Mona! They clearly have similar interests!" Chandler tried to reason.

"So, what do you mean? People can only date other people with the same interests as theirs?" Joey asked.

"Uh huh. Like you and Monica?" Phoebe basically pointed at the fact that Chandler and Monica had nothing in common but somehow, they were married.

"Okay, I got your point. I'm sorry Joe, and uh.. Mona." Chandler said.

"You said that once more, and I will force you to wear this rabbit outfit for a week." Monica threatened her husband.

"You can't be serious." Chandler complained.

"Oh, try me mister!"

Back in the living room, Rachel was sulking about the whole situation earlier.

"Hey.. look at me. Why are you so upset about this?" Ross asked.

"I don't know. Maybe Chandler was right, I mean she understands you better and I don't..." Rachel trailed off. "I mean I'm not that smart and all."

"You're kidding, right?"

"No. I'm dead serious. You know how much I love you right?" She asked and he nodded. "-but sometimes when you talk about science stuff, I don't understand anything about that." She confessed.

True, Ross talked about science stuff all the time with her. He loved to share his passion with his girlfriend and friends, but he knew that sometimes its bored Rachel and he actually didn't have a problem with that. He understood that they both had different interests and that was what made them a great couple. They complimented each other in one way and another.

"You were upset about that?" Ross asked and she nodded, slightly embarrassed.

"Well, If I'm interested in some girl with a big brain, I will date my teacher instead." He tried to joke but she didn't laugh at it.

"Your point?" She shot him a look.

He then took her hands into his and gently stroked it.

"My point is, I love you in spite of our differences. I know I often bore you with all my science talk, but I really love to share my passion and interests with the one I love, and in this case it's you I wanted to share everything with."

"Well, if you put it that way, I will gladly listen to your boring science talk." Rachel smiled sheepishly. "-but that also means, you will have to listen to me blabbering about fashion stuff too."

"It will be my pleasure." He smiled and then gave her a kiss.

"Okay now, I'll ask Monica if I can give away candies this year. Since I'm pregnant, I think my motherly instinct is kicking in and I want to be around children all the time." Rachel said as she got up from the couch.

Ross was beaming proudly at her. Rachel Green, who was once a spoiled daddy's little girl, was going to be a mother of his child. He couldn't be any happier.

"Can I come with you?" He asked as he also got up from the couch.

"Sure." She smiled at him and took his hand into her as they walked toward Monica.

Rachel and Ross ended up giving away candies for the entire night. Rachel almost gave away their entire candy for one girl dressed in a ballerina dress after the girl hugged her and told her that she loves Rachel, but luckily Ross managed to stop her. For the entire night, Ross couldn't help but staring and smiling at the sight of Rachel who was really happy giving away candies to children. Rachel once told him that she wasn't exactly great with children, but today proved him otherwise. He always knew that she would be a great mother one day and he was beyond glad that she would be the mother of his child.
