Angela took in the scene before her. Her daughter and Maura were naked and entwined, the covers half off of them, an empty bottle of Tequila and two dirty shot glasses and...the strangest looking sex toy she had ever seen and a bottle of clear liquid. Both women had their mouths open, a soft snore escaping both of them.

Angela was unsure what she should do, so she did something she had never done before: she backed out of the apartment as quietly as possible, shut the door and headed out of the building. She got to her car and thought about what she had just seen and what she was going to do, if anything, about it.

"Virgin Mary and all the saints. Oh Janie." She decided to go to the church and try to find a priest or nun.

Jane Rizzoli awoke to the sounds of Maura retching in the bathroom. Sitting up, she grabbed her head and cursed the decision to drink Tequila. Finally vertical, she made her way to the bathroom, where she found Maura on the floor, head resting against the bowl.

"Maura?"

A feeble voice answered, "Yes?"

Jane knelt beside her and held her hair back as she started throwing up again. She wet a washcloth and gently wiped Maura's face. She realized the blond was crying. She wiped at Maura's eyes and took the blonde's face in her hands.

"Hey, what is it?" Maura shook her head. "Maura, come on. Tell me." When the blonde didn't say anything, Jane jumped to the conclusion Maura was embarrassed about being hung-over and naked on her bathroom floor. "Maura it's ok. We've all been drunk and hung-over."

Maura looked up at her, mascara smeared on her tear stained face. "I haven't."

"Ever?"

"No."

Realizing something more was going on, she sat down next to Maura and put her arm around the blonde. Pulling her closer, she felt Maura's head fall onto her shoulder. They sat quietly for a few minutes

"Why was yesterday so bad?"

Maura sighed. "I don't like change. I like my home, I like this new place I found, and I don't care for my father."

Confused, Jane said, "Ok."

Maura sat up and tried to explain. "Jane, I have never had any real roots. Never felt like I belonged or had a family. With you and your family, I feel...at home." She looked up at Jane. "I can find a new place to live, a home, but that will require interaction with my parents, specifically my father."

"Did he...abuse you?"

Maura smiled. "No, nothing like that." She gave Jane's hand a squeeze. "And that is all I want to say about that right now."

"How about we get showered and then head over to your place? Veg out today, watching some movies?" Maura nodded and Jane got up to go get Maura's bag. As she passed the front door, she realized the deadbolt was off and stopped long enough to lock it before grabbing the bag.

After a quick shower, they dressed and as they were abut to leave, Jane remembered asking her mother to make canoli's which reminded her she had Grandma Rizzoli's marble rolling pin. She grabbed it out of the fridge and dialed her mother as they climbed into Jane's car.

"Ma? I have the rolling pin for the canoli's. I'll drop it off on my way to Maura's."

St. Francis Catholic Church

"Fr. Bick, I'm not even sure I saw what I saw!"

"Oh?"

"They were obviously drunk. Maybe it just happened in a drunken stupor?"

The priest nodded. "Perhaps." Fr. Bick had known the Rizzoli family for 30 years. And he knew Jane. Angela, it was no experimental thing. Your daughter likes men and women. And there is nothing you can do about it.

"Fr. Bick, what does this mean for Jane's well-being, spiritually?"

"I think it is past time that she found someone to make her happy. If it is with this woman, so be it." He looked at Angela who had tears streaming down her face. "Do you love your daughter?" Angela nodded. "Then there is no issue."

Angela considered what he said and nodded. "Maura is a good person and she is a doctor." Angela considered what all had been discussed. "Do I tell her I know?"

"No. Let her come to you. This is a big event for her."

Angela was about to say something when her phone rang. "It's Janie." She flipped open her phone and answered. "Janie?" She listened as Jane told her about the rolling pin and going to Maura's. She wanted to tell her daughter she knew exactly where Maura was and what they had been doing, but looking over at Fr. Bick, she refrained. "Ok baby."

Jane dropped Maura off at her house, then doubled back to her parents house with the rolling pin. She had her sunglasses on and her hair was in a ponytail. She pulled her cruiser into the driveway and grabbed the rolling pin. She entered the kitchen and hugged her mother, kissing her on the cheek.

"Hey Ma, here's the rolling pin."

"Thank you. Why are you wearing sunglasses in the house?"

Jane shrugged as she took her glasses off. "My eyes are sensitive to light today."

Angela stared at her daughter and couldn't let that go. "Ya father's eyes always get sensitive after a night of heavy drinking."

Jane knew she was busted and sat down at the family table. "Ma, Maura and I got drunk last night and she stayed over at my place."

"Oh? Something happen to make you girls drink?"

Jane shook her head. "No...not...well, it's Maura. She...got some bad news yesterday." Jane waved her hands around.

Angela was hanging on every word, hoping Jane would confide in her. Hoping Jane would tell her they had made a drunken mistake. That she was just curious. Anything. Even if it was that she and Maura were in love and this was who she was. In the end, she got none of that.

"Anyway, she's never been hung-over and I woke up to her retching. I'm gonna keep an eye on her today."

Angela was rolling out the dough, thankful Jane had kept the roller stored in the refrigerator. "So, you and Maura are getting pretty close. That's nice."

Jane smiled as she stood up and hugged her mother. "Yeah, Ma. She's..she's my best friend."

Angela watched her daughter go and thought back over the last few weeks. Jane had seemed happier, had laughed more than she had since she was a kid. She had actually seemed to enjoy coming to Sunday dinner. Of course, that coincided with when she had started bringing Maura, but...

Maura's House

Maura was stretched out on the couch, cold washcloth on her head, a plate of toast and cantaloupe on the coffee table. Jane was in the kitchen making her secret hang-over cure. Jane glanced over at Maura and smiled. She had discovered that taking care of Maura was her favorite new thing. Her job had always given her purpose, but Maura gave her life fulfillment.

Jane brought a glass of the foulest smelling and looking thing Maura had ever seen to her. "Drink this, in one gulp."She handed it to Maura and sat next to her.

Maura hesitated as she contemplated drinking Jane's offering. "What is in that?"

"All the nutrients you lost from drinking and then throwing up."

Maura held her nose and chugged the drink, trying not to gag. Once she had it down, she scowled at Jane. "If the alcohol doesn't kill me, this thing you just forced me to drink just might."

Jane stretched out on the couch and pulled Maura to her. "I'll give you mouth-to-mouth."

"Ha ha." Maura snuggled up to Jane and felt content. "How was your mother?"

Jane was running her hand through Maura's hair. "Good. She knows you stayed at my place last night."

Maura's head came up. "What?"

"Relax. She knows we got drunk and you spent the night. Not anything else."

Maura popped her head back up. "You told her I took a cab to your apartment, right? I don't want her to think I commit criminal acts."

Jane laughed and kissed Maura's temple. "Relax Capone, she doesn't think that."

They watched a couple of movies and then drifted off to sleep. Jane was awakened by the buzzing of her cellphone, and shifted so she could answer.

"Rizzoli...hi Ma. She's better. I fixed my hang-over remedy for her. What? Uh yeah, she's coming for Sunday dinner. What? Yeah, I think I'm going to stay here tonight. Just in case." Jane rolled her eyes. "I love you too, Ma. Bye."

Maura freed herself from Jane and sat up. "Let's go to bed."

Jane stood up and helped Maura up. "I'll be up in a few minutes. I'm going to make sure everything is locked up."

Angela Rizzoli looked at her phone and debated what Jane had said. Jane had, after all, stayed at Maura's after the camping debacle, and she knew Jane had slept in the guest room and she had seen Maura's unmade bed, so...She sat down and decided to make a list of reasons why Maura and Jane were just friends and reasons why they were a couple.

After half an hour of moving things from one side of the list to the other and back again, Angela gave up and decided to find out what that large plastic thing was and what that meant. And then she realized she had no clue how to even look that up. She decided to find a way to ask Frankie. Or maybe...Frank? She decided to think about it tomorrow, and went upstairs to go to bed.

Frank climbed into bed and settled on his side. He was just getting settled when Angela decided to ask him about the sex thing.

"Frank, if a woman wanted a...toy, where would she go to find one?"

"What? A toy? I don't know, Toys 'R Us?"

Angela sighed. "No Frank, a toy for...sexual happiness?"

Frank Rizzoli turned the lamp back on and looked at his wife. "What, I'm not enough for you? You want some plastic dick?"

"Frank, no. My friend at the supermarket just got divorced and we are throwing her a party. We thought it might be fun to give her a gag gift."

Frank calmed down and rubbed his face. "Oh. Ok. Garden of Eden on 8th at Bower. Lotta lesbians shop there."

Angela Rizzoli's eyes went wide. "How do you know that?"

"One of the guys on the crew lost his wife to a lesbian. He followed her there one night. Place is open 24hrs." He beat his pillow. "Good night, Ang."

Angela waited until she heard Frank snore and then got out of bed and got dressed. She eased down the steps and slipped out the door on her way to Garden of Eden. She arrived at the store and decided it wasn't too seedy. She went inside and looked around nervously, wearing an overcoat and sunglasses, even though it was 11pm.

"Can I help you?"

Angela looked around, and seeing that she was the only person in the store, she stepped up as close to the counter as possible and whispered, "I'm looking for a toy."

"Most people who come in here are looking for a toy. Can you be more specific?"

"It looks like a...penis?" She lowered her head even lower and added, "It has two...heads?"

The sales clerk nodded as she blew a bubble with her gum. "Double dildo. Right over here."

Angela was shocked at the selection and mortified as she saw the same one that had been on Jane's coffee table. "Who uses these?"

The clerk's mouth fell open and she looked at Angela like she had a second head. "Uh...lesbians? Two bisexual women?"

"Is this something women who might be experimenting use?" At the clerk's look, she clarified, "Two women who maybe are experimenting with being gay?"

The clerk laughed. "Lady, anything is possible, but personally, I only let somebody I am pretty serious about stick anything like that in me."

"Ok, thank you."

Angela hurried out of the store and sat in her car, crying for an hour. She wasn't sure why she was crying. Jane wasn't dead, Maura was a good person and a doctor. Jane wasn't getting any younger. She wiped her eyes, considered driving over to Maura's and doing what she didn't know. She settled for calling Fr. Bick, apologizing for waking him up, and telling him what she had found out. She listened as he reminded her Jane was a grown woman, sexuality is not learned, but innate and that she was still her mother. And either she loved her daughter or she didn't. And he counseled her to let Jane tell her, in her own time.

Angela wiped her eyes again and started the car, heading home.

Maura's Bedroom

"Thank you for taking care of me, Jane." She kissed her girlfriend. It was chaste and tender, loving, not arousing. She laid her head back on Jane's shoulder.

Jane stroked Maura's head. "Thank you for trusting me to take care of you. I know that's not easy for you."

Maura began playing with a lock of Jane's hair. "It's not, but you make it easier." She looked up at Jane. "I have to find a place to live. Someplace to buy." She licked her lips, trying to figure out the best way to ask her next question. "I would like your opinion on wherever I end up living. In case you ever lived there with me. At some point."

Jane smiled at her and then kissed her. "OK."
